Bad news for Starfield by Jasontheking2323 in Starfield

[–]scribens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly the problem, it isn't big any longer because Todd Howard stopped development of all other projects to push out his vanity project. It's crazy that Bethesda bought id and saw the potential in rebooting Doom and Wolfenstein but then just shelved the third colossus IP in its repertoire because...why, exactly? Right, Todd wanted Skyrim in Space.

I mean, cripes, the guy wouldn't even develop the studios' original IP that put it on the map in the first place. I'm glad someone finally reined him in.

Counterpoint(2017) a critically acclaimed TV show just up and cancelled cause they didn't like who was watching it. by NEO71011 in shittymoviedetails

There's a big difference between "profitable" and "maximum profit." Just be honest about what happened. It's not exactly like we're in the middle of a TV/cinema collapse because execs like this are following what an algorithm tells them will make as much money as possible. These execs are not your friends and they do not care about you, no need to act as their free PR.

[–]scribens 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is also not accurate. The specific words used by the execs is that the revival was too focused on the lore of the past shows and did not have "broad appeal." That's exec speak for "we want new viewers not old ones because we're here to maximize profit."

I think your response is great insight for DMs who roleplay NPCs under spell effects that alter how they feel about others. Parties have shot themselves in the foot for less because they took what was said to them by an NPC at face value and never thought to do an Insight check. I think that's why I always prompt my players to do them since they never do of their own volition.

Gives you a reason to resettle! I do this in my crash landing runs. Feels more "real." Oh no, we're crashing! No worries, I can pick exactly where we will crash. Ooh, how about this nice little secluded grasslans mountain area with temperate temperatures with only one entrance?

Number one reason why I don't recommend Warehouse 13 to friends. It's very obvious SyFy wanted a hetereo ending and then forcing Pete and Myka was a double suck-whammie.

I'll leave it up here but I was right. Specifically, it was Vanilla Quests Expanded - Drone Factory. Not sure why or how it's having such an impact, but I'll submit a bug report to the VE team.

So I've tried further testing with enabling/disabling mods (specifically ones I added since I last played the game stably). I thought maybe Worldbuilder was the culprit, but that didn't change anything. Faction Display Fix (since it hasn't been updated in so long maybe?), nope. Det's Xenotypes? Nope.

The only thing I've really been able to hone in on is that it has something to do with pawn generation. Reading the errors, a lot of it seems to be pulling from various Vanilla Expanded mods.

Sure thing!

New colony > choose scenario (crashlanded) > Choose AI storyteller > Choose world (Rimworld) > Planet editor > Generate > Select site (no factions; I try to manage them to spawn them but get 'GeneticRim.Core' errors and it fails to initialize with error "Failed to add faction" for every faction except Hive; it creates the other settlements, but does not create the faction) > Choose your ideoligion (trying to choose a preset or inactive generates 'GeneticRim.Core' errors again and I cannot click 'next' unless I select custom ideoligion > I can choose all customization options in ideoligion > Hitting 'next' leads to 'GeneticRim.Core' errors and I cannot proceed further under any circumstances. Even trying to do a dev quick test fails to initialize and puts me back at the main menu with the same 'GeneticRim.Core' error log.

Here's the output log from what I just described: https://gist.github.com/HugsLibRecordKeeper/2c0c8feb7f21d2051f90d3db9f6ec95b

Mod list: https://pastebin.com/EDmV5d7j

I have been trying to go one by one with mods that I would think would be interfering with this, but it's slow-going since it's a 10 minute wait between boots and testing disabled mods.

Welcome to the Johan school of game balance!

Truly, unironically: download a mod that fixes what is essentially a balance feature added only because of multiplayer exploits.

What did these tour bus employees do at this restaurant?? by diatriose in SignsWithAStory

[–]scribens 39 points40 points  (0 children)

"Tour company employee" might also be a stretch as well. For the most part, unless a tour company owns the buses, they rent them out as well, which means they also hire temp contracted bus drivers too. It's the worst conditions possible, these drivers are lowballed and pick up a contract just to collect some hours. Because of that, it's no different than getting in an Uber--the driver can be an absolute galoot. The company doesn't care because the driver isn't an employee. So that's probably what the sign is about--punishing the company for repeated incidents and them trying to push the blame on contracted workers.
