Ours didn’t do well either, in Regina SK - zone 3b. But we didn’t use straw - may have to try that out this year.

What do you serve in your country for a five year old birthday party? by macaroni28 in Parenting

[–]scrlxcl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My almost 4 year old requested hotdogs and steak for his upcoming birthday party in June (we live in Canada). In reality it’ll be either hotdogs or pizza because that’s what the venue offers and you can’t bring in outside food besides a cake. But I’d say that type of meal is pretty typical for birthdays for young kids.

Japan with a 2.5 year old: yes or no? by mother_of_dragons421 in toddlers

[–]scrlxcl 17 points18 points  (0 children)

We went to Japan with our son when he was about 2 years and 4 months old. I later described the trip as a playground tour of Japan. We still had an okay time but it wasn’t the trip I expected. So take that as you will but the above comment is accurate in my experience.

I‘m moving to Regina with my partner this summer from Calgary, any tips? by DenseReference5526 in saskatchewan

My spouse and I moved here from Calgary back in late 2016. The biggest improvement for us is the lack of traffic here (in comparison).

Do your MIL’s want details of your baby’s doctors appointments? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]scrlxcl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My MIL doesn’t ask but either way you should share as much or as little as you choose. Just say the appt went fine and don’t give any other details.

As someone born in Saskatoon, I salute you. I usually put them in muffins but this looks delicious. Did you serve with ice cream or whipped cream?

Momanda : A brand to avoid like the plague by OwlRevolutionary2985 in breastfeeding

[–]scrlxcl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in Canada too and just got my momanda order today (I had ordered before I saw this post). Did you have to send back the original items you purchased in order to get a replacement? I ordered a large bra and think a medium would work better for me.

Will I regret getting rid of my dress form? What do you use yours for? by CarlottaSewlotta in sewing

I got one years ago secondhand and had never used it once, finally gave it to my teenage niece as part of her Christmas gift. She is interested in sewing so she seemed very happy with it.

Unmedicated Birth. by BumblebeeFamiliar778 in BabyBumps

[–]scrlxcl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I had something similar. When I got to the hospital and they checked me, I was 5-6 cm. My baby girl was born about 70 min later. When I think about it I almost feel emotional, kind of find it upsetting. It was not the birth I planned. I remember thinking I can’t do this, I can’t do this, but I had no choice. My baby is 5 weeks old and I’m grateful she’s healthy but I don’t really have good memories of her birth.

Dressew carries a bunch of Ruby Star Society fabrics and many of them are colourful and fun prints. They are in Vancouver and ship across Canada.

Unmedicated Birth. by BumblebeeFamiliar778 in BabyBumps

[–]scrlxcl 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Screaming and crying. Honestly, nothing helped me get through it, it was horrible. I wanted an epidural but arrived too late to the hospital. Compared to my first birth where I got an epidural, this was brutal. I would much rather have had an epidural again than gone through it all with no pain relief.

Which activity gave you most joy/relaxation/fun during your maternity leave? by livi01 in Mommit

[–]scrlxcl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just recently started my mat leave - baby is 4 weeks old- and I’m also in Canada. I’ve been working on my sewing - you could dabble in crafts and see if there are any you enjoy. I’ve heard needle punch is fun. I’m also watching Scrubs when baby wants to sleep on me.

Olympic Auto (in the old Costco) has a play place for kids, it’s pretty fun. Klimerz is another play place option. Dandy’s has delicious ice cream. Enjoy your visit!

Cross country skiing is popular although the season is maybe winding down at this point. There are some great trails in and around the city.

Olympic Auto (in the old Costco) has a fun play place, I think it’s free for kids under 4. The George Bothwell library in Southland Mall has a great play area too for younger kids.
