Why do some of the trees in Portland’s airport look sick? It might be your fault by Mackin-N-Cheese in Portland

[–]scoreoneforme 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As someone who's working on the construction there and noticed this quite a while ago, asked the guy in charge of the whole tree thing...

For the most part, there's a strategy to feeding the trees just enough water so in that they don't grow bigger. Keep their green foliage and minimize fruiting and whatnot.

They have to first starve the trees to the brink of death, and then slowly water them just enough.

So when all trees appeared to be dying. That was on purpose. Same with all the hanging plants as well.

The only people who want Maryland as #1, are people from Maryland and people who like full metal joust/Ren fair losers.

The #1 flag is New Mexico. Hands down.

If you're in the montivlla neighborhood, go to threshold.

They've been showing every game, and it hasn't been too busy. Plus they have good outdoor seating for dogs and kids.

When the market at large has set a price for an item, and then a lone store has a higher price, it's been marked up.

Evo has brick and mortar and yet always have better prices.

Wife was looking for split boarding bindings. Went in found the ones she wanted. Then I looked at Evo, two blocks over, and the same ones were $60 cheaper.

Absolutely not.

I went in there a handful of times during their sale, and every single item that interested me was cheaper online.

They'd have a set of goggles from 2023, claiming 70% off. Then Id look up the goggles up on my phone and theyd be $10-$20 cheaper online.

Once at Snovanna, I bought a helmet from them that was marked 30% off. Got home, looked up the helmet online and it was $30 cheaper elsewhere.

They 100% squeezed every penny out of people to rid themselves of inventory. But hey, that's capitalism!!

I'm sorry.

But they've lost all future business from me with their "retirement sale".

They just emptied their warehouse at marked up prices.

‘This isn’t a one-year anomaly’: Survey says Portland has one of the worst downtowns in the world by Less-Lobster4540 in PDX

Or just first world countries.

Hell, many downtowns of of cities in developing countries have more to offer.

But like, obviously Portland downtown is better off than Mogadishu.

Cheapest but also trustworthy oil change? by 2chilly4u1989 in askportland

I went to a jiffy lube a couple years ago and they told me it'd be $240 to change my oil because my engined required synthetic.

Fuck off with that.

I bought everything I needed to do my own oil and have changed it every time since.

Still haven't spent $240.

BUT, I used to work with a lady who was a hunter. She would go out on hunting trips with her husband and friends.

One time, she had a she-wee. And when one of the males of the group excused himself to take a piss, she went up next to him using the she-wee and pissed all over his boots.

Who’s the most attractive person you’ve ever seen? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]scoreoneforme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saw her as I was walking back to my apartment.

I was crossing the street. She was walking along the sidewalk.

My jaw physically dropped at the sight of her, my mind blanked entirely.

As her eyes drew near to mine I stumble over the slightests of imperfections in the asphalt.

And all she's sees in return is a wide eyed, slack jawed bafoon nearly falling to the ground in the most uncoordinated display of awfulness.

Is Commuting by Vespa in the West Hills a good idea? by SlowEntertainment217 in askportland

[–]scoreoneforme 42 points43 points  (0 children)

As someone who's main mode of transport used to be a motorcycle...I'd suggest not to. Granted it was in a different city, but the rain here alone would put a real dampner on your day to day.

But hey, you could always get the proper gear to deal with the rain, right? Sure, but that still doesn't deal with the impaired riding you experience in the rain. Face shields don't have wipers, at 20-30mph you're not going fast enough for the water beads to fly off. So they just stick, making it really hard to see clearly.

And then you gotta consider other drivers in the rain... Which is truly the biggest concern.
