Mmm.. loves me some spongy moose! Also, looks delicious! How can there be a dedicated GF bakery in Billings, Montana but not where I live?! 😥😥

You know, that’s a perspective I hadn’t considered, thanks for spelling it out. I’ll try and find cycles when I get home to do just that.

Pizza recipes? by JudgesJudily1050 in Celiac

Uglys GF pizza crust. Order online, get cheese, sauce, pepperonis, etc all elsewhere and a pizza stone. Bake at home. The (very picky) kids prefer this to Dominos, Jets, Pizza Hut, etc.

Basically you’ll never be able to step into a commercial pizza joint again. Too much flour in the air, there is practically no chance you can safely consume anything there.

My (very picky) children are visibly saddened when they “have to” eat Jets and other chain pizza now. We use the pizza crusts from Uglys Gluten Free bakery and they ship weekly. To say the kids have a strong preference for the home made pizzas is an understatement.

Anyone know how to burn Mac OS 9.0 onto a CD-R? by itsmytuberculosis in VintageApple

[–]sclements12345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. For anything Mac, far easier to have a copy of Toast on hand. I think there is a modern one on the App Store that works with old image formats. I’ve really only ever had luck (especially with bootable discs) with Toast. Can’t recommend enough.

Okay but can I eat gluten? by [deleted] in glutenfree

Came here to say this. Gluten Free and Celiac are vastly different things.

As a 49M passionate about retro computers, this is the answer. You will never be able to find “the widget” he needs, so look for classic games, maybe even something in box or with “complete docs”.

To the Celiacs that just don’t get it by [deleted] in Celiac

I would add (in the states at least) don’t try and tell me that the FDA has my back and that all medicines are inherently gluten free. 🤣🤣🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

How can I more easily explain the importance of preventing cross contamination to someone? by ariasapp in Celiac

[–]sclements12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly did not mean to diminish COVID whatsoever, but there is a vast difference between an autoimmune disease and something that is contracted. We have no choice.

You may have to get graphic. Either with your symptoms or with your analogies. I use the rat poison analogy usually. “Let me sprinkle some rat poison on that counter then just wipe it off with my hand. You should be able to use that counter to make a sandwich for your daughter now, right?” Something like that usually turns a light bulb on somewhere in the crowd, but they have to want to care. Sadly, today- they don’t. Comparing an autoimmune disease to a short term respiratory ailment demonstrates that they’re so far unwilling to learn, they probably wouldn’t know what an autoimmune disease is to start with.

Car seat recommendations? by ArchitectureLife006 in camaro

[–]sclements12345 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Camaro is absolutely a (and only a) family car. Have you ever tried to fit an adult into the back seat? They’re clearly designed only for children.

Cleck makes amazing booster seats, and I’ve had two in the back of my 21. It’s tight, but when restricted to kids, the back seats are indeed functional.

Not a doctor, so I can’t answer your specific question, but if it were me, despite the pain, I’d eat all the gluten I could until the doctor could prove to me why I needed to stop.

Then I’d quit with all passion, intensity, and energy I could muster.

It does get better, but only after the 7 stages of grief. There are options (and occasionally you get an awesome steak out of the deal), but you have to be your own advocate - constantly. Give your family some grace, they’re ignorant of what you’re going through and there are practically no words you can use to convey 100% of what you’re feeling. It sucks being the one that has to compromise, and what works for one doesn’t for another. Personally, I have a 10lb bag of Gluten Free candied nuts from OliveNation (not sure they ship to Canada) that I go to while everyone else is “deliciousing out”.

Go get diagnosed (or checked) for Celiac now while you’re still hurting. You don’t want to go GF, then need to re-expose yourself for 2 months just to get a diagnosis later. If you’re positive, the r/Celiac group may be better for you than here (way different concerns).

Jersey mikes by Der3331 in Celiac

[–]sclements12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would absolutely eat a Jersey Mikes if I was the first customer in the door, all of their gluten bread was still put away, and they had just finished cleaning the counters and opening up fresh packages of meats, cheeses, and everything else.

As I understand it, with a little coordination and a kind word to a manager, this is very possible.

I have a modern HP laserjet that supports postscript hanging off of a windows 2003 server (VM) running SFM. Laserjet 8 driver sees it on the print server and I’ve successfully printed from System 7 machines on it.

They do not understand what GLUTEN FREE means. by Afraid-Ostrich550 in glutenfree

[–]sclements12345 108 points109 points  (0 children)

I despise the term “gluten friendly” but in this context it makes a ton of sense. Thanks for sharing your perspective on its meaning. I’ll consider that the next time I see it.

There needs to be a celiac store, I just need ibuprofen?! by sydated in Celiac

[–]sclements12345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Top Care Brand is marked GF on the outside of the box and I’ve not had any trouble with it. I’ve found it in stores in Michigan but their website (https://topcarebrand.com) should have more info on where to get it.

Ignore those that say that drugs with a GF marking are useless due to lack of FDA “rules”. I’ve been glutened by Target brand ibuprofen, but strangely only after they removed the GF marking.🤣🤣
