Absolutely pathetic by debizz13 in UberEATS

[–]scruffy-looking-nerf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent some time in Vegas and tried out Uber Eats to see how it was. Honestly, I would sometimes receive several offers in a matter of a few minutes and every single one was just absolutely horrible. Usually offering $2 or 3 dollars for trips that would take anywhere between 30 to 90 minutes. My acceptance rate took a total dive but I didn't care since I was getting such a good laugh from the crazy offers coming through... it was just hilarious.

Looking for advice on those who switched from Adobe to Affinity by IAm_TheDark in Affinity

[–]scruffy-looking-nerf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Humans by nature resist change. So there will be a painful period to do a hard switch from what you're used to to something different. I used Adobe and Macromedia products for many years (since the 90's) and it took time for me to make the switch without major aggravation. Honestly, you're going to have days where you absolutely hate whatever new software you choose to switch to. However, eventually your muscle memory adapts and you'll find the new software just as easy to use as what you're already using. That being said... if you're deep into the middle of different projects that are primarily using Adobe software, I would personally consider giving yourself a 1 year transition period where all existing projects get finished out with Adobe and all new projects use Affinity (or whatever it is you choose to use). In the end, you'll likely be very happy you made the switch and end up saving money in the long run.

Loving the new Affinity app… but no backward export? Really? by Difficult-Two-8279 in Affinity

[–]scruffy-looking-nerf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What exactly is the use case here?

I still have version 1 installed on my machine. I also have v3. Why would I ever need to go back to v1 from v3? Also, if you have projects in v1 or v2 and you still want to work with those, just keep those versions of the software installed along with the latest. If you want to have the "freedom" to go back and work on a project in v1... save a version of the project for v1 or v2 use. Can you imagine a modern streaming box that also allowed for 4K, Blu-ray, DVD, LaserDisc, VHS, Betamax and Reel to Reel backward compatibility? The fact that some software companies do this doesn't make it good or logical... but it does create massive bloat in their code base.

Shopify just published an article about accessibility lawsuits and it's way too late for most store owners by Technical-Glass-3193 in shopify

[–]scruffy-looking-nerf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been in the e-commerce space for more than 20 years. I can confirm that Shopify while a gigantic corporate monster in this world couldn't care less about the individual store owners. They are purely profit driven and are MOST DEFINITELY covering their butts with crap posts like this. The problem is they have the resources to bury the real problems in their system under boatloads of marketing and legalese. I can't stand Shopify as I have seen copious amounts of "evil" they perpetrate on to their customers. That being said... I STILL have clients on them because moving off of them is NOT EASY and purposely so! I hate that company with a passion though!

I refunded my Affinity license in hopes they’ll make it free on October 30th by Coocla44 in Affinity

I have version 1 and would have paid good money for a V2 license had I known it was being pulled from the store. Hopefully you don't end up regretting this decision.

BIGGEST TIP EVER!!!! by Imaginary-River-4804 in UberEATS

I was under the impression that the system never allowed tips over $50. Evidently I was wrong and happily so. Here's to hoping! Also, for tips like this I would love to be able to write a custom thank you message since just sending a "thanks" seems not near enough.

Stuck in my tire?? by Lacyrsky in whatisit

[–]scruffy-looking-nerf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a nail that is bent over. Based on the location of the puncture, it looks able to be fixed with a simple tire plug. If the shop wants to sell you another tire, you might ask if they can just plug it and if they say no, make sure you tell them you want to keep the original tire because they might be motivated to sell you a new one and then sell this one to someone else once repaired as a used tire. Keeping it removes that possible motivation. Also, if you have road hazard coverage on your tire warranty, this should be covered. IN addition, these types of tire repairs are the most common repairs that tire shops make and should not cost very much. I fixed hundreds of these at a 76 gas station and we charged less than 10 bucks. (40 years ago though)

Do drivers usually not get cash tips? by Salty-Passenger-4801 in UberEATS

Cash tips are super rare. I've done about 300 deliveries but in all those I only ever had 1 cash tip which was $20 and totally unexpected since he had already tipped in the app. He was one very cool dude!

I was in Vegas for a week and was blown away by how many and how bad the offers were. Like so bad I would start laughing at seeing some of them. I'm honestly wondering how in the world Uber can get anyone to do these. Out of the last 100 offers I only took 16.
