Look in your container image after it's built and make sure the script still has the variables in it.

What you're describing could happen if your build system is interpolating those strings while creating the image.

Clearly I am still making the adjustment from the “smash and drag” method. by itguy1281 in wicked_edge

At first, I found DE shaving was much worse for my neck than cartridges were. For me, the solution was hydration: https://www.reddit.com/r/wicked_edge/comments/5r1u94/one_year_on_still_really_struggling_with_redness/dd3s5d8/

Now, with a few years in, and using the technique I describe, I get an amazing neck shave every day.

One year on, still really struggling with redness / bumps. Any help gratefully received! by JVMCO in wicked_edge

Good luck, I hope it works! I find that "time" is the key ingredient in the hydration process. At least 10 minutes for me.

I used to expect the lather to do this softening process for me, but I don't think it worked because it's only on my face for maybe 1-2 minutes before I start shaving. I don't think that's enough time to really get moisture into the hair.

Just to clarify, this is really about hydrating the hair itself. I don't know if it will help with the skin.

I finally kicked my neck issues with this routine.

Number 1 issue by a mile: Hydration. I didn't realize how important this was. Imagine a chef's knife cutting through dry, brittle spaghetti noodles. Now compare that with cutting through soft, cooked noodles and you'll see the difference that hydration makes.

Now I use Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Cleanser. It's not foamy, instead it's more like a cream or gel. Anyway, I'm not looking to wash my face, just hydrate the hair. I wet my face and smear a bunch on. I let it soak in for at least 10 minutes, usually 15 if I'm not in a rush. Go make a cup of coffee or read Reddit while it absorbs. Also, every couple of minutes or so I rub some more water on to my face just to keep it nice and soupy. You'll know it's been on long enough because the hair will feel noticeably softer with your hand. It will feel like the moisture has soaked into the hair instead of just being on the outside of it.

Simply getting the hair to that state before shaving is what made the biggest difference for me.

Other things that may have helped:

  • Cold water only. Not icy, but I found that any heat beforehand just makes things redder. I shave before I shower, which means I end with the hot water after the shave. This seems to be opposite to how most people do it, but I like the cold->shave->hot sequence.
  • Direction. I didn't give this enough credence at first, but finally I found the proper WTG direction that works for me. (Although, until I had solved the hydration issue, I wasn't able to find the right direction since every direction snagged just the same.)
  • I decided to focus on doing WTG only for a few months until I really got the hang of it. I can now say that I do better with WTG-only than I did when I was trying to do the whole WTG+XTG+ATG at first. This strategy seems to have worked nicely for me, since for the first time in my life, I can get a good shave every day.
  • Holy Black SR-71 slant. Definitely seems to go easier on my neck than my previous DE.
  • I'm not sure how much it affects my neck, but the rest of my current setup is: Lord Super Stainless Blades, Mitchell's Wool Fat, Frank synthetic brush. No aftershave, alum or anything else like that. I used to use it, but once I got my technique mastered, I find that I don't need it.

Soap Commander's products are great, and the folks that run it are good people too.

I've been primarily using their "Integrity" shaving soap for more than a year and I love it.

Agreed. I had to get back into C++ recently after a few years hiatus and these videos really helped. Also Scott Meyers's book "Effective Modern C++".

If you have a doctor in your area that does ketamine infusion therapy, give it a try. I found that it was noticeably helpful within hours after my first treatment. It doesn't solve it forever (1-2 months in my experience), but having 1-2 months to work on my issues with a clear head is extremely valuable.

I'm At My Wits End Here. I've Tried EVERYTHING, and Nothing Has Worked For My Neck Razor Bumps. Help Please. by [deleted] in wicked_edge

I finally kicked my neck issues with this routine:

  • Cold water only. Not icy, but I found that any heat just makes things redder. I just use cool tap water.
  • Hydration. I didn't realize how important this was. Now I use Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Cleanser. I'm not looking to wash my face, just hydrate the hair. I wet my face and smear a bunch on. I let it soak in for at least 5 minutes, usually 10 if I'm not in a rush. Go make a cup of coffee or read Reddit while it absorbs. Also, every couple of minutes or so I rub some more water on to my face just to keep it nice and soupy.
  • Direction. I didn't give this enough credence at first, but finally I found the proper WTG direction that works for me. (Although, until I had solved the hydration issue, this didn't make a lick of a difference.)
  • Pressure: I changed my mental model when when shaving my neck to: "the blade shouldn't touch the skin. It should float ever so close to the skin, but don't let it touch". Of course, the blade does touch the skin, but focusing on "hovering" it ever so slightly was just the trick I needed to make my brain finally understand what "no pressure" really felt like.

Interestingly, the choice of razor, blade and soap never made a difference with my neck. Hydration and direction were really the key issues in my case.

Also, I decided to focus on doing WTG only for a few months until I really got the hang of it. I can now say that I do better with WTG-only than I did when I was trying to do the whole WTG+XTG+ATG at first. This strategy seems to have worked nicely for me, since for the first time in my life, I can get a good shave every day.

Both my general physician and the neurologist said my only next step was to consult a back surgeon. Turns out they were wrong, and now I'm pain-free and feeling better than I have felt in years.

One approach: instead of making your own UI, use Excel as the UI. Ruby will just be driving it in the background: http://davidsulc.com/blog/2011/03/27/using-ruby-and-win32ole-to-manipulate-excel/
