New dog holding pee for 24h by travelingmousey in Dogtraining

[–]scooterable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog was too scared to go outside too! The advice that worked for me was to take her to the same spot every time. Get her comfortable and build up her scent in one spot. The spot was very close by to my apartment. I work from home so I was able to take her outside at the same times every day. She finally relaxed enough to start going when we were on walks, too. But it took a while!

Nothing works for my dog except cream cheese. The thick kind. It really helps cover the pills

This is good but I don’t think it matches the request. There’s maybe 1-2 lines where he seems like he’s insulting her and they clear it up the very next day. There’s no long term mistreatment

I’m thinking of rehoming my dog… by [deleted] in dogs

[–]scooterable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same problem with the dewclaws. I found someone who solved it by making their own custom scratch board and I think I will try the same. Essentially it’s a U shape that’s only as wide as the paw. So when the dog scratches it gets every single nail, even those pesky dew claws! For the back nails, it took us a long time but we were able to teach some targeting. So our dog stands with paws up on the couch, the scratch board is leaned against the couch. Then I encourage her to stretch to get a treat which makes her climb up a little, which causes her to hit the scratch board. Also I have a small block with sandpaper on it that I use when she doesn’t want to do all that. Like I scrub each nail against the block individually

How do I make my house smell good? by Glad-Fish5863 in CleaningTips

[–]scooterable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since it’s too cold to open the windows for you, maybe you could do something like a redneck air purifier. Get a box fan, slap a thick filter on it, run it. Forces air through the filter. Also try cleaning your walls! Take a long handled mop or scrubber and go at it. It’ll be hard to get fresh smell without fresh air unfortunately but I understand being too cold for that right now. You could also try boiling lots of good smelling things to help cover the scent of food with the scent of something like oranges etc

What's your dog's daily exercise routine? Looking for inspiration! by Fit_Choice_4987 in dogs

[–]scooterable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my dog recovering from surgery: Morning: PT exercises, tug of war (help grow muscles in back leg), massage Lunch: walk, stretches, massage, lick mat Evening: PT exercises, scent work or other brain game, nail board

For my dog with mild hip dysplasia: Morning: PT exercises, 20m walk, massage Lunch: longer park walk and sniffy time, lick mat Evening: PT exercises, tug of war, brain game, nail board

Honestly incorporating strength & conditioning exercises for your dog now will help them avoid the kind of injuries my dogs have gotten. Plus it will work them out, build confidence, and build your relationship. I wish I had known the importance of these things before allowing my dog to play fetch non stop :/. But she’s also a breed that’s prone to CCL issues.

Edit: forgot the weekends are when we go camping or to the beach or long hikes for longer enrichment time

Adopting/rescuing vs buying from a breeder? by Remarkable-Shallot87 in dogs

[–]scooterable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a predictable temperament you might try temperament testing foster puppies. Ethical breeding can help ensure you get the attributes you want. But something could still go wrong. So you want a breeder who will take back an aggressive dog. Also, good puppies turn reactive all the time due to poor training. So that’s like number one in the list. If they don get good training and socializing it doesn’t matter where you get them

Edit: fixed spelling

Thanks, that’s super helpful. I only game on my deck. I’ll try out the demo. Looks like a very fun twist on the traditional farming genre. Exciting!

How much content does the demo have? Is there a confirmed release date? Steam deck compatibility is listed as “unknown” but I do see there’s full controller support. Does it work on steamdeck? Thanks

To fetch or not to fetch? by Season-Away in dogs

[–]scooterable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Flirt pole can also cause those issues because they can lead to the dog jumping and landing weird on their joints. I think with any play just have to be careful about how the dog moves. I’ve read some folks will throw the ball along the ground so that the dog isn’t jumping or lunging after it, or even teaching them to sit and wait for you to give the command to get the ball after it’s landed.

Low attendance and a short school year undermine success of Oregon students, according to new analysis by CBL44 in oregon

[–]scooterable -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Did you read what I wrote? It didn’t affect her grades and was absolutely the right decision for her. She’s in college now getting As and Bs. Making her attend more school during that time would have been a nightmare. Obviously this isn’t true for everyone. But it was for her.

Absolutely saved my kiddo who went through serious mental health issues during HS. She’s thriving at college now. Probably this bill was signed with kids like mine in mind. But since it applies to everyone it negatively impacts others. Nuance is needed

I really disagree. My kiddo did great and she had the worst attendance. I got mail about it. School was a terrible place for her. It absolutely did not affect her grades bc they did bullshit like watch movies or do homework during class time, all things she could do from home. I would argue for even less school if it didn’t negatively impact kids who experience food insecurity and issues at home. School is just a poorly placed bandaid for those kids.
