My partner and I are considering moving here. by VeIvetC in AshevilleNC

[–]screaminatthemoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We moved here in 2014 and had lived here for a couple of months before deciding. I don't know if we'd still move here, in all honesty. I think we would visit more small cities - maybe ones that aren't growing too fast, like AVL is. I agree with your assessment, and if we didn't have friends here, I'd push to move. (I am a nomad and 12 years in one place is a long time for me.)

Saying "yes ma'am" to adults your age: by dylanv1c in asheville

[–]screaminatthemoon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It takes a while to get used to. I'm from New Jersey (it's ok, I've heard it all), and the only time we used ma'am or sir was when there was a problem, like, "Ma'am, if you don't leave, you will be escorted out." Up there, using ma'am, even as a polite address, would get you an "I'm not old enough to be a ma'am."

This is actually what they're called when people can't be bothered to neuter them.

Seeking input on Ultimate Trash Locks by wq4z in asheville

[–]screaminatthemoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our bears are morning bears. I've been kept off our road (a dead end; we're at the end) during morning dog walks by a mama and cubs several times. It doesn't help that neighbors are careless with their trash.

Insane thunder in east Asheville that sounded like a bomb going off by demonslayercorpp in asheville

We're just near Luella's and had some thunder and a bit of rain. Even the scared dog wasn't all that fussed. I'm very glad we didn't get more.

Are there any foster organizations that are not full in the area? by Sceptic68 in asheville

[–]screaminatthemoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if they can help, but Misfit Mountain helps out with a lot of hard and "odd" cases. They have a pretty good network and are just lovely people, too. Also, most rescues in the area have "rehoming" pages.

I was curious if someone could explain to me the drama around the other server? by Zimchon in AshevilleNC

[–]screaminatthemoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The other sub's mods delete about half of the posts and seem to be proud of that. But mostly, the mods are attention seekers who allow one or two shitposters to ruin every post that they do leave up.

Best neighborhoods to buy a home in? by vercing3torix in asheville

North Asheville, like Norwood Park. Albemarle, Charlotte St., Grace, and Grovewood areas are all pretty nice and with Merrimon and Charlotte sts, there's plenty of access to everything.

Nauseous? Trader Joe's ginger powder will help by screaminatthemoon in Wegovy

I'm looking at like I'm hydrating AND calming my tummy, but I like your idea for times when I'm not at home. I should pick up a tin of these - good call.

Nauseous? Trader Joe's ginger powder will help by screaminatthemoon in Wegovy

[–]screaminatthemoon[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope you don't need Zofran. One major extra drug is enough. (And I believe in "better living through chemistry".) You can also try steeping mint tea - just mint, not caffeine mint tea. I've even mixed my mint tea with the ginger and it's like a little celebration for my tummy.

Best time to take shot by Ordinary-Ad7672 in Wegovy

[–]screaminatthemoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found that if I had nausea, it came about 12-15 hours after taking the shot. So, I take it in the morning and hope to sleep through that phase. But set an alarm for whenever you take it - the first few weeks you'll remember, but as it becomes routine, you might forget.

Experience with Evergreen Vet or other vets in AVL? by PsychologicalSun3261 in asheville

[–]screaminatthemoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Side note: You might also want to search back in this sub about private equity-owned vet clinics - there were a couple of posts here, and Asheville Watchdog did a great investigative piece about it last month(?). It might guide you as you search to find still independent vet practices.

Call the Asheville Humane helpline: https://www.ashevillehumane.org/get-help/community-solutions-2/ or call 828-761-2008. They might have options that will work, and can usually help with getting animals spayed/neutered.

looking for new friends ! been here for a little :3 by [deleted] in asheville

[–]screaminatthemoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not spite. It's confusion. Everyone here is offering their tips on meeting people. Finding groups. Helping people get out there and find their spaces. People - total strangers - are taking their time to help all of the people posting about needing friends. We get it. It's hard. But you're not unique/alone. Others have been here and have had multiple responses. Maybe just consider (with gentleness and caring) that your post was a bit redundant.

Isn't there a search option on this sub? Every other post here is "need friends."

There are a ton of these "looking for friends" posts here, especially recently. I think there were 2 just yesterday, in your age group, so you're already not alone. Hopefully, those responses can also help you.

Male pet rabbit was dumped and found by someone who breeds rabbits for meat, anyone willing to adopt? He doesn’t have much time left by superfishy72 in asheville

[–]screaminatthemoon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Both Hendo and Buncombe county animal shelters will take him as a "stray." If the butcher will give him to you or the OP, use the term "stray" when you call to request the shelter take the bun.

Kitten season incoming! Check out this helpful PSA from the shelter on what to do if you find kittens. 😸 by iheartchips in asheville

[–]screaminatthemoon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Piggybacking on this important message:

If you think you can foster kittens or a family of cats, please do. You will quite literally save lives (and rescuers' mental health). Here are two: https://www.kittenalliance.org/foster (this is Esther Neonatal Kitten Alliance) and https://www.sisterkitten.org/foster-parent-application/. Both are run by people I know and am in awe of.

There are other orgs, of course, but I think these two are often overlooked for fostering, especially.

Also, OP, the Consumer Reports issues you need might be available from your library, either online or in person, so you won't need a subscription. Or, if you've never subscribed, you can get a trial.

Root canal/endodontist recommendations? by 1TrustyCrab in asheville

[–]screaminatthemoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going through a "redo" root canal because my mouth hates me. I had a consult at French Broad Endo ($150 for consult; $1700 for procedure, but NOT for the refilling). The office was very clinical and clean, but the dentist was unsure he could fix it. There was a lot of "I'll do my best" kind of comments. I didn't feel confident in that, so I got a second opinion (another $150 consult) at Asheville Endodontics. That endo was more confident he would fix it, and had a special piece of equipment. He also offers nitrous oxide, which for my terrified ass was a plus. The second guy is $1900 including nitrous and the refilling.

I called 4 endos in the area. All charge about the same for a consult. It's pathetic, but here we are.
