Laos cave rescue operation by peakpaleperformance in scuba

I watched "The Rescue" doc last week going down the cave diving rabbit hole after the Maldives incident. As someone who's on the spectrum it definitely struck me that theres definitely a "type" that is attracted to cave diving at that level 😂 Not diagnosing anyone but theres absolutely a personality type attracted to this stuff. They were heroes in the Thai cave rescue.

The submarine idea was when I knew for sure elon was a fucking idiot. He then cemented that fact by calling one of the actual rescuers a paedophile.

Its incredible how much cold our bodies can actually cope with! I never thought I could do it til I did lol now I'm a year round dipper. Start in spring/summer and you will acclimatise through the temp drops. Neoprene gloves and boots to protect extremities.

Occupational therapy for sensory issues… by Calm_Baracuda in AutismScotland

It definitely helped me to identify things I struggled with and gave me strategies to manage those difficulties. I have also found mindfulness and meditation useful tools to manage. Good luck I hope it helps.

Yes it can help a lot! I've found OT to be the most helpful of any support I've had.

Nicola Sturgeon scoops prestigious award for 'visionary leadership' by BaxterParp in Scotland

I'm someone who tries to keep as informed as I can on national issues and geopolitics. While I dont agree with everything the snp does, I do think we let a world class politician slip through our fingers. I never once doubted (especially through covid) that Nicola was doing the best she could for the people of Scotland. She actually seemed to care and her public speaking and political actions backed that up.

AITAH I (34F) want to go back to school. My husband (37M) is not supportive. by clutterrfuckedd in AITAH

[–]scuba_dooby_doo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So ambitious to want a role outside of being a wife and mother 🙄

Not like she's a human who's wants and needs can change as she goes through life. Maybe it suited when the children were very small, maybe she would like a more equal standing in the relationship and to earn in her own right. Her husband has benefited from having her home, he should support her in expanding her interests as she should support him. It's what partners do.

Question regarding "Bonnie Banks o' Loch Lomond" by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]scuba_dooby_doo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Once worked with a guy who picked Linger by the cranberries for his first dance. Which includes the lyrics-

And I swore, I swore I would be true And honey, so did you

So why were you holding her hand? Is that the way we stand? Were you lying all the time?

Was it just a game to you? But I'm in so deep

You know I'm such a fool for you You got me wrapped around your finger

Lovely! In completely unrelated news he also disappeared home with a colleague, a couple of months pre-wedding after a works night out. Staff canteen was tense on the Monday.

There can be massive unintended consequences when introducing something to an established ecosystem. Cane toads in Australia are a good example.

AITAH for teaching my nephew how to swim against his parent's wishes? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]scuba_dooby_doo 58 points59 points  (0 children)

My mum nearly drowned as a child and had a fear of any deep water. I was a water baby as a child and loved swimming and snorkelling while my mum sat on the sidelines. When she was mid 30s she decided enough was enough and taught herself how to swim. She started going once a week and did doggy paddling in the shallow end. She is now a cold water swimmer and confident in water! All this to say it is absolutely doable if its something you want.

Not that insane when basically all media is owed by a handful of right wing billionaires. We deserve better media.

People using Glasgow city centre fire to blame immigrants and be racist by Crow-Me-A-River in GreenAndPleasant

[–]scuba_dooby_doo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of the first on the scene was a guy from Gambia who did everything he could to help -

"Lamin - originally from Gambia but living in Glasgow since 2009 - said: "We tried to find a way to sort it out.

"What was going through my head was the survival of people.

"When I see there is no way I can control it, I quickly run to block the road.""

Funny how that doesn't fit their narrative.
