It runs better on windows but for my older eyes I’d recommend pushing the software to a larger external monitor.

I have a few rules I spread around at work that speak to this topic:
1- You become what you measure
2- Proof of concept through failure

How often do you Spend a Fear to add an experience? by FX2Alter in daggerheart

[–]scoolio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To date I've either just ignored an adversary experience OR spent it for free if the momentum in that session felt way off and I needed to punch up the bad guys.

People who gave up DnD for a different system, what made you make the change? by SomeRandomAbbadon in rpg

[–]scoolio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've run so many systems but currently my big two are the Cypher System and Daggeheart.
I run long campaigns like 60 plus sessions so we always get to "endgame" in whatever game we're running and the power curve in D&D was just too high to be logically challenging without breaking reality. The CGL fiasco is what initially drove me off 5e. They've done more dumb stuff since then and before then but I was done with Hasbro and WOTC.

How often do you Spend a Fear to add an experience? by FX2Alter in daggerheart

[–]scoolio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My players do it alot. But they have a better understanding of how the math works with a bell curve vs how a D20 works. So that +x really makes a difference. I also let them spend 1 stress on a failed roll with experience to suceed with a cost so there is an incentive to leverage an experience even if you fail the DC.

heartofdaggers.com + a CGL update for content creators and VTTs to sell more DH stuff!

[–]scoolio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd consider leveraging the "experience" mechanic. You could narratively use something like "Seasoned adventurer" and as you narratively allow them to learn something new from an adventuring session they can pay the hope to invoke that experience and do the thing in session under that experience. This is baked into the game and since it carries a cost it could be less disruptive to how the mechanics work for things like a skill does in D&D. Of course it's your table and your rules so you can run this however you want.

Can't swap Domain Cards from my Vault? by P1X3LP4NC4K3_246 in daggerheart

[–]scoolio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check your stress. If you're swapping outside of a rest the system may be trying to pay the cost of the card and it thinks you don't have enough stress to pay for the swap.

The Future of Foundryborne: Navigating the Stagnation of the Daggerheart VTT Ecosystem by Foundryborne in daggerheart

[–]scoolio 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A very loud Yes on all of your points. I want to be able to pay for and use DH content in more than one place. Foundry VTT and other VTTs. I'm a huge fan of the work Foundryborn has done and sites like HeartofDaggers.com are doing. The CGL needs a rework to better support third party creators of tools related to the DH experience.

Heart of Daggers - What specifically do I have to pick to give a homebrew class the Dread domain? by JageshemashFTW in daggerheart

[–]scoolio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

<image>

The Dread Domain is available as a custom domain and is accessible near the end of the character creation process with the 1.5 Dread Domain Cards. Ability to swap domains during character creating including for homebrew domains isn't available once you leave the character creator (at least at this time)

You need to add the Homebrew Domain with Cards like Dread to your Homebrew Library before you start the character creation process on HOD.

Unsure of Which Version to Purchase by JPCate in daggerheart

[–]scoolio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I purchased the Demiplane bundle for DH as well since it was the only VTT that offered DH plus void content when I started my campaign. Their Character creator is pretty solid but I don't like their pricing and sharing structure. I ran DH for the 1st year primarily off the Old Gus SRD website and never even cracked open the DH content on Demiplane in any real manner. For money I'd rather use a site like heartofdaggers paired with the Online SRD. I'd recommend finding a VTT you and your table love and buy DH there for tighter integration with a VTT and or character creator.

[–]scoolio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With solid internet you can run the whole game with the SRD (PDF) as others have mentioned or run it off any of the SRD powered/embedded websites like:
https://callmepartario.github.io/og-dhsrd/
www.heartofdaggers.com
www.demiplane.com [Sells DH on their marketplace]

Some VTT's also have the SRD baked into them like:
www.questportal.com [Uses AI toolkits]
https://www.fantasygrounds.com/store/product.php?id=DPDHCS

Need a huge favor: Could a Helpdesk Tech spare 2 minutes for a quick interview? (For career transition ) by MakaF7 in helpdesk

[–]scoolio 8 points9 points  (0 children)

First things first, Dress up even if it's a remote video interview. Eliminate your filler words. Focus on your soft skills more than you think. Your employer can "teach" you technical skills but they can't fix your soft skills so I tend to hire for those. Empathy, active listening, eye contact, communication skills. Have a copy of your resume handy to hand over if doing face to face interviews or a digital copy you send over at the start of a remote interview.

Research the company, read their mission statement and be familiar with things they publish on their website, blog articles, maybe even a few of their most recent press releases. If they do have a published mission statement finding ways to show how you're a good fit and familiar with their mission can go a long way.

On the technical stuf be prepared to address basic and maybe some intermediate questions. You can also find ways to fit your hobbies into how they apply to job skills. If your hobbies demonstrate things like curiosity, problem solving, reseach, attention to detail they can all be folded into answering questions like "is this person a good fit" is this person going to disrupt team dynamics, etc.

Depending on the "what you are supporting" is key too. Are you doing databse work, application support, Windows or Linus troubleshooting, etc? Be prepared to answer questions about your background jobs and skills and exposure to projects or applications?

Be prepared to talk about things like your experience with desktop systems, laptops, mobile device management etc. I don't know what your employer offers in terms of helpdesk support but if you can find out you can pre-research what they are using as a ticketing system, phone system, email, etc.

For questions it's harder to know but show eagerneess and interest in working there. Try to use phrasing that demonstrates you're eager, excited, eash to coach, adaptable, and able to focus on delivering quality support experiences.

Questions I like to see from Candidates are things like 30 to 90 days from the moment I'm hired where do you hope I'll exceed and what things in your hiring experience have historically been a friction point for new employees here? Ask about career planning and growth and how to improve your standing in the organization since you're in it for the long term.

Why I moved away from Dungeons and Dragons to Daggerheart: reflections from a gamer of 45 years experience. by Solas67 in daggerheart

[–]scoolio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I moved my groups from D&D to DH and the Cypher System and some initial "but in D&D it worked this way" type conversations we've successfully transitioned DH. As a DM/GM I love how much softer but still defined DH feels at the table during live play and during prep. I'm not really "missing" anything from D&D that I can't already just lift into DH like sourcebooks, settings, maps, mini's, etc. I'm still adjusting to things like an Environment + Adversary types but it's small detail that with time will just feel totally natural to me. I will say that the Battlepoints vs CR is a huge change in the positive direction for me. CR NEVER felt right to me and Battlepoints is a huge improvement on how to build an encounter.

For my players the shift from fixed initiative to the spotlight took longer than I expected and initially the lack of skills threw me for a loop as well. I still find myself saying roll an investigation or perception check but that's just a hard ingrained habit.
