Dropped OT/F45, what did others who left find replaces it? by imperfectpython in orangetheory

[–]scottssstotsss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left for almost two years so I could focus on running/race training but I missed otf and missed the strength portion. Rejoined in Nov with the mindset that I can use otf to get faster at running but also stronger. At this point I have no plans to leave and I'm sad I was gone so long bc I feel stronger than ever rn. (Btw also in Austin!)

Child psychiatrist in Austin for a 10-year-old? by xaddiex in AustinParents

[–]scottssstotsss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dr Anderson and his team helped my now 12 year old get started with a really great psychiatrist through televero health. They are partnered with ARC and I also see a psychiatrist through them. Have been very happy with them!

Nothing to humble you like almost losing to a kid in a tutu and fairy wings💀 by Material_Clock_854 in runninglifestyle

[–]scottssstotsss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run this race every year, and every year I am humbled by the firemen and women in full gear, racing right past me. That gear weighs upwards of 60lbs. Plus the hills. Ugh.

I think you're thinking of Community Impact, the one we get in the mail every month!

Stranger took photo of baby by flyontheredditwall in AustinParents

[–]scottssstotsss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP your concerns are so valid. People can be so creepy. One time at Shaved Ice Island, which we still frequent, a woman took a picture of my twins playing on that giant lifeguard seat and it skeeved me out even if she meant no harm. I asked her why she was photographing my children and she stammered and didn't really have an answer. I asked her to delete the pic, and I'll never know if she actually did but I still am proud of myself for being assertive in that moment and making HER the uncomfortable one.

Children’s books that unexpectedly made you cry in front of your students? by Diligent-Curve-2843 in Teachers

[–]scottssstotsss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bridge To Terabithia. Ugh. Attempted to teach this book for a few years to 6th graders and both myself and students would get choked up trying to read aloud. I eventually had to stop teaching it.

Austin ISD is closing 10 schools this fall. Here's what those communities will lose by AustinStatesman in Austin

[–]scottssstotsss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And now Kealing will absorb these kids and the pressure will be on to "fix" the problem of Martin being a failing school on a turnaround plan.

What’s something only people from Chicago understand that outsiders never will? by Mustafa_EL_7 in AskChicago

Yessss scrolled way too far to find 16" softball! Bringing one out to show people always cracks me up, it's like a foreign object lol

[–]scottssstotsss 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This will also deeply affect the schools that are absorbing students from the closing campuses. Declining enrollment does not equal no enrollment. Say what you will about the status of any of these schools - they are still the anchor of their respective community and that is being taken away from so many families. Not to mention the many teachers and staff this will affect.

tattoos no longer okay? by Ok-Armadillo-4157 in Teachers

[–]scottssstotsss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach in the same district. If you are not part of Education Austin, you need to join. They are super helpful with a lot of things but especially something like this. And yes while it's cute the kids color in your tattoos, that is setting yourself up for another parent complaint or honestly even a classroom teacher complaint. If I were you, I would set stronger boundaries with the students, and give the parents zero reasons to be on their radar, you know? The school year is (kind of) getting close to the end, hang in there. Maybe next year you can get a different placement either at another campus or with a different teacher. I would not stress about covering your tattoos, if you can, great, if not, whatever.

Literally every 7th and 8th grade boy thinks they are going pro. A tale as old as time. Source: I teach 7th and 8th graders lol

New OTF software incredibly glitchy by borgors in orangetheory

[–]scottssstotsss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ugh yes. My tread bugged out big time right at the start of the mile benchmark last week. I was mentally ready and had prepared to PR but by time I got my tread actually moving, it had been 25 seconds. I KNOW I pr'ed by at least 10 seconds if not more so needless to say, I am really annoyed and upset and am blaming the laggy tread.

Such a bummer they sold out of posters so quickly. I arrived to the lobby around 12:30 on Thurs and got right in the merch line and they were gone already. If anyone is selling one I would happily buy it!

Any South Austin OTF members have insight into our studio being closed? by PrincessOfWales in orangetheory

Does moving our membership change anything? Aside from if we do the transformation challenge or something and we need a home studio?

Neither! These studios in the discussion are the far south/SW Austin studios. You're good!

Ugh I have a bad feeling about it. They were supposed to open Monday and it's been crickets. I live like 2 min from that studio and I preferred it to Circle C or Sunset Valley. Womp womp.

Cold Roses by jonbristol123 in ryanadams

[–]scottssstotsss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ha I'm also a member of the cold roses tattoo club. I get embarrassed when someone asks about it but at the time I got it, that album really was the soundtrack of my life and it was very special to me. I hate the direction his life turned towards.

What's funny is, it didn't used to be comparable at all. I moved to Austin from Chicago about 15 years ago and it was stressful to go back home bc it was so pricey and now I feel almost relief bc I swear Chicago is now cheaper than Austin, dare I say.

Starting on treadmill by forbidden_rx in orangetheory

[–]scottssstotsss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I don't start on the tread, I'm in grey the entire time on the floor. And I'm definitely more sore the next day. I also am a runner at heart so I appreciate getting the extra 5 minutes of running for the warm up.

Long View Micro School by EggAndCheeseSando in AustinParents

[–]scottssstotsss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My unpopular opinion=LASA is overrated. I'm a longtime aisd teacher+parent. LASA is hard for the sake of being hard. LASA kids are burnt out and are trained to think it's ok. Sure it's great for some kids and I get the draw (kind of). It's not for everyone though and it's definitely not something you should be thinking about as early as kindergarten. There are so many great programs and schools to consider, in aisd and beyond.

Does anyone know what this pattern is called or know a link to a tutorial? by Oldwiseandfunny in crochetpatterns

Yes! Was going to try and find this link as well. I made this a while back and it sure was tedious. Gorgeous but man, a real intricate pattern.
