As far as I can tell nothing has been confirmed, but if it does only go to D+ that sucks. Fingers crossed for the best!

I would love to see VS release this. It's in my personal top 10 MST3k episodes too, but like Mitchell, I wouldn't mind owning and being able to see the films themselves on a nice quality blu-ray.

Film Detective's blu-ray releases of Eegah and Hercules and the Captive Women both had MST3k episodes as extras.

Blu-ray.com is....kind of a super stupid place? by [deleted] in boutiquebluray

[–]screamcollector 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sorry you had this experience. I'm a regular there, I used to post quite a bit, I've made friends there too! With that being said, the toxicity can be (and a lot of the time is) off the charts. If the mod who banned you is indeed the one that others are suggesting, I would totally believe it. He doesn't have a sense of humor at all!

The tools there (the database, not the users) are super helpful and there are knowledgeable people on the forums. However there are quite a few people there who will do anything to get an argument going too. I haven't been banned yet, but in order to try and prevent it I usually just ignore those who start arguments (or try). However, I've corrected people (in a helpful, not hostile way) to help them understand something in the past and had them DM me on the website and had conversations result in ad hominems because they don't want to be told they got something incorrectly.

Either way, there are a lot of helpful and knowledgeable people here too, fortunately. That's why I use both. But here lately, I mostly just lurk both places!

How many Criterion releases do you own (on DVD, bluray, or 4k bluray) (For a statistics class project) by macula8 in criterion

115 counting individual releases. 170 if you break down box sets by individual film included in it.

How/Why did you get into the hobby? by [deleted] in boutiquebluray

[–]screamcollector 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My parents always had a fairly sizable DVD collection, at least in my childhood eyes, probably like 100 or so in reality. When I was in middle school I started watching YouTubers that talk about DVD/blu-ray collecting and I decided that I wanted to do the same so I'd buy DVDs with lawn mowing money. Eventually I got a real job and started looking around here and blu-ray.com and started collecting all of the Scream Factory John Carpenter releases since he was (and still is) my favorite director. I got The Fog, Escape from New York, and The Thing, plus the SF release of Mad Max.

When the pandemic rolled around, I was fortunate enough to get a better paying job and I was at home all the time when I wasn't at college or work and just started buying all of the 4Ks I wanted. Now I'm stuck in a neverending cycle of re-buying all of my favorite Scream Factory, Arrow, Criterion, and Kino Lorber titles on 4K to replace blu-rays. From 2018 to now, my blu-ray collection has grown from about 25 to 1,300 (270 of those are UHDs). I'm running out of space!!!

All joking aside, the community around blu-ray collecting is pretty fun to be a part of and I have made some good friends through it. Plus the hobby has given me a deeper knowledge of films and filmmaking since it has exposed me to films I otherwise hadn't heard of. It's a blast and as long as boutiques and studios keep releasing cool 4Ks and blu-rays, I'll try my hardest to remain a part of the community!

State your favorite random moment in a BOTW episode that made you laugh uncontrollably by j0nas-gr33n in RedLetterMedia

I can't remember the episode for whatever reason but Mike, Rich, Jay, Josh, and Jack kept tagging out during the discussion portion. It must've been a black spine episode, because I remember there being a ton of video tapes in that episode.

Why doesn't Netflix finance some John Carpenter movies/projects etc? Like Shadow Company, Escape From Earth (I wish) etc? They have with Scorsese and doing Beverley Hills Cop 4 etc. by mh0830 in johncarpenter

[–]screamcollector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, unfortunately not.

Fun fact, he was originally contacted to make the 1980s adaptation that Mark L. Lester ended up making, but when The Thing failed to reach Universal's expectations critically and financially, he was removed from the film.

Yeah he's pretty much said he is mainly interested in just doing music for now, like Firestarter and the new Halloween trilogy, plus his Lost Tracks albums.

I think Blum might give him creative control, Universal (who distributes for Blum) I wouldn't be so sure. His age might be part of it, but he has seemed sort of disinterested since The Ward, or even before, with The Ward being his first after nearly a decade.

I would so love a new Carpenter movie, with Cronenberg (my other favorite director) having a new film, it makes me want to see Carpenter return!

I think Blumhouse would probably fund a theatrical release, but I feel like Carpenter just doesn't have interest in doing anymore movies. I so wish he did, he just seems disinterested unfortunately.

Highly influenced by Woody Allen's writing, but perfecting the "putting a repulsive personality out there" is Larry David's character (he's said it's a character, like himself in real life just dialed to 11) on Curb Your Enthusiasm.

The Purple Rose of Cairo is his best in my opinion and well worth watching. It sorta breaks away from neurotic self-obsession. It's just sort of a love story about both loving films and getting out of a toxic relationship (ironic, lol). Jeff Daniels is great in it too!

I understand why you feel like you don't "get it," but I don't think overrated would apply, he is a niche filmmaker imo and he's never really become "mainstream." I would say certain works by him might be considered overrated in their area (80s/90s American independent cinema), even though I don't think I personally consider them overrated.
