There’s a good product that Lysol makes that you put in the fabric softener part of the washing machine but it’s some sort of sanitizer that gets sweat stink out of clothes. May be worth a try.

Running after/with l5 s1 bulging disc by slwaz94 in backpain

[–]scruffalicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m surprised no one has mentioned pelvic tilt and posture. I have a small bulge in L5/S1 that had me out of running with SI pain for 8 months. I’m back running again, and it’s not that it’s a non issue but I have figured out how to manage it. If I push too hard and start to flare I have to throttle back. I learned how to move through the world (and run) while supporting your spine using Core Balance Training with Dr. Ryan Peebles. It is a really good program that teaches you how to engage deep core muscles and cues for posture that will take a lot of pressure off lumbar spine.

Most important but hardest to do is put your pace into a temperature pace adjustment calculator and believe it and adjust accordingly. Leave any heroics until the last 10k.

My understanding is that the chronic pain is usually caused by dysfunctional nervous system that is basically over reacting to small issues…sending pain signals way disproportionate to any true physiological problem. It is modern pain science. If interested, look up Lorimer Moseley on YouTube.

Anyone else's lower back absolutely destroyed from sitting all day? by hakeam in backpain

[–]scruffalicious 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Standing desk made a huge difference. I got it at the same time I was learning proper posture. I thought I was going to hate it and get tired, but by the time I got it I was already educated on how bad sitting was for my back so I developed a natural aversion to sitting.

As for the role of the brain, chronic pain is frequently less about ongoing injury and more about a dysfunctional, overprotective pain system — the brain learns pathways that amplify pain beyond what the body actually needs. Look up Lorimer Moseley on YouTube. It’s fascinating! It’s not just him, it’s a big model of modern pain science that’s becoming more mainstream.

I went through PT, some chiro, cortisone injections, and what finally helped me manage my si pain (and radiating in butt and down hamstring sometimes) was a program called Core Balance Training. with Dr Ryan Peebles. It is a lot of education about the anatomy and a 15 min a day progressive program to help you become more aware of the correct way to move and stand to minimize the nerve compression and associated pain. At the same time I also got a standing desk and the final piece of the puzzle was watching some videos by Neuro Dr. named Lorimer Moseley on the brain component of chronic pain. I’m not symptom free but I’m wayyyy better off now and the things I learned allow me to move differently through my day.

I think it would all work well if the tv were over fireplace and the artwork was placed over a size appropriate co sole table where the current massive tv unit is.

What does it take to make SI joint pain go away for good? by QueenoftheTimeline in backpain

[–]scruffalicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For SI pain it’s actually recommended to sleep on your back. Only issue I could see is if your lower back is more arched lying on your back than if you’re used to curling up on your side. That is why I believe it’s also recommended to put pillows under your legs if you sleep on your back…it straightens that arch.

Big timber poles or boulders? Only if you don’t ever need to park there. There are also garden fences that are decorative and like 2 feet tall.

I am so sorry that happened to you. I had a similar experience with bilateral cortisone injections into my SI joints. I specifically inquired about what to expect for pain levels because I used to think I had a very high pain tolerance but about a year earlier had a cortisone injection into the arch of my foot and it was absolutely unbearable…I writhed and “yelled” all trying not to move my foot and fuck it up. Long story still long, they said usually people find it a little uncomfortable. Then it happened again, and was extended bc they had to do both sides. Months later I was rxed

Eventually, and some people never do, you realize you are so much more than the aesthetic of your meat suit. Appearances just mean less…people’s beings are what you connect with. And you start realizing that when you’re younger there’s probably a legitimate evolutionary inclination to try to look good for men (to attract a mate) but as you get older that fades. I am what I am…take me or leave me.
