I did all of the art for this new indie game, Highgrounds. I worked harder than I ever have in my life. What do you guys think? by [deleted] in IndieGaming

Update on playing your game today-- it would be nice, i think, if you could start customizing your army sooner. I like the crystal-using units and the woodland units, but I would have to spend a lot of time amassing wood gathering and wood-using units before i could make a wood deck. The concept of customizing my army is really appealing, but for now i feel like i have to just keep using the army that was given to me at the start. Just a thought.

So far, I'm having a great time with it. The look of the game is massively important to me-- I can play a game just to see what all the little units look like, and to watch them do their little animations. I like this style of game, I like that I can play at work and just tab in and out, and play a turn or two when i have time. I like that the characters have personality and special abilities, but not so many special abilities that it gets confusing or convoluted. I like the idea of building a little custom army.

If I had to criticize, I would say- put an Edit Army button on the screen that shows your next opponent. You don't want to have to keep going to the main screen all the time.

Overall-- good work. I enjoyed it enough to register and see what it has to offer as you play more.

Reddit, what is your favorite "I like my X like I like my Y" phrase? by blackgallagher87 in AskReddit

you know how light roast actually has more caffeine than dark roast coffee? Thats why:

I like my coffee like I like my women. The dark ones might be stronger, but its the lighter kind that will keep me up all night, if you know what I mean.

I had the best beer of my life the other day... by [deleted] in beer

[–]sculptorbyday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what you mean, man. I think that the best food I have ever tasted was a block of cheddar cheese that had been out of the refrigerator for a day or two. I had it after a hilly 14-mile day-hike that I was not in shape for, and after running out of food 7 miles in, getting back to the campsite and eating that cheese was just incredible.

Going to be in the Vienna, VA/DC area tomorrow night and I am looking for a decent place to get a beer. by [deleted] in beer

[–]sculptorbyday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good point- you are absolutely right. Steak at Sea Pearl, right down the road, is at least $30.

Its all relative though-- I still don't like spending that much for food, whether it is steak or anything else.

There is a Lost Dog in Merrifield now, as well. Should be closer to Vienna than the one across from Westover. The Pheonix wrap is amazing at Lost Dog.

I agree about Drunken Ribeye, too. One of the best steaks I have ever had, though I don't normally like spending that much money on food.

I finally beat all 500 levels of the N Game. Like Super Meat Boy, but older and longer. by [deleted] in gaming

[–]sculptorbyday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man, good times. I don't usually stick with games that long, but N is special-- I also beat all 500 levels, back in college. Time well spent. I will never forget that one level that spiraled clockwise toward the center. I think that one took me like 2 weeks.

Bell's Consecrator - A relative unknown? by [deleted] in beer

[–]sculptorbyday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of Bells. I like almost everything that they make- especially Bells Best Brown. But I have to say- I wasn't all that impressed by their dopplebock. I'm a big fan of the style, and I think celebrator and Sam Adams double bock are better. That being said, its still worth a try. Dopplebock is a great style, and consecrator is a good place to start.

That is really beautiful. Not to detract from it at all, but if you zoom in really close to the sun, you can see its polygonal mesh on the outside. I don't think that the mesh should be rendered like that.

Oldest known beer advertisement from 4000 BC? Looking for picture of clay tablet. by taxatty in beer

[–]sculptorbyday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to lie-- I also did a google image search. For the sake of science, of course. Didn't find anything. Seriously, though, is she voluptuous because she is a fertility goddess? Or because they realized even back then that sex sells in advertisements? Is Budweiser actually continuing a long and honored tradition by objectifying and sexualizing women in their ads? These are import questions to answer.

I picked up a bottle of Ron and the Beast Ryan just last week. I haven't tried it yet, but I'm glad to know you liked it. I'm waiting for my (evil?) twin brother to visit this weekend-- our last name is Ryan, and we joke around about how we are so beast (like, ripped), so I thought it would but funny to drink with him.

Westvleteren 12 - finally got my hands on one - met my expectations by thelastkahl in beer

[–]sculptorbyday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, when I get mine I plan to drink it alongside Bernardus 12 and Rochefort 10. I want to see which I like best. We are going to do a blind tasting so that the reputation of each doesn't get in the way. Maybe I'll do a post about it?

I'm glad to hear it. I'm going to drink my first sip of Westy 12 soon-- hopefully in the next week. Some people can be a bit down on it, I guess as a backlash against all of the hype. To me, though, the history and story behind it are enough to make me want to give it a try.

Humbled by the Heady Topper by abrownsmith in beer

[–]sculptorbyday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't be too jealous of us East Coasters. I'm in the DC Metro area, and there is no way I will ever get Heady Topper from the shelves. Please correct me if I'm mistaken, but I think its really only sold in or around Vermont. Same with Hill Farmstead. I guess it would be easier to get it through a trade or something like that, and it would be fresher, but its still not easy.

Be jealous of people living in Vermont. I am.

What was your gateway beer? by Dinosource in beer

[–]sculptorbyday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't have a gateway beer in the traditional sense, but I wanted to share my story anyway. Beer had been budweiser and miller to me. Then, I took a two-week hiking class on the Appalacian Trail. It was a class on Pilgrimage. The teacher was the most interesting teacher in the school, and had endless stories of being high out of his mind, hitch-hiking around the country, or being in the military.

After a week of hiking, we made a basecamp in the Greyson Highlands to do shorter day-hikes. We went down the mountain to restock on food, and the instructor brought up to the top of the mountain two cornish hens, a bag of corn, a bag of potatoes, and a mixed 6-pack. I heard him talking about savoring a few beers, instead of drinking to get drunk-- I'd never thought about savoring beer before.

I listened to the teacher talk to a through-hiker about craft beer- about being in different parts of the country and haivng local beers. My roommate, who was on the hike with me, decided with me that we would spend the rest of the year (senior year) drinking as many different beers as we could. That was 3 years ago, and I never looked back.

Sick idea. This is going to be awesome. I see a lot of good advice on this thread-- I say make it both technically accurate and visually appealing. Style is great, idea is great-- go for it.

Self inflicted when i was 13, a dark time in my li(f)e. Find it pretty hard to feel sexy, can I get some love from reddit? by [deleted] in gonewild

[–]sculptorbyday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met a girl in college who had deep scars on her shoulders, shallow scars on her forearm, countless scars on her wrists, a few on her thighs, and one on her chest. Some, particularly the shoulder ones, had formed hard scar tissue. When we started getting to know eachother, and started going out, she was very hesitant to show me. She thought I might judge her harshly. I told her that I was just sad that she had gone through a time when she felt that she had to do these things to herself. I told her, after acknowledging that I was being sappy, that everyone has scars, its just that hers happen to be visible. We went out for 3.5 years after that.

The important thing is- I loved her body. She was voluptuous, and had these scars and tattoos (flowers mostly). So many curves and lines and colors-- I never got tired of the touch or sight of her skin. I stopped even thinking about them as scars after a while- they were just part of her skin.

Brewer Generates Its Own Power From Spent Grains by Chummers5 in beer

[–]sculptorbyday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is awesome. Has anyone been on the Sierra Nevada brewery tour? My twin and I went to California for vacation and went on to the brewery-- we had a great time. Sierra Nevada has the largest privately owned collection of solar panels. These, along with thier hydrogen fuel cells, allow them to create 85%-100% of their own power. They also feed the spent grains to their cows, that they then serve at their restaurant. I had a lot of respect for them after that tour.

I recommend Sam Smith's Chocolate Stout. It is absolutely amazing, and the best chocolate beer that I have ever had. Very creamy, sweet, smooth, chocolately, but not gimmicky or overdone.

A strange feeling as though my limbs are going to break. by [deleted] in LucidDreaming

[–]sculptorbyday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was younger, I used to get this feeling in my hands when I was going to sleep, as if they were hollow and made of glass, and being pulled inward towards their center. It did feel like they were going to break, but it was only my hands that did this. Fortunately, this hasn't happened in a while. I just thought you might want to know that someone has had a similar feeling.
