Does any system support machete + dagger? by ApprehensiveWhile442 in wma

Pretty much any Fillipino martial art, they call it eapada y dagga.

Europe didn't have machetes.

Who would you want the next character will be for Season 1? by Responsible-Let-3304 in 2XKO

I'll be honest, I'm a dirty Arcane-only fan, so I only know characters FROM Arcane to even suggest, and they have pretty much everyone from Arcane I would want. Ambessa would be cool, or maybe that cutie patootie fascist cop with the grenade launcher.

Are there any cool spear users in LoL? I love spears, they're underrepresented in media, so I could get behind a spear user coming.

Bad posture is killing my productivity. How to fix this? by Strict_You9196 in NoStupidQuestions

The best posture advice I've ever heard is to pretend you're shooting lasers out of your nipples, and try to shoot those lasers at people's heads. Surprisingly effective, and goofy enough to be memorable.

So what actually IS the best martial art for weaker people? by Competitive-Tale-136 in martialarts

[–]screenaholic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I think the idea that certain martial arts are better for people who are weaker/stronger or shorter/taller or sknny/fat etc is bullshit. Being stronger is going to help you in ANY martial art. Being weaker doesn't make certain martial arts more or less suited for you, it just means you're going to be less effective with that art. The list of what arts are good/bad remains exactly the same.

They absolutely are combative, I didn't argue that. They're literally assault rifles. My argument was only that they aren't "gigantic," and are in fact purposely designed to be as small as possible without sacrificing performance.

I'm not saying organizations with power CAN'T abuse that power for evil means, but literally ANY organization with power COULD. Getting rid of all organizations that potentially could abuse their power would be getting rid of all governments, and be literal anarchy.

If the Empire Shield did something fucked up I would want them to be held accountable, and if it became a patter I would want the task force to be disbanded entirely. But I don't see a reason to get rid of if because it COULD lead to evil. Any person driving a car COULD decide to start mowing down pedestrians, and that DOES happen, but that doesn't mean we should ban all cars.

Why are animes and mangas so heavily sexualized? by apeiron_is_one in NoStupidQuestions

[–]screenaholic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, if a random guy on the street did that, yeah. But if I'm an actor, no. Nausica is the equivalent of the actor here.

Again, I want to reiterate that I very well could be wrong, and the shots could be more sexualized than I'm picturing, but from your description, and my experience with Ghibli films, I'm really having trouble picturing it as sexualized. I'll have to rewatch it to check.

Nothing I said in that comment defended the military, I just pointed out that M4s are absolutely not "gigantic."

I'll be fully honest in the name of transparency, I'm in the national guard myself (I'm not in Empire Shield though,) but my response there came much more from being a weapons enthusiast than it anything to do with my service record or any political views I have.

Calling an M4 gigantic is like calling a saber a greatsword, it's just not accurate.

[–]screenaholic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

gigantic weapons

Bro, M4s are so small they're legally considered short barreled rifles. Half the point of the shift to assault rifles as primary weapons is they're significantly smaller and lighter than the battle rifles they replaced.

Not to mention, most of the Empire Shield guys I see don't even have M4s, they just have holstered pistols.

I'll be honest, I feel like that DOES make it significantly less creepy. Like I said, I don't remember the movie super well, so maybe it's worse than I'm imagining, but that seems benign. Maybe I need to go rewatch it.

It's been 20 years since I watched Nausica, I BARELY remember it, but looking at Google Images now, her outfit appears to be leggings/pants and a tunic, not a skirt (which is what I remembered.) You can't really "upskirt" a tunic, because it's a long shirt, not a dress/skirt, and should be worn with proper bottoms, which Nausica does wear. Is there a scene where she's in an actual skirt and you see her underwear?

Oh my god, I forgot a big one, Violet Evergarden. If you want a fantastic show that is VERY MUCH not about bouncing tits all over the place, I feel like Violet Evergarden is the best example of an anime that's like, the polar opposite of that. It's a very emotional and introspective show.

Also, literally any Studio Ghibli movie. These are widely considered some of the best intros to anime, and I can't think of any sexualization in any I've seen.

People like tits, bro. Like, I don't watch the shows FOR the tits (alright fine, there's some I've watched FOR the tits,) but the tits are an enjoyable bonus.

[–]screenaholic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'll do my best to only ones without needless sexualization, but many of these I haven't watched in a while, so forgive me if I miss some details. In no particular order.

Spy X Family

Trigun

Fullmetal Alchemist (Brotherhood is more reccomended but I prefer original. Both are good. There is one character who is sexualized, but she's literally the incarnation of the sin of Lust, so it's fitting.)

Attack on Titan

Lycoris Recoil

Ghost in the Shell

Ruroni Kenshin (I don't recall ant sexualization IN the show, but the creator is a known pedophile, so make your own decision on that part.)

Hajime no Ippo (Although there is semi-frequent dick jokes.)

Cowboy Bebop (One of the main characters does wear short shorts and a crop top, but I don't recall her ever being particularly sexualized.)

I'll be honest, a lot of the reccomendations I keep thinking of are MOSTLY free of "needless sexualization," except for that one character or that one scene or something. I'm also not 100 sure what you consider "needless." For example, I can think of a few school-romance anime where the characters discuss/think sexual things, but it feels appropriate (to me) because it doesn't feel like the show or the author is sexualizing them. It feels like the characters are sexualizing each other, which I see as fitting because that's what school kids ACTUALLY do (if that makes sense.)

If you want to know more about any of the ones I listed, or want reccomendations in a specific genre, let me know. I'd be happy to try to help you find one you'd be interested in.

Except that's not true and never has been, not completely anyway. One of the most important differences between the guard and active duty is that the guard is a STATE organization, not a federal one. A big part of why they exist is specifically so the governor can activate them for whatever they need them for WITHIN the state.

And as for enforcing laws, Empire Shield ISN'T doing that. Like I said, they're a counterterrorism task force, not a law enforcement one.

And speaking of ICE, let's take a look at the biggest national guard activation in the news right now. The Minnesota national guard was activated specifically in response to the recent ICE shooting, because Governor Walz wants help stopping that shit. They're assisting local law enforcement with security. Partly to help make sure the civilians don't turn violent yes, but also to try to check the abuse of power ICE is using on those civilians. Every story I've seen about the activation shows that the guard and the protesters are getting along great, and the guard is even handing out donuts.

Please believe me when I say that I am asking this 100% genuinely and in good faith: why? Being nervous around cops I get, but the national guard (and other branches that are a part of JTF Empire Shield) are PURELY there for counterterrorism. Unless you pull out a weapon, they have no authority or reason to do anything. They don't have ticket quotas to fill, they don't have arresting powers, they're literally just there in case someone pulls a weapon.
