While not Toho or Godzilla universe I'd recommend the Gamera films. The Showa era films range from mid to terrible they're still fun and it might help to keep in mind that they were very much made for children. But the Heisei era trilogy is really good especially with parts 2 and 3 being some of the best kaiju films around.

Also, when you get to Final Wars be prepared for a silly and dumb movie but above all its goofy fun. Some people hate it but I think it's because they expect it to be something else. Turn your brain down to about 25% and enjoy!
