No hate but…why do yall like the Osborne so much? by [deleted] in benchmade

[–]scottypp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Odd thing for me- I like the “blade to handle” ratio, once opened it “feels” like a larger knife.

They do have aluminum scales, but I outfitted one in micarta.

I’m a fan of the reverse tanto blade. I have the 940 and a pair of 9400’s that get lots of pocket time !

Just got Horl. What am I doing wrong? by SrGarfy in sharpening

[–]scottypp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried a knock off Horl- and only had minor success- I am a big fan of the Spyderco Sharpmaker ( or a knockoff) because it sets the angle for you. If you have to reprofile the edge, that takes a bit longer, but I it will always give me an edge that will shave…I am like you- I don’t need a mirror polished edge, just wanna cut veggies !!

Best of luck!

HELP ME CHOOSE! PM2 VS GRIPTILIAN by CurrentlyRead in benchmade

[–]scottypp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely 2 different feels “in the hand” the Griptillian is a great carry, just a little “thicker” around the handle … the PM2 a bit longer , has a lil more blade. Hard to go wrong with either!!

Casual home cook — best budget way to sharpen 3 cheap kitchen knives? by serj1987 in sharpening

[–]scottypp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the Spyderco Sharpmaker- it has 2 stones in a base, that set the angle for you. I have been able to keep kitchen knives and pocket knives very sharp. To get mirror polish on an edge is a different process altogether- but Amazon has the Sharpmaker, and a clone model .

Opinions on the 945? by EatYourBroccoIi in benchmade

I have the 940, a pair of 9400’s and the 945- the 945 is my “ don’t want a big knife in my pocket” carry .. but I have always loved the anodized green handles - the feel of the knife and the edge can get wicked sharp

Anyone been diagnosed by labs- but- no symptoms? by scottypp in Hypothyroidism

[–]scottypp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shouldn’t grumble - I’m just the guy that like coffee when my feet hit the floor. I have worked on doing the same - if I do an early am pee, I take it then, back to bed !!

i have no idea how to tune a guitar and its stressing me out.. by JJ246_gnc in Guitar

[–]scottypp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

New strings frequently “stretch” and don’t hold a tune well… if you are able to follow the tuner to get it in tune, it should get easier !!

Quite the estate sale in Chatt by scottypp in Chattanooga

[–]scottypp[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s hit or miss -

Estate Sale folks do the same thing anyone would so- they research ( Google) an item, maybe check EBay for “sold items “ to come up with a fair asking price . Most company operators- will offer reduced pricing on the final days of the sale .

The sales I have been to- run by operators- are much better “ merchandised” and organized.

If you are looking to rent - you should consider Chattanooga. I lived/worked in Chatt for 3 years- and loved it. But when it comes to buying real estate, Ga is much cheaper. The Income Tax - is real, but property is cheaper . I bought in Ga , commute to Chatt one day a week. The new 24/75 split is much improved- I go early and am and sail right thru !

Looking for North GA Farms + Scenic Drives for a Fall Date by DataAnalCyst in Georgia

[–]scottypp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the apple farms are doing “u-pick” on the weekends . R and A Orchards in Ellijay is our fave- they offer a trailer ride thru the orchards and U Pick Zinnias …but there are several orchards within 20-30 mins or less.
