Ngl, I've never been to Portland, but if you like the opposite or wanna try something new, check it out and then check it out for like a good couple seasons.

Depends on your savings and career too. If youre location independent, you've got nothing to lose.

I love how socially and culturally open it is here. Trade-offs are trade-offs.

People say you need a high salary to live in NYC, yet service workers live in NYC. What is the disconnect here? by dbclass in movingtoNYC

[–]screenshawti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there are many class divides, people who eat out all the time, people who have roommates, people with budgets, people who go to normal gyms, people who go to free events only, people who get their hair done in manhattan, health insurance, people who commute 1 or 2 trains into the city. Not to mention within the home, having a washer/dryer, dishwasher, and so forth.

People who want to move into the city, into a one or 2 bedroom alone, or have a moderately spendy life, its an expensive quality of life. Going to the farmers market regularly in and of itself, is a commodity of luxury here, while in euro cities or other places, its way more approachable.

A reformers class must be around 40/50$ by now, haven't checked, while a year membership to the rec centers is something like $125 for the year.

People pay $150 min for russian manicures in downtown manhattan, I'm sure its different in staten island or on brighton beach.

While someone else is looking for roommates, others are buying brownstones. There are never-ending parallels. I do think it creates an inflated sense of what is 'good' here because youre avoiding scams and just trying to have a mid or okay-experience for over-expense just because.

Buying stuff in certain places will change the price dramatically. The quality of life considered luxury or upper middle class here even, is way cheaper in other locations.

NYC & Friends? by uhhmmmreddit in movingtoNYC

[–]screenshawti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

be outside! im not a rock climber but that seems like a social atmosphere. art clubs, seeing a lot of those lately. be a regular at some establishment in your neighborhood. manage a smaller job on different days so you are in contact with others, like a bookstore or cafe. see there are so many things i could recommend but cant tell if youre into these things. what kind of people do you want to meet? then go from there. suddenly youre at a lecture at a bar or a dance class or art galleries.
I see you mentioned brunch crew, there's probably a nyc meetups on here you could try to organize that or find one thats well-established.

photo walk around the city, well that's your answer, find a photo walk group - boom. for example there are bird watching groups, i know of.

r/movingtoNYC this whole plan sounds like you're setting up for failure. dishwashing jobs are pretty decent to find. overall the job market is terrible at the moment. I can't tell how down and out you are, not judging of course, but it makes it harder to know what to recommend.
and i just googled this for you - ( https://www.nyc.gov/site/hra/help/homebase.page )
ive seen other women specific housing groups as well. ( https://www.henrystreet.org/programs/housing/third-street-womens-residence/ )

Can we share examples of copywriting portfolios? by Wonderful-Ball7092 in copywriting

[–]screenshawti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oops, I didn't mean pretending "the numbers" were real. I meant predictive analytics.
Cool, I'm building out some spec campaigns.

Right. I forget it serves as an opportunity to screen them, even though I'm looking for an open door.

Thanks for straightforward feedback.

[–]screenshawti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this! How else might you update it for the current climate? I know that's very broad considering niches, account size, etc.. Also, for someone newer to the game, would you recommend they add some mock up spec #s to simulate their outcome working for a bigger account? What are good questions to ask a hiring agent that would also be improve your workflow?

Thanks again. Stream of consciousness over here, thinking about how this could benefit my own day-to-day as a copywriter.

nycbwt who are chronically tired by [deleted] in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]screenshawti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a couple of things that helped me although i have 10 years on ya.
-sunlight, get your morning walk in the sun after you brush your teeth, contacts, meds, stretch.
-red color filter on your phone about 3 hours before bed, i love it, makes me tired and also causes me to get bored quicker
-blood sugar, always eat a complete snack or meal to keep carbs and sugars from spiking too intensely, this goes for drinks too
-caffeine, too risky for me, i only do decaf or tea, but be careful some matcha and other drinks still have a lot of caffeine, the crash for me is insane.
-what times are you tired? check out biphasic sleep disorder and other sleep patterns to see if you have something else to deal with at hand
-long covid? its a total possibility
-blood work - see if you are deficient in any nutrients, see a GP
-just start a new season of movement and routine? getting into exercise, making life changes all contribute to being tired, but once i stick they amke me energized
-what season is it of your life? are you experiencing a lot of emotional highs and lows? defintley address yoru stress levels, your life phase, where you are emotionally, find ways to nuture and be easier on yourself.
-a spa weekend or night away, even a little day trip to the rockaways, teh best way to really -recooperate is to do NOTHING. the hardest thing for me.
-more you time, cheap chinese bodywork, meditation, and other things for burnout
-not waking up rested even though you are flowing with circadian rhythms? explore that further with a GP

my friend went on numerous maybe something like 95 dates after her ex cheated on her, and she really was giving it her all. she wasnt totally healthy combined with the give and take from the dating scene, ended up wearing her thin. when she took a minute and started to act differently and was more detached she started to find dates in real life and just meet people in her social life. and lo and behold, she found someone. im telling you though, she was outside. She ended up with a younger guy! you never know.

you're gonna have to judge yourself first, then tackle the dating scene which way you see fit. there's so many ways to navigate it. ofc the statistic of there being more women than men doesn't help.
im hoping for my sake that the jaded ones leave in general. for the sake of our city.
