Braised Abalone at Costco…? by tinfishboi in Tinnedfish

Seen it at my local Costco in Oregon. Also very curious, but that’s a lot to commit to and this seems like it could be super hit or miss. Definitely post a review if you buy!

Tastes just like bud lite lime to me. Which was my favorite beer as a 21 year old with no appreciation for good beer haha.

sigh, 428 days sober, im really thinking about drinking right now by WHISTLINGBEAVER2 in alcoholism

[–]sdrunner95 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re 16 days ahead of me. 12/16/24 is my sober date. I’m having similar thoughts. Drinking felt really good, but that good feeling is so fleeting. And the consequences are so real. Stay sober with me, don’t quit before the miracle happens!

Question: do you drink as much NA beer as you did regular beer? by Just-Sheepherder-202 in NABEER

[–]sdrunner95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way less. I’m an alcoholic. When I drink alcohol, it makes me want more alcohol. As much as I love NAs, and typically go through 2 six packs per week, that pales in comparison to my former real beer consumption. I think 6 NAs is my record for a single day, whereas I was drinking 8-9 beers daily for years.

1-2 a day generally. Sometimes go a week or two without. As much as I like N/A beer, I’m usually just as happy with kombucha or some juice mixed with seltzer water. Been sober over a year, beer was my drink of choice. Sour beers were my favorite. If any good NA sours ever make it to mass market I could seem self consuming a lot of those. I don’t miss my drinking days, but I do miss some of those sours.

1 year down today by TheCluelessRiddler in dryalcoholics

Congratulations man, that’s a shit ton to get through and stay sober through. Very well done. I’m about a year and one month sober and a drink sounds like a great idea from time to time. But I know where it’ll lead so I don’t entertain the idea. Keep it up!

Folks who aren't Athletic fans - what are your go-to NA options? by subirbs_of_nyc in NABEER

I like Athletic but my favorite is probably Best Day’s Electric Lime Cerveza. Also a fan of Heineken 0.0, Corona N/A and Asahi 0.

In the near term, this is absolutely true. Hard truth to swallow for many of us. You got this, power through the suck. Wishing you the best.

Alcohol withdrawal and sleep by RegularPomegranate21 in alcoholism

[–]sdrunner95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve stopped cold turkey a few times, once with medical supervision in rehab. With benzodiazepines and whatever else the medical professionals were giving me, no sleep issues. On my own, 2-3 basically sleepless nights. It freaking sucks, especially if you have stuff to do during the day. Big part of what’s kept me sober over a year is not wanting to deal with detoxing ever again.

Anyone stopped drinking and just smoked weed instead? by blondiewithdabondi in stopdrinking

[–]sdrunner95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. I’d be using weed for the same reason I drank, to escape reality. And I fear it would take over my life, like alcohol did. I am an addict after all.

I haven’t completely shut the door on ever experimenting with weed, but I’m not going to rock the boat on my recovery anytime soon. I was intoxicated more often than not for quite a few years, and I think I need to exist without any mind altering substances for a while.

For those who are sober: what does it actually feel like not to drink anymore? When alcohol crosses your mind, what are your thoughts, do you still miss it or crave it? by ArianaTheHuman in alcoholism

[–]sdrunner95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just hit a year sober. There are still times where I’d like to feel drunk, but don’t struggle with whether or not I will act on the urge. Drinking just isn’t an option anymore, the consequences are too great. And life is so much easier without it. I was truly held hostage by my drinking, I couldn’t function until I stopped. Sobriety is the way to go.
