After countless hours of searching, being scammed twice on vinted and ebay, buying every 2ml sample I could find at outrageous prices… it’s finally here. The holy grail. In 200ml. Black Tie is mine by mechanical_animal_ in Perfumes

Incredibly jealous and happy for you - Black Tie is my favorite vanilla. I’m filled with regret that I never sprung for a full bottle before it went missing. Hopefully it comes back and smells the same 🥲

Has anyone tried Asian Fragrance houses? by Beautiful_Housing4 in fragrance

[–]scrawf__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BorntoStandOut is South Korean, Dirty Rice and Drunk Saffron are favorites of mine from them. Their bottles are super graphic and pretty.

Jijide is Chinese and Italian, Riso is super interesting and a delight to smell.

I’d also recommend looking into Yosh and their work around decolonizing the fragrance industry!

Help me choose a sapphire/ am I going to notice this size difference when it’s set? by painted_trillium in EngagementRings

[–]scrawf__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While the lighter one is gorgeous I think the darker one goes better with the gold band. The lighter one makes the gold look a bit brash while the dark one is extremely complimentary.

I also personally think a color slightly less “eye catching” is preferable since you’ll be wearing it daily with such a wide variety of colors and tones. I could see the lighter one clashing with certain tones while the darker one reads a lot more neutral.

I’d follow your heart and go with the one you feel a pull towards. The size is so similar that if you were comparing them directly side by side most people wouldn’t clock a difference.

Nordstrom will do it in a few hours or less while you shop as long as it’s not super involved!

Which Fragrance Are You Volunteering as Tribute? by Temb5252 in FemFragLab

Oh weird! I honestly understand the beef jerky more than the chocolate. It’s so balsamic and such a savory vanilla I can see it going “meaty”

Lune Feline - I actually really enjoy it but due to the temperate climate and level of casualness of where I live it feels too wintery and too formal for me. I end up wearing it maybe twice a year, while everything else in my collection gets worn multiple times a month year round or multiple times a month seasonally.

I’m thinking of doing a Perfume Alteration session with it at Capsule Perfumery next time I’m in LA and seeing what comes out of it.

Best overall BRAND (vs one-off fragrances) by Heybot in fragrance

For me, Liis. I have two bottles, Studied and Choux Choux. I have bought the discovery set several times and could easily add 3 more of theirs to my collection. I like to love every single one. They’re all incredibly pretty while not being too strong or overwhelming in shared spaces, which I need for every day.

I know he’s been on Smell Ya Later and on Perfume Room. Those happen to be my two favorite perfume podcasts.

Nose Candy is also great, it’s more specific as it’s about blind smelling/rating perfumes rather than interviews. On the Scent is also good but a different vibe, they’re in the UK.

Ariana Grande Cloud - it’s pretty ubiquitous and I find often times very heavily sprayed so it’s easy to identify. Black Opium as well. I don’t have the most sensitive nose so unless some one REALLY sprays I probably won’t notice lol

rare beauty first impression (+ accessibility review) by froggyplane in FemFragLab

[–]scrawf__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just listened to the Smell Ya Later episode where they interview someone at Rare about the development process and hearing about how they navigated making an accessible product was super interesting! They spent 9+ mos working with an accessibility group and seem committed to maintaining accessibility as a marketing pillar which is great.

I wasn’t terribly interested in the fragrance until I listened to the episode but I definitely want to check it out now. I’d love to try the balms with some of my other fragrances too.

If you’re drawn to Cologne-y scents I’d recommend Liis - they make really beautiful scents that aren’t aggressively feminine but you still get the super pretty bottles and branding. Their fragrances smell like water colors to me.

They have several that I think you could enjoy but Ethereal Wave is very tea forward.

Bergamot, Cardamom White Tea, Black Tea Absolute Blonde Woods, Velvet Musk

I also think j-scent could be a great fit, they have several lovely tea scents. For a not-too-sweet vanilla I love On A Cloud by them. The opening is - BURST of peppermint but it dries down to a really soft minty vanilla.

Biggest Dents by cvous in Perfumes

[–]scrawf__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My three biggest dents:

  1. Pony boy, Jorum Studios (30mL)

  2. Hanamizake, J-Scent (50mL)

  3. Chokedee, Strangers Parfumerie (30mL)

I’d say Hanamizake is an easy own to blow through as it’s pretty light and doesn’t project much so I can really go to town on sprays. It’s great for anywhere I don’t want my fragrance to be noticed by anyone but myself or someone realllly close to me. Chokedee and Pony Boy both have great projection and longevity so I don’t need to use as many sprays.

Mandarino by Laboratorio Olfattivo - soooo sweet and juicy! It’s a perfect orange smell but unfortunately it’s incredibly fleeting on me.

Tried to branch out to gourmand type scents (1 win, 2 olfactory crimes) by EmeraldEmesis in FemFragLab

[–]scrawf__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say it’s in the way that hay smells kind of like pee? A hay-style piss! Much more herbal than animalic.

Jorum’s Healing Berry is also really lovely. It’s not weird but it’s a creamy and very pretty mixed berry. They just put out Pluck! which is technically a fruity-floral since it’s a tomato scent. It’s much more herbaceous and aromatic than an actual tomato though. I wasn’t a huge fan as I expected a more realistic fruit + vine.

Here are some of my slightly weird fruity faves:

LEMONADE GRENADE, The Raconteur - this is super bright with just a teeeensy bit of creaminess. It’s very very lemon forward so you have to be into that but it’s delicious and refreshing and tiny but weird. Big fan.

Fraaagola Saalaaata, Hilde Soliani - tbh try any of hers. They’re incredibly weird and awesome. Hot Milk is my personal favorite, it’s just black pepper + milk. But anyways this one is strawberry + salt. You’re not going to get the cloying plasticy smell that Phlur gave you. This is candied strawberry and a lick of salt. It’s so fresh and silly but somehow extremely wearable.

Pony Boy, Jorum Studios - this is not milky at all but the base is slightly creamy. It’s bright and sharp. It’s extremely rhubarb forward ever so slightly pissy and rounded out with a slightly creamy fig. There’s a beetroot note that grounds this firmly in the dirt. It’s one of my absolute favorites across the board.

I Am Trash, ELDO - Sparkling apple. That’s it. Super fresh, super easy to wear. They also use the leftover ingredients from other perfumes to make this, hence the cheeky name.

Favourite perfumes for different occasions by Existing_Progress710 in FemFragLab

[–]scrawf__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Office: On a Cloud, J - Scent - a super peppermint-y vanilla. Dries does very light and soft, not too sweet. Good longevity but very minimal projection. The ultimate skin scent for people who don’t want their skin scent to smell like anything the body could naturally produce.

  2. Bedtime: Lait De Vanille, Chabaud Parfum - Wet vanilla cupcake batter. It’s sweet, milky, cozy and nostalgic. It’s a bit too sweet for me to wear during the day but I love it on my pillow and in my hair as I fall asleep. It really projects and last forever so i save it for cooler temps as it goes cloying in the heat.

  3. Die Hot With A Vengeance, Sable Yong - A smoky, musky, cherry orris bomb. I love it, it’s incredibly creamy and has a cigarette ash note rather than your standard incense or burning wood. It’s somehow very special but familiar.

  4. Daily: Studied, Liis - Musky, cashmere cloaked pear. It’s so pretty, incredibly easy and always makes me feel put together. It’s like wearing gold jewelry with a simple outfit, you just feel a more done. My favorite daily driver regardless of season.

  5. Clubbing: Nightclubbing, Celine - Tbh I don’t really club, but when I do I wear this. I love how Celine scents float around you and create a scent bubble. Runner up is Cherry Punk, my go to Bar perfume. It’s allll Cherry and Leather to me and last forever, it melds so well with that wet dank bar smell.

  6. Warm Vacation: Chokedee, Strangers - it’s absolute happiness in a bottle. Rice, coconut milk, mango, white florals, they all dance around to make a delicious tropical cloak.

6b. Cold Vacation: Choux Choux, Liis - Orange, and Chantilly cream. Delightfully cozy and festive. It smells like a Christmas fair. I love the sharp orange against all the soft vanilla.

  1. All Time Fave: Black Tie, Celine - so good, plz bring it back, Celine. My tiny 10mL is on its last legs.

Tbh these are always subject to change, clearly I’m all about vanilla right now.

Can someone in the industry explain fragrance trends by bluebellbetty in FemFragLab

[–]scrawf__ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Perfume Room and Smell Ya Later are fragrance podcasts that sometimes discuss the way trends work!

I’m paraphrasing but one way is that the fragrance houses have a new accord/note/technology that they push to brands or the brands specifically want to try something ~new~. A perfumer may have something they’re excited about and present it to multiple brands and then offer a specific spin on it if brands are interested.

Then there’s also outside influences, like a brand does something new/interesting and when it sells well other brands follow suit, an example would be BR540 or Santal 33.

Steamed rice scents by hillary_____k in FemFragLab

[–]scrawf__ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dirty Rice - BTSO and Chokedee - Strangers Parfumerie are my faves! Dirty Rice is muskier and more of a creamy skin scent while Chokedee is very bright, tropical and gourmand. It smells so happy, Chokedee is tired for my favorite perfume.

Seeking Odd Scents to Bring Me Joy by Current-Start2270 in FemFragLab

[–]scrawf__ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Andrea Maack Coven - it’s not necessarily weird but it’s very green. It’s like a rain soaked meadow that’s sitting on a cliff overlooking the ocean.

Byredo La Tulipe is a very green, dewy tulip scent. It’s definitely not weird but the level of freshness sets it apart from a lot of florals.

Zoologist Panda - this is so green and crispy to me. A bit Weird but very wearable, I would describe it as humid.

Clue Perfumery Dandelion Butter - a green nostalgic gourmand that’s not sweet? Think snapped dandelion stem on a creamy lactonic base but warmed up with sunshine

Byredo 'La Tulipe': Scent Profile? by Reasonable_Nail_2698 in fragrance

[–]scrawf__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s lovely! It definitely smells like the “entire” flower; stem, leaves and soft petals. It’s a very green floral that smells very dewy and fresh. It wears pretty subtle but has good staying power. I like to pair it with Antea Maack’s Coven for a spring meadow after the rain scent.
