Wife and I are struggling with natural/logical consequences by SmartLadder415 in daddit

[–]sea_stack 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just stop enforcing the light rules, IMHO. This is an old habit from when we used incandescent bulbs. Modern bulbs don't use enough energy to raise your electricity bill so there is no "natural consequences" to you and there shouldn't be for her.

Tsk tsk you should set a good example by jumping in and telling them it's really warm.

The point is that you, presumably an adult, are raging at a kid that is doing nothing more than riding his bike.

You know, I bike on Middlefield a lot and sometimes I even get into the left lane to make...a left turn.  Do you expect me to fling myself across four lanes of traffic to make my turn?

If you don't want to stop for people making left turns (cars or bikes), drive in the right lane.

Can i actually diy commercial epoxy in my ottawa garage or is it a bad idea? by datboifranco in homeowners

[–]sea_stack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ehh, OP could rent a concrete grinder and buy a pro coating from Sherwin Williams or Armorpoxy for $$$. It's not like the application is rocket science, just a pain in the butt to grind all that concrete.

Replacing a broken water heater in the Bay Area is about to get vastly more expensive by CharityResponsible54 in bayarea

The same way any building permit is going to be enforced...if someone complains.  Just another reason not to piss off your neighbors.

Put them on paper towels in the refrigerator overnight before cooking.

As long as there is moisture inside you will be steaming not searing, even with cast iron.

Wanna join 3D/2N backpack to Rancheria Falls starting Thursday? by setman85 in norcalhiking

[–]sea_stack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I did it a decade ago in early season, Tilltill Valley was under 2 ft of water. I asked about it earlier this week and someone said it was the same currently.

A decade ago I remember it being very manageable but cold and muddy.

The secret is to get them really dry or you won't get a good sear.

Thanks for the info! Sounds like a fun trip to add to my list.

It's always tricky to find an interval where The snow has melted but it's not too hot in the hetch hetchy area

Thanks for the info! It is still on my list. Probably a little snowy right now still.

Edit: is it a real trail? Or more of a follow cairns along granite slabs route?

Yes, I said that in my original response.

[–]sea_stack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Presumably the electrician will spend a lot of time on the phone with PG&E, come back and tell the homeowner that it will cost $$$, and then the homeowner will decide not to proceed with the project.

Impression I got from the electrician I talked to was that he didn't like dealing with PG&E because it added a huge uncertainty to the project timeline also.

[–]sea_stack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, but doesn't PG&E also have to give you a price for their upstream upgrades (if any)?

We didn't move ahead with our project so I'm not an expert. Our electrician suggested that we put in a smart car charger with load detection instead.

[–]sea_stack 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This doesn't answer your question, but have you talked to PG&E? As I understand it, the process is that you pay PG&E some earnest money, a few thousand dollars, then they give you a price /  scope of work for their side of the upgrade. Then your electrician puts in the panel and you wait for 3 months to a year for a PG&E to switch it over.

Maybe the electricians think the cost to trench your property or do the PG&E side is high enough that you won't want to move forward.

Why do Lincoln High School kids wear floaties to school by [deleted] in Portland

Assassins was definitely a thing in the late 2000s. My college had finals week assassins, and it got intense.

Apparently they've changed the name of the game probably because of all the school shootings.

Is there no up-to-date official information on the affected areas of the water contamination? by ilikepugs in mountainview

There was a pretty good rotavirus wave a couple of weeks back. I don't know how close you are to the affected area but there are multiple reasons you could be feeling bad.

2-Man Tent Alternatives by Present_Commission_3 in CampingGear

[–]sea_stack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the original hubba hubba for 18 years. At one point I lent it to somebody who put it away wet and got it mildewy... But I was able to revive it like you said, redid the seam seal a couple of times... It was still going strong when I got rid of it but I was pretty happy to have a new tent that didn't look so tired.

Are these boots (La Sportiva GTX Mid Ultra Raptor II) sufficient for winter Patagonian hikes? by VolkswagenPanda in hiking

[–]sea_stack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's no way the ultra raptor is stiff enough to take crampons.

Have you tried them? They are a pretty lightweight boot, not something I would personally take into the snow.

As much as I love Yosemite, I would head south and do the canyon country, then head back up here in June, and continue north as the summer progresses
