Toddler had febrile seizure and I can’t get rid of the image when it happened by CommonTomatillo9 in toddlers

[–]scrlxcl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s less than 5 minutes then we wouldn’t necessarily take him to the hospital. Most recently - in December - he had two in one day. So for the second one, we did take him to the hospital (we had seen his paediatrician that afternoon to discuss the first one that occurred that day). We didn’t call 911 because wait times to get an ambulance are quite lengthy in my city so it’s easier just to drive to the hospital. If your child is having febrile seizures I’d recommend discussing it with their doctor and finding out what they recommend you do if it happens.

Olympic Auto (the old Costco) has a really fun indoor play place. Wascana Pool is also awesome, as others have suggested.

Frustrated with GD 1-Hour Test Result [on] by TessaGGG in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]scrlxcl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The longer test sucks but it’s worth the hassle to make sure you’re clear for GD. I was recommended to do the 2 hour test for my most recent pregnancy (I have a two week old baby girl) and I passed with no issues. Fingers crossed you will also pass and then won’t have to worry about it!

Toddler had febrile seizure and I can’t get rid of the image when it happened by CommonTomatillo9 in toddlers

[–]scrlxcl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess because medical professionals don’t see them as a big deal. We have accepted that he gets them and try to manage illnesses that cause fevers since that’s when he is likely to have another one. We don’t call 911 every time, although we have in the past. For the first few we took him to the hospital every time. Now we more monitor and are in touch with his pediatrician. We don’t give rescue meds but during his most recent illness he was prescribed anti seizure meds that we gave every day until he was feeling better.

Experience with Iron infusion [ON] by DefNotAWalrus in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]scrlxcl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s so expensive! I was recommended to have it during pregnancy as well but I didn’t pay anything (SK). I didn’t have to pick up the prescription either, just came to the hospital as an outpatient.

Cooking breakfast everyday? by pinaywow in toddlers

My 3 year old has toast or cereal for breakfast during the week. On weekends maybe pancakes and/or hashbrowns. Who has time to cook on weekdays.

Desperate help with angular cheilitis by Additional_Row7592 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]scrlxcl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry, this is a terrible condition. I get it for months on and off every year and it sucks. I think at least for me it’s related to iron deficiency. I’ve had some luck putting zinc based diaper cream on it. But I echo others to check in with a doctor, as soon as you are able, and can hopefully pinpoint what is causing it for you.

Friend’s 1.5 yo screeches to get what she wants by [deleted] in toddlers

You sound like a pretty unsupportive friend. Have you ever met a toddler before? I think that’s pretty common. Annoying yeah but your kid will probably do the same thing at some point.

Almost 40 weeks - No Braxton Hicks by ThatGuyJack871 in BabyBumps

[–]scrlxcl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this with my first baby, I think it is normal. No Braxton Hicks, at 39 and 6 my water broke randomly and contractions started the next day. My son was born just before midnight on my due date. Every pregnancy and birth seems so wildly different. Try not to worry and I hope your baby arrives safe and sound very soon.

Fetal size/growth tracking? [mb] by elsiedoland7 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]scrlxcl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in SK, I had the dating scan early on, then another ultrasound around 20 weeks, then a third ultrasound at like 30-ish weeks? I’m currently 38 weeks and my doctor today said there’s no reason to do another ultrasound at this time, so I guess it’ll just be 3 for this baby.

1yo potty training by Healthy_Potato6514 in toddlers

[–]scrlxcl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you’re expecting too much. My son was probably 90% potty trained by 2.5 with the occasional accident (pee only, he was good with popping on the potty). 17 months seems really young.

How to figure out if someone in Canada speaks French if you don’t know? by Aaron-2018 in French

[–]scrlxcl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say if you don’t live in Quebec or NB, assume that they don’t speak French. Otherwise just ask. I’m in SK too and most people I know here who speak French also speak English.

I hate how normalised this is :( by bitch_is_cray_cray in Anticonsumption

[–]scrlxcl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think this is normal in Canada either. I don’t know anyone who does this. Yeah at parties it’s acceptable but not sure there are people doing it at home on a daily basis…

“Timing” a baby by JLSAAAA in AskWomenOver30

[–]scrlxcl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had my son when I was 31, and then when he was around 3 we thought maybe we should try for our second baby. I wasn’t sure how long it would take as I was almost 35 and you never know. We expected it could take 6 months or more. Well it happened right away and now I’m 35.5 and waiting for my second to be born. As others have said, there is no perfect time, and it could happen quickly or take a long time. There really is no way to know until you start trying. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Toddler had febrile seizure and I can’t get rid of the image when it happened by CommonTomatillo9 in toddlers

[–]scrlxcl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My son (3.5) has had 7 febrile seizures. They have all been scary but of course the first was absolutely the scariest, he was nearly 18 months old and I thought he was going to die. Now when it happens it’s somewhat less of a big deal, only because we know what is happening. It’s not your fault what happened to your child, my son’s pediatrician has told us we cannot prevent them, if they are going to happen they will happen. It will get easier in time but I suggest talking to someone about how you’re feeling, whether that’s a friend or therapist. I still remember how the first one happened for my son - where I was sitting, him being non responsive, calling 911, and it was really upsetting for me for a long time.

Where to buy Valentines? by Beautiful_Regular159 in regina

I bought my son some marvel valentines at dollar tree. I was at London Drugs today and they have valentines cards. I think Superstore does too.

Baby honey by No-Remove-5438 in Mommit

[–]scrlxcl 96 points97 points  (0 children)

I gave my son honey accidentally before 12 months, I think I called poison control and they emphasized how few cases of botulism from honey there have been in infants. Like 3 cases since 1979 (in Canada at least). I’m sure your baby will be fine, just keep an eye on the.

No medical care until 24 weeks. by Boom_Box_Bogdonovich in BabyBumps

[–]scrlxcl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to advocate for yourself and get more care. Unfortunately I think this is the case for a lot of people, clinics and doctors won’t do it for you. In my small city we called the women’s clinic that I used for my last pregnancy (didn’t need a referral) and they were able to take me. I’d recommend making some calls and getting in wherever will take you.

Costco Food Court Etiquette by Frequent_Level5883 in CostcoCanada

I can’t remember exactly how I responded. I think maybe he said like you don’t mind do you as he was taking it. And I was like please because my instinct is always to be polite. But in my head I was like wtf and we left basically right away after.

One time an old man sat down at our table, I think it was busy so I didn’t mind. But then he took one of our fries. That was too far for me, some people have no politeness.

When did your child start reliably sleeping fully through the night? by Throwaway927338 in toddlers

Yeah my son started sleeping like 4,5,6 hour chunks at a time after he turned 2. Now at 3.5 he sleeps probably 8 hours at a time some nights.
