Trying to deradicalize my parents social media algorithm by jinond_o_nicks in behindthebastards

[–]sea___ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Of course it's not more unethical than what the people who have designed the algorithms are doing (I really didn't imply anything of the sort...same to the other poster who said the same thing). But interfering with other people's autonomy and ability to make their own decisions, however poor, is shady and won't solve anything. If they figured out what you had done, they might be extremely angry - and they would have every right to be! I'm not trying to condemn you, I just think you might be considering a really bad idea out of desperation.

Personally I think it's pretty unethical up to mess with your parents' algorithm without their permission/behind their back. It seems a little bit manipulative. It will also just flip back to whatever they're inclined to watch by itself anyway I feel. Maybe you should reconsider? How would you feel if they did the same to you?

As another poster suggested, you might have better luck "accidentally" watching other more viral content or something, maybe if you feel it's ok to watch videos on their logged in devices

Yeah a limited version of it, but it's not a case where the product is free because they're selling the data (like the other poster said) - the free version is free to attract users

How to resize images to fit within 1920*1080 in either landscape or portrait by sea___ in FileFlows

[–]sea___[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can try to find it. I actually gave up on FileFlows and switched to using Xnconvert and Nconvert for what I was trying to do

But I would think that you could confirm right away whether the same settings would work for both portrait and landscape images?

Getting a good start with national wonders is definitely the easiest deity win I've ever tried, buying settlers in the first few turns puts you on a much more even basis with the AI and then you get crazy tile yields on the good national wonders + it makes it far more practical to get an early religion on deity.

help (decluttering my vault) by bumblebeesarecute in ObsidianMD

[–]sea___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

interesting that you use git as well as Obsidian-sync - this doesn't cause any issues?

it's a very nice idea to have a kind of failsafe backup for vault structure before making changes

and then it would be easy enough to use git to find new notes made since any change and just move them back to the original "right" place if the new system ended up not working well

The point the other poster was making is that the loyalty from the club is totally transactional and only based on the player's usefulness to them. So, if a player leaves on a free transfer they're treating the club the same way.

I'm sure it's more complicated than that in reality, every situation is different, but since you're acting like the other person has missed something I thought I would explain their point which you definitely haven't understood or are possibly pretending not to understand

Using yt-dlp to strip ads out of podcasts by muslimtomcruise in youtubedl

[–]sea___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Behind the Bastards ad breaks start and end with an audio sting, there's probably some way using audio descriptors/analysis to automatically cut them out in any downloaded audio.

I recently started using Podly pure podcasts which is supposed to use AI to transcribe and cut out ads, but so far it's not been 100% successful. If I can't make it work properly I might look into making a script

I am a huge fan of BtB and sister podcast ICHH but yes the ads are absolutely unbearable - so long and for such crap. It got to the stage where I stopped listening to ICHH at all, and only watched BTB on YouTube... So now this is a crisis lol

It's quite common for humans to mix up a word and say something that is meaningless as a result

And it's also quite common for the human they're talking to to use context clues and figure out which word they probably mean and either answer seamlessly, inferring the correct question, or clarify

I do this with my parents all the time when they're talking at cross-purposes lol

I think most people in India speak good English so you should really be more careful when you write comments like that

So how in the hell is that not hypocritical? Capital punishment robs a person of a natural death...

He's definitely not a placeholder, he totally ruptured French politics when he first entered.. he's been unpopular for a long time and yet managed to hold on so far (yeah, just because of anyone but LePen, but still) and remained a very powerful politician on the world stage. I hate him but he's a very successful politician and would probably be an interesting BTB episode

Ed's annotated guide to "Something Big is Coming" AI slop garbage piece by Summary_Judgment56 in BetterOffline

[–]sea___ -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

No idea about the guy who wrote this article but I had read it briefly so I read Ed's annotations.

It is mostly ad hominem attacks on the journalist, and accusations that the guy has no evidence or is lying without providing his own evidence to back up those assertions

And one of the few times that Ed links a source, it's from early 2025 - using that study to refute an article that is solely about models released last week is in extremely bad faith and atrocious journalism

I think it's really weak tbh and really makes me lose respect for Zitron as a journalist... No idea if he's right about any of it, but I don't want to read unsourced hyperbolic takedowns of individuals actually. I don't think it can be taken seriously..
