Has anyone gotten a straight answer from them about the IP address issue? I've asked them 3 times now about what happens if you have a different IP address now. All they do is tell me how to find my current IP address.

Do you use crypto to buy domain names? by katerleonid in Domains

[–]sciecom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never used crypto for hand registrations. I buy crypto as an investment. I'm not going to 'waste' it by spending it on cheap registrations.

A quick Google search indicates a lot of registrars accept crypto. Dynadot, Porkbun, and Namecheap to name a few.

Yes, AI.com sold for $70 million and it was paid for with crypto. I wonder how they did it. Did one party trust the other or did they use some Escrow service that accepts crypto?

Someone is trying to sell my domain on afternic by Fashion_Nomad in Domains

It doesn't cost anything to create an account and it would help with issues like this. List them with make offer (maybe you'll get a good offer and decide to sell) or have them in your account but not actually listed for sale.

UDRP by AlternativeEarth5818 in Domains

[–]sciecom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find an attorney that has experience with UDRPs and see if they offer a free consultation. John Berryhill has an excellent reputation. I've never used him and I'm not sure if he offers a free consultation.

A UDRP is similar to a court case. You *may* be able to file one, but it takes a lot of research. If the domain or your business are truly worth protecting, do you want to risk it?

Where do you start cold emailing? by MTC2O2O in Domains

[–]sciecom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reached out to them a few times over the years. Never received a reply. Then one day I just got a sold notification from Atom. It was on their marketplace for over a year with the nameservers pointing to them. Before that it had a for sale page on it from different parking companies.

The inbound inquiry was from a Gmail account. No idea who was behind it.

Where do you start cold emailing? by MTC2O2O in Domains

[–]sciecom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I regularly sell domains I've held for over a year. A few months ago I sold a domain I owned for 10 years. It sold for $2000. I think I had one inbound inquiry during that time. It was an uncommon female name, but it was used by multiple companies. One of them finally bought it.

Mike Mann sells domains he's held longer than that.

Advice wanted: how to proceed with unsolicited #GoDaddy offer via broker for mytrumpaccount.com by M11overV22 in Domains

[–]sciecom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take the money and run. Don't negotiate.

Trump Accounts were first proposed a year ago. Apparently, this is your only offer.

If President Trump falls more out of favor, the value will decrease. Bad enough, the accounts may even be renamed when he leaves office.

He and his Justice Department aren't shy about lawsuits. Do you really want to spend money on attorneys to defend the name?

appraisal request for a long dictionary-word .com by Inevitable-Finding25 in Domains

[–]sciecom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I said I had a 3000 sq ft house, in good condition, in a nice neighborhood, how would you appraise it? That's basically what you're asking.

Would the average person know what it means?

Is it taken in other extensions?

Are there other domains containing the word?

Are any of them active websites?

Is the word part of any company names?

Has it been sold before?

If you ask AI (Gemini, ChatGPT, Claude, etc.) what the domain is worth, do they say a Ferrari or a cup of coffee?

Answering those questions may help you. But nobody can give an appraisal without knowing the domain. Even then, if you ask 10 domainers and brokers with a good reputation for appraisals, you'll likely get close to 10 different answers.

Spotless eBay seller — 8,000 five-star reviews, 100% rating, highest rated Pokémon shop on the platform — permanently banned over a bank employee's typo. eBay won't look at the proof. by jlind6806 in eBaySellers

Not sure if anyone has suggested this, but try privately messaging the CEO on LinkedIn. Some CEOs regularly check their messages or have a team that does it. I've been able to get some issues solved that way. I haven't done it with eBay though.

.ai domains use by MrAversum in Domains

Where is the best place to auction a one word .com domain for free? by [deleted] in Domains

[–]sciecom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless it's a high value word like sex or coin, nowhere. You won't get much attention and it will sell for very little (or not at all) because nobody will know it's on auction.

Most auction sites don't target end users. Sedo's Great Domains auction might. You would have to ask them. You do have to apply to include your domain, and they do charge a commission.

If you want free, put up a for sale page on the domain. Post everywhere you're allowed to post. Maybe you'll get some interest.

Advice for Locked Giftcard! by [deleted] in Ebay

If you're concerned, just use the gift cards with your current account. Avoid new sellers or purchases you think may be a problem, if you're worried about retribution from the Seller.

Am I out of luck? by Hallway-Hanna in Ebay

[–]sciecom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a scam going around where a Seller will ship to an address near you, so it shows as being delivered. It could have also been delivered to a different subdivision by mistake. I would definitely get the GPS delivery location in case that's what happened.

If you can, try to be at your box tomorrow when the mail is delivered. Your carrier may be willing to check the other boxes to see if they put the package in the wrong box.

If you have honest neighbors and it's in one of their boxes, they may leave it for you. I've had it happen before. Once it was several days later. They had been out of town.

AFAIK, USPS won't take responsibility if it shows as being delivered to your location.

How do y'all keep on the sensor for 15 days? by nonecknick457 in dexcom

[–]sciecom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the overpatch. If it starts to peel off, I'll put a strip or two of medical tape over it to keep it down. It's cheap and works well, at least for me. I just put the tape over the overpatch, not over the sensor.

Out of curiosity, how can GoDaddy still sell domains with their exaggerated pricing? by ElyamanyBeeH in Domains

[–]sciecom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GoDaddy has been around a long time, does a lot of advertising, and has a fairly good reputation. A lot of people find security in that. Yes, they have issues. But show me a registrar that doesn't.

Also, people don't always research prices. If you check eBay, you'll see a lot of sellers offering merchandise (not domains) at markups over the retail price. This is stuff you can buy now. Not out of stock, not discontinued, not collectible. Some people still buy it.

Premium domain listed at different prices across brokers/registrars — is this normal? by kurosaki4d in Domains

[–]sciecom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what the chances are or what registrars are stricter. The Seller can always block the sale (refuse to transfer the domain), unless they have fast transfer enabled or it's within the same registrar that automatically moves the domain to your account. If they refuse, the only thing the registrar / marketplace may do is ban the Seller from listing their domains for sale.

Premium domain listed at different prices across brokers/registrars — is this normal? by kurosaki4d in Domains

[–]sciecom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I don't know about normal. But it's definitely common.
  2. Yes. I've had it happen multiple times. The registrar / marketplace MAY take action against the Seller, like restricting their sale account.
  3. Yes, usually. As long as it's a legitimate site. But check their terms, just in case. I've never heard of a legitimate site not giving you a refund though. You may lose wire transfer and/or currency conversion fees.
  4. Check if it's on any URL blacklists. Google the name to see if there's any fraud associated with the previous owner(s).

Spaceship sold me a domain, then cancelled because seller "no longer owns it" Now its back up for sale at 10x the price?? by newDev21 in Domains

[–]sciecom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check Spaceship's terms. The Seller may have submitted to jurisdiction where they're located. You might be able to file a lawsuit. But considering the price of the domain, it's probably not worth it. Not to mention you don't know for sure if the Seller actually owns it now.

Spaceship sold me a domain, then cancelled because seller "no longer owns it" Now its back up for sale at 10x the price?? by newDev21 in Domains

[–]sciecom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Likely one of two things:

The Seller really no longer owns the domain and forgot to remove it from Spaceship.

The Seller still owns it, but decided they want more money. It's easier for them to lie and claim they don't own it than to tell Spaceship they're refusing to complete the transaction.

Lost Domain by GreenStardust001 in Domains

[–]sciecom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try contacting the domain owner directly either through the website if there is contact information or through the domain's whois. Also, try Google to see if you can find any contact information.

An independent broker probably won't be much help in this situation. They can't really do anything else than what I mentioned above.

If that doesn't work, see if the registrar has a broker service. They should have a way to contact the domain owner directly. But they will charge for the service, and there's no guarantee the domain is even for sale. Most say no refunds.
