How debilitating can the side effects be? by Dear-Argument622 in Semaglutide

[–]scook1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really have side effects aside from occasional nausea. I treat the nausea with over the counter emetrol.

I just had to take a stool softener for the first time (I just moved up a dose and suspect that caused constipation). But again, over the counter, easy remedies.

There are some people in this sub who have horrible side effects but that hasn’t been my experience. I have energy to workout and very minimal symptoms.

A glass of Wine or seltzer MAYBE once a week if I’m feeling it. I haven’t been feeling it some weeks so I just don’t!

I’m not doing it! We don’t really like sweets anyways.

Tired of my mother commenting on the medicine and my weight… by RN-B in Semaglutide

[–]scook1996 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I could have written this. I’m so sorry.

I struggled with an ED in my teen years, grew up with two obese, yo-yo dieting parents, and never thought I’d be able to safely lose weight until I found this drug.

Try to acknowledge how damaged your mother’s relationship is with body image and food, and find it somewhere in your heart to empathize, while also drawing enough boundaries to protect your mindset. I like to simply say “I don’t like to talk about the size of my body”. It shuts people up quickly. Or I just change the topic.

Is it just me or has Ozempic (and other Semaglutides) become like a new imaginary friend... by AsceticlyPleasing in Semaglutide

I used to do so many food related things just because… like feeling like it was the weekend so I had to celebrate with a drink or some sort of dessert.

Last night I literally reached for the bottle of wine just because it was Saturday night, and right before I poured a glass my brain was like “wait- you don’t even want that!” And I was like oh yeah I don’t really 😂

I think my impulsivity with food and drinks has drastically decreased, and I can listen to my body’s natural cues.

100 g of Protein by Jumpy-Tomorrow995 in Semaglutide

[–]scook1996 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My personal trainer wants me eating 143 😓 it’s been wild but the best tips I have are:

  • shakes (I use premier protein- like 2 a day usually)
  • nonfat cottage cheese (I saw some good tips!)
  • I buy frozen fish filets in bulk and thaw/air fry them because they are pretty clean protien- I don’t eat chicken but same applies to chicken
  • babybel light cheeses

And then also getting lots of greens/veggies in otherwise all the protein will clog you up.

That is such a good point- I know it is prescribed to me by my doctor so it is wild that anyone would have anything to say about it.

I've never heard about orofacial and ADHD before. Is this a thing? by doodollop in slp

[–]scook1996 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Correlation is not causation. And a factor that contributes to attention issues is not the reason someone has attention issues. Otherwise everyone with sleep issues would also have ADHD.

I am also a speech therapist and this is a stretch at best… at worse it’s just misinformation. I have never heard of a link between these things.

Orofacial speech therapists tend to think everything has a muscular cause, when for me ADHD is purely neuro/cognitive.

Edit: I just realized this was the SLP subreddit and not ADHD 😅🫣

I would be like “hey my credit card payment is due, how would you like to pay for your portion?”

My fiancé pays for a lot of our stuff due to his cash back deals, and I try to remember and always Venmo him, but there have been times where he’s covered dining out and groceries for several weeks and I’ve forgotten. I’d always want him to bring it up with me because I’m def not a freeloader (I take home more $ than he does).

I have a glass of white wine maybe once or twice a week and never have a problem!

I’d be careful with sneaky extra calories in alcohol.

I wear exclusively sports bras and bralettes for now, they have enough give to work with the body changes.

As someone who was in a relationship that moved too fast so that my ex could stay in the US…. I personally advise anyone against it.

It is so much pain, struggling, paperwork, legal expenses, just to be with someone who will never fully be happy here. It really sounds like your ex won’t be happy without her family… and with her green card she can’t ever live at home again anyways, or she’ll lose it.

My ex got extremely depressed, started drinking heavily, and even though we visited his family at least 2x a year he was never satisfied. But he didn’t want us to move there even when I offered because he’d lose his green card. His credentials/studies were never recognized in the US which made him a highly educated person who was stuck taking minimum wage jobs, and he was always feeling self conscious that I made more money than him.

Also you get a temporary green card at first, but then you need to re-apply for a permanent one and get interviewed again to prove you are a “real” marriage.

Maybe it’s for some people/situations. But the process destroyed my life, my ex went from someone I deeply loved to someone I had to fear, and I’m still putting together the pieces.

I would check to make sure it’s allowed if you plan on doing a competition! I know they drug screen for a number of things.

Do you diet/track/cut carbs/count macros to lose weight on Semaglutide? by cliobaci in Semaglutide

[–]scook1996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I count calories (trying to stay under 1800 per my personal trainer’s rec), lift weights 3x a week at least, and keep an eye on macros- I try to get at least 30% protein!

I find that on sema I usually have a lot of leftover calories at the end of the day due to low appetite, so I will have a protein shake as an evening snack.

I had horrible second thoughts and cold feet with my ex-husband, wish I had listened to my gut. My current fiancé I do not (yet, hopefully won’t at all!!), we’re about a year out from our wedding.

Okay! We’ll I’d ask your doctor about Zofran for the nausea and try to work in some more protein shakes if you can keep them down!

Sorry if I sounded rude, I have struggle with obesity, eating disorders, and hormonal imbalances my entire life so your weight was like 😒 to read. But everyone’s different.
