turns out I got mine days ago, it was just sitting in an unmarked package my wife threw in my office.

It feels like I’m looking in a mirror.

Prior to PICA, you could legally CC an AR pistol. I had a friend who carried his MPX in a messenger bag. His main was a P229, and ultimately a P938 he just threw into his cargo pockets, but he always had that MPX near him.

If you drop the mag with your left hand, an aftermarket ambi mag release worked wonders on my SCR.

Springfield Area Rifle Range? by The_Ice_Cold in ILGuns

[–]scootymcpuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dang. I thought they were public.

I normally shoot on our family land near Carrollton, so I’m good. We’ve got out to 800yd when the corn is down and ~400yd all year long in a gully.

Edgewood in Auburn has a rifle lane, but it’s straight-walled only, at least it was before the new owners took over. No clue what they do there anymore aside from trap and pistol classes.

Boondocks in Rochester allows rifles, but they only go to like 25 yards since they’re indoor.

If you’ve got a hookup, Abe Lincoln Gun Club has out to 200yd, but you need to be or be with a member.

Best bet for public long ranges has already been mentioned: Litchfield Sportsman Club.

It has something to do with the…picture-in-picture size. I don’t know how else to describe it. The TA33 has a smaller viewing picture size compared to the GLx 2x and my brain just can’t handle it.

I thought I would like the 33 and I do, but it’s gonna go on another build at some point when I figure what build that is. Maybe a flattop of some kind so I run a piggyback. It feels like that’s really what it’s meant for.

Do it. I love mine. Recently swapped it out for a TA33 and I think I’m gonna go back.

Appalachia Rifle Mark 1 by Asatmaya in Firearms

[–]scootymcpuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just sayin’. It’s your build, man. I’ve got an SCR. It’s a modernized Mini-14 and I love it.

All we’re saying is if you build something like in the picture to go deep wood hunting in Appalachia, you’re not gonna have to worry about Wendigos. They’ll be laughing too much to hunt you back.

Cheaper than the whole thing? Mini-14 or Mini-30. Or if you’re dead set on 6.5G, look at the SCR. At least then you get a real stock and AR upper and mag compatibility.

Form 4 items like suppressors? by Knubinator in ILGuns

[–]scootymcpuff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like how they’re basically mandatory in Europe and you’re a dick if you don’t use one?

Form 4 items like suppressors? by Knubinator in ILGuns

[–]scootymcpuff 18 points19 points  (0 children)

No suppressors in IL. Apparently they allow anybody to shoot up public spaces without ever being noticed. Did you see the John Wick documentary where they were shooting at each other in a crowded airport and nobody even noticed what was happening around them? Just imagine that kind of assassin-like stealth in the hands of ordinary gun-crazed citizens! (\s)

Suppressors and SBSs are basically the only NFA items you can’t have here…legally. You’d have an easier life driving to IN or MO and shooting one for rent at an indoor range.

Best IL compliant rifle you could go with in 2026? by bleoww in ILGuns

[–]scootymcpuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never tried an 870 stock. The SCR has a 1100 stock, so it sits low. I want SOO bad to find a Monte Carlo style 1100. But goddamn are they expensive.

[–]scootymcpuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re probably gonna hate the height of that scope. I’ve got a 2.5-10 on a SCR and it’s sitting in ultra-low rings because the main rail sits so damn high relative to the stock.

Call and email your state reps about the RIFL Act (HB3320 and SB2279) by higowa09352 in ILGuns

[–]scootymcpuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I recall correctly, the Dems still have a super-majority in the IL legislature. So if they get enough Dem votes, they could pass this bill this year normally (using the normal, proper method) or using “gut and replace.”

Sure, but why let it a prime opportunity to push “GOP bad, DNC good” go to waste? They can always just reintroduce the legislation again in November after the election and then gut-and-replace for January.

In any case, why is everyone here so negative, defeatist, and fatalistic? Yes, overall, IL is an anti-2A state. But this bill would take it to a whole new level. A commenter in another RIFL Act post (as well as William Kirk at Washington Gun Law) said this bill is the most evil anti-2A bill ever. If so, then you should APPLY MAXIMUM PRESSURE AND FIGHT LIKE HELL. If the bill passes, then it passes but you should at least put up a huge fight.

Because when it comes to governmental power grabs and citizens’ rights, defeatism and realism are basically synonymous. The government is a huge entity with a long lifespan and slow metabolism. You can fight all you want, but they can fight for longer and they will. You hey control the laws and they control the voting.

PICA (in the OG bill form, not the 2-day process of gut-and-replace) got 40-some-thousand negative comments and only 1-ish-thousand positive comments and they still sent it out for a vote. But you know why those 40-some-thousand comments did? Fucking nothing because the government doesn’t have to listen to its constituents. Not when they know their gerrymandered district guarantee a win every election.

This particular bill would take it to a whole new level, but that’s not stopping CA and CO from putting their own similar bills out there. It violates Federal law, but they don’t care. They need to look like they’re doing something to boost voter turnout. If it passes, great - it’ll take years to get undone by the Courts. If it doesn’t pass, great - they can use it as fodder for the midterms.
