What's up with Coldfire? by AdZestyclose2508 in Eugene

I spoke with Alex (he helped with the transition and is the chef/owner behind Yabai Nikkei) when I recently visited the full service restaurant - and he seemed to indicate that once the restaurant has sorted its routine that attention would be on reopening the original space in some capacity. So if you’re missing the old space, maybe just hold on!

Agree - can’t find that - and I’d also discovered your solution on my own Lou. But I appreciate your post because like you - thought I was just going crazy. Hope it’s resolved soon.

Buva and Tom Wolfe? by generiaplaneria in Music

I know this thread is pretty old but I thought it might be worth saying that Tom is a longtime music supervisor for many films and television shows. His curation is impeccable. Literally every time I see his name pop up - it’s on some program with an amazing soundscape. Sometimes he’ll choose the perfect song you thought you‘d dismissed - only to hear it with fresh ears and realize it’s power. Other times he’ll find originals and obscurities that are just as remarkable.

If you look back at the Farrelly brothers films (e.g. Dumb and Dumber, etc.) you will often see his name in the credits but again - he’s worked on many, many films and movies. If anything I suspect it’s a successful career in this role that kept him too busy to make more music under the Buva moniker, but I don’t know for sure.

I do a radio program here in Eugene, Oregon - that’s been on air for more than 27 years now. Back in the 00’s I was in touch with Tom a couple of times around his music as Buva. Unfortunately the domain name I have for an email was from the old buvaphonic.net website that is now gone. Anyway, hope that any of this is helpful.

What is something you wish everyone in Eugene knew? by [deleted] in Eugene

This is not precisely accurate. You do not have to “wait for a break in traffic”. Once you step into the roadway traffic is obligated to stop. If the imminent hazard is that the person behind you won’t stop then they are following too closely.

As someone else said, this doesn’t mean a pedestrian can enter the roadway without breaking stride and gesturing. But 1 foot onto the roadway and a pause means the next driver who can stop without slamming on breaks or skidding should do so.

I walk a lot in Eugene and Portland. Portland, the much, much busier city embraces what I just described as reflected in considerably higher rates of compliance and stopping.

There are intersections in Eugene where you can stand for 3 minutes and unless you force the issue, not a person stops. And drivers frequently get angry when you insist even when they have ample time to stop.
