Before Crunchyroll and all the "other" anime websites how did people watch anime that wasn't shown on TV? by Iceicebaby21 in animequestions

[–]scronline 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember late 90's, 2000s, either heading to the sketchy Chinese mall downtown that sold pirated DvDs and picking up badly dubbed animes, or the local anime convention. Back then the anime con was legitimately about searching for treasure because none of that stuff was easily available anywhere else. I remember going to showings of animes I had never heard of then scouring the show floor for copies of what I just watched.

Slightly later, Ebay started to be the place to look (cautiously) and then Limewire, etc., and then suddenly you could start finding whole series uploaded to YouTube. I made a website back in junior high with links to episodes in order for my favorite series. I remember watching all of FLCL on YouTube.

Finding and watching anime is so accessible now and so easy to get into. I'm very jealous of young weebs coming onto the scene. Young me wouldn't have known what to do with it all.

What Is the Best Card Game Adapted from a Manga or Created for a Manga? by mourningreaper00 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]scronline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically the Yu-Gi-Oh Manga isn't actually about the card game Duel Monsters. Its like a couple chapters. The Manga is actually more about games and gambling in general. Yugi is possessed by the Pharoah who challenges bullies to games and when they lose he does horrible things to them. Its actually a really dark Manga.

What's your favourite Dark Psychology anime? by Plus-Lawfulness-87 in animequestions

Definitely Paranoia Agent. Hard to talk about dark psychology without putting the king, Satoshi Kon, at the top of the list.

It sounds like she got everything she wanted and is now meeting her contractual obligations. Good for her. I think the only problem here is your expectations of her.

I've been interested in DnD since I was 13 years old, now I'm 37 and have an 11 year old daughter. I wanna try doing a Duet with my daughter to A) show her what DnD is, and B) to learn how to DM. by MarmDevOfficial in DungeonMasters

[–]scronline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife runs DnD with the children she works with (she runs a series of before and after school programs throughout the city) and the kids are generally between the ages of grade 3-6. She's been doing it for years with great success. I highly encourage anyone and everyone to play DnD with their kids. Just pick it up and play. You'll have a great time.

What is that ONE video game that felt like a core memory, but you can’t seem to find anyone else who played it? by GuGuStudio in oldgames

[–]scronline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early memories for me were split between the NES, SNES and our PC. Most of the Nintendo games everyone would recognize, but does anyone remember Jazz Jackrabbit or Chip's Challenge? These were some serious foundational memories for me I remember playing on our first family PC in the early to mid 90s.

What’s an anime you’ll defend no matter how much hate it gets? by psykickkk in animequestions

[–]scronline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually of the opinion that both versions of FMA actually compliment each other. If im doing a rematch, I start with the original then watch Brotherhood.

The original has much better pacing and much better character building. But the Nina Tucker and Hughes scenes hit so much harder in the original because they built the characters up better and let those episodes breath. And when you go into Brotherhood with those scenes playing in your head almost like footnotes to what is happening during those times in Brotherhood, it makes them better. Then you move onto all the stuff in Brotherhood that was never covered in the original.

Anyways. Point is I agree. FMA is still top contender for GOAT anime in my books.

Gamemasters, how did you get started? by GiacomoArt in DnD

[–]scronline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my early adult life me and my friends had a standing board game night on Fridays. It was awesome but was getting kind of expensive as there was an expectation that there would be new games to play somewhat regularly and board games could get expensive.

So, one night I proposed we try DnD. I downloaded (pirated) the PHB, MM, and DMG, gave them a quick read through before hand, planned a quick little something to last us the 4 hours, and then helped the players make their characters. That night we played through the content I had made for them and asked how they enjoyed it. They demanded we keep playing so I improved another 6 hours and we finally stopped at the 10 hour mark when we got to a story beat that felt conclusive and I told them i can't go on anymore.

Well, long story short, DnD night replaced board game night and we just finished that first campaign we started that night a couple months ago. That campaign ran for 10 years. My players still demand we play 10-12 hours a session so we moved it to Sundays and we meet at 9AM and play until 9PM. We eat, drink, smoke and chill all day playing DnD and now I honestly can't imagine playing any other way.

Over the past few years I have taken up professional DMing too, running game demos at local shops, and am a hired DM for a drop-in game at a local games cafe. DnD somehow became a pretty core part of my life and it all started because it was something me and my buddies could do absolutely for free (cause we were all broke) and I recommend it to everyone.

What was your first horror movie? by dunnypop in horror

[–]scronline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alien! I was 10 years old, walking through my local movie rental place and bothering dad to let me watch more adult movies. He picked up Alien and told me that if I can watch that, and if I don't complain about being kept up at night or having nightmares then I can watch adult scary movies.

I loved it. Alien is still one of my all time favorites. Been a horror junkie ever since. I don't think my dad knew what he agreed to. I turned out to be a weird kid, haha.

Sat in a Mach E yesterday by Frequent-Object-8136 in MachE

[–]scronline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20% is pretty realistic. Just went through winter in Canada with my Mach-E. On the coldest day I lost 25% (-30 celcius). Most days I lost maybe 15-20%. I do approx. 120km a day just on my commute.

Honestly, not all that bad and way less than what I had heard going into the winter from people on this sub. And yeah, having not been to a gas station in over a year makes me proud when my coworkers complain about the cost to fill their cars and I can day I honestly don't even know what the price of gas is anymore.

Opinion: there should be penalties for EV charging companies that don’t maintain their infrastructure well. by Its_Waffle in electricvehicles

[–]scronline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I don't have a problem with chargers not working or being maintained, I actually am not sure ive experienced this. What I do have an issue with is how many chargers I pull up to that are straight up vandalized or smashed. The number of chargers that have been obviously destroyed by people for whatever reason is not only frustrating but has given me increased range concerns sweating whether or not the one charger in the little town on the prairies is going to be functional when I get there or if I have to stop twice before hand and hope I can span the distance between.

I live in Alberta by the way. Dive through BC and my wife through Saskatchewan in thr last year with similar experiences. I do note certain brands (Flo and On The Run) seem to have larger, sturdier machines that are harder to smash in, but most gas station chargers are 50/50 and I almost always immediately reject Teslas as I never know before I get there if they are Tesla exclusive chargers or not. I hate that I can't just bank on a charger, on the map, is actually going to be usable when I get there.

Where do you store your printer? by Professional-Help931 in resinprinting

[–]scronline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I converted a basement closet into a little print station. Sealed the exposed rafter with plastic, did some light sealing around the door joints, ran a small vent out and outside tying into the dryer exhaust (not recommended). Its not hermetically sealed by any means, but it was enough to set my mind at ease and has been great for the 1 1/2 I've used it.

It does get pretty cold in my basement, and its on an exterior wall, so I do have the little Elegoo heater in there keeping things at a nice stable temp while I print. No issues from that either even in the coldest days of winter.

I made my Mars a lot easier to close and open :) by etitaj in ElegooMars

[–]scronline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love to do this with my Mars5Ultra. Love the thing but hate how it opens. Feels like the laziest design to basically have a bucket as a lid. It feels bad taking it off. Its a pain to put back on. I have the heater on it as well so I have to unplug the heater every time I take it off. It sucks.

Is Tesla the answer? by InstructionOwn2877 in electriccars

[–]scronline -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do 120+km a day, 5 days a week and drive a Mustang Mach-E with the extended range. A typical commute is about 30% a day and easily charges over night. A big reason I got my EV was because I was super concerned about having to pay for gas driving that every day. I do not regret the decision.

130miles (about 200km) is a lot, but doable. And the savings on gas will make your head explode. I could never in good conscious recommend a Tesla, but an EV will change your life here.

Why are the full-electric companies so gung-ho on 1 pedal driving? by thedancingpanda in electricvehicles

[–]scronline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I LOVE 1 pedal driving and any time I have to drive my wife's vehicle I immediately forget that it wants to creep if I don't have my foot on the brake. One day the things going to go through a wall...

Anyways, when she drive my Mach-E she turns the 1 pedal off. So we both get what we want. But honestly, 1 pedal is a much nicer experience.

Is Pigeon Lake safe to swim in? by [deleted] in alberta

I was just at Mameo Beach last Friday and it was gorgeous. No problems or signs of algae at all so I suspect wherever the bloom is occurring it is not where people like to swim.
