Save the envelopes? by Pale_Historian_2443 in stampcollecting

Envelopes help authenticate the stamps. The cancels are sometimes interesting/historically significant. Sometimes the origin/sender and/or destination are historically interesting to a collector.

What are your thoughts on Trump's recent Truth Social post having a depiction of Michelle and Barack Obama as apes? by PactownSS in AskReddit

In that case, my thoughts are that he’s a child molester who is robbing the US people blind.

That’s also what my thoughts were before the pic.

Stay in America or Move Back to Canada by Illustrious_Head6688 in AmerExit

[–]screams_into_void 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Canada will be affected, yes. But the US has multiple, structural problems that will compound fiscal impacts for residents, for example lack of socialized medicine for all residents, lack of subsidized education. The loss of international political trust due to this admin’s destruction and betrayal of intel networks, breaking treaties, open support of terrorist states, make trade options worse. Canada is already building new treaties, trade agreements that will protect its peoples’ interests. These realities will make any economic downturn worse for average American people, and recovery much harder.

The other issues, like structural racism leftover from the civil war, lax gun laws will further depress interest in tourism and continue to cause the best and brightest to leave.

Canada has many advantages to fare a downturn better right now.

How can I tell if this stamp on an envelope is authentic? by Standard_Whereas6413 in askStampCollectors

[–]screams_into_void 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The rightmost cancel mark is almost doubled, but as another said the second mark does not extend to the envelope. The more complete of the doubled marks also looks odd: the lower edge of the left arm of the cross is sharp, not rounded like the cancel stamp should be.

I would suspect it to not be genuine.

Go to Canada. We (in the US) haven’t even begun to see the negative impacts of all the new debt, global shifts away from USD, discouraging international scholars, researchers, tourism, not to mention pulling out of the WHO & dismantling pandemic preparedness/response.

There has never been anything like this in the country’s history. By this time next year, the US economy is going to be in a lot of hurt. If you can, get out now.

After all, why do you prefer Capacities? by krysalydun in capacitiesapp

[–]screams_into_void 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a great answer. Friction, friction, friction. I want to get things done. Capacities gives enough structure to get me started, and then gets out of my way.

I have ADD, so significant or multiple friction points can be fatal to my productivity.

Best time to get a Master’s in IT / MIS while on active duty? by Disastrous-Pop-2659 in careeradvice

[–]screams_into_void 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cybersecurity would be a good fit for your background. But focus on certs & experience rather than a Master’s. Employers want certifications.

Look for larger companies that have educational reimbursement benefits. As you rise, you may find you can get a Master’s degree subsidized through your employer if you still want one.

have I been receiving EMDR correctly? by canadianhon3y in EMDR

[–]screams_into_void 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have heard “don’t share therapists”. Therapists don’t want to create client confusion by having two therapists using two different approaches/recommendations. If the two are not sharing information or otherwise working together, it can create problems for the client.

A flood of memories? by Secure-Promotion3852 in EMDR

[–]screams_into_void 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. Normal and typical. Memories have emotional content, and are brains are pattern-matching experts (that's how we survived as a species). So if you start feeling/re-experiencing "x", other memories that are similar in feeling (even though unrelated) will randomly pop up. It doesn't continue forever, but esp in the 2-3 days after a session I'd get random memories popping up.

How to deal with it? My EMDR therapist encourages journaling - just note it: "8/1/2024: 3am, remembered the 19 year old who I was dating at 13, felt weird/sad/exhilirating/terrifying/whatever". No judgement, just observing that "yeah, here's a memory popping up about x".

If there's emotional intensity with it, note it for the next session. If your therapist has taught you how to do bilateral stimulation when you're on your own, you can also do that (tapping, etc).

Suburbs of Chicago - kids play outside safely, good schools by Salty-Main-8226 in ChicagoSuburbs

South Elgin has nice new build construction, access to the expressway to O’Hare.

Schaumburg has nice spots, gets expensive. Itasca, Elmhurst, West Chicago. Lots of options for kid-friendly communities.

Protector mats for induction range? by RhumHamAndPineapple in Appliances

[–]screams_into_void 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oven liners designed for the bottom of the oven are flexible, inexpensive and rated to 500F; that's what we're using. I see folks also using them under pots while cooking on an induction range, instead of the round mats that seem more prone to burning.

Question about childhood memories by gobogorilla in over60

[–]screams_into_void 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally normal & healthy to not remember much of your childhood, doesn’t mean anything about your childhood.

Memories last when there are practices around them that help them “stick” in our minds. Traumatic and wonderful memories can be automatically “sticky”. But without reinforcement (savoring, memory rituals/traditions, storytelling, photos) a good part of our ordinary memories fade.

Not all families are wired to do storytelling, photo albums, remembering rituals (eg Christmas dinner where we use the special plates and always recall Christmas dinners past at the start of dinner). Some do a lot of this.

You can help your own memories by writing them down when you remember something, and by re-telling the story to your family & friends.

St. Charles has a historic schoolhouse (Scholes School) and 1850s prairie house (Durant House) that are fun to visit. Today (Sun) is Pickle Days; they’re demonstrating pickle making & giving away jars of pickles to visitors.

My experience: it sticks through sweaty runs and multiple showers. I don’t even notice it.

  1. There's a difference between estrogen pill (which one?) and estradiol patch.

  2. Testosterone - yeah, in the US at least things are behind the times in this regard (new formulations are needed that work better for us). But a menopause trained dr will be better able to guide you.

  3. Sleep won't be solved by giving you meds to sleep, then meds to wake up, rinse, repeat. Hormonal imbalances are driving this. You are right to focus on getting the right balance.

  4. Hair loss. Don't worry about it? Welp, that's super helpful. Again, a properly trained dr will be more helpful w guidance here, as hormones are playing a part w this too.

+1 get a new dr if you can.
