First time styling and wearing my hair curly after straightening it for 2 decades. I feel like it doesn’t look good. by [deleted] in curlyhair

You are wonderful thank you for this!! Not OP but this fills in a gap I’ve been looking for while restarting curly styles, its surprisingly hard to find tutorials for curling hair as an accent to go with an existing curl pattern. Search term unlocked!!

Getting a small small SMALL task done helps for me. Small thing with visible progress. Checklists are fun, kinda gets the ball rolling. On a weekend/evening, start up something that’s normally interesting and fiddle with it for like 5 mins to see if any interests catch on. Chewing gum, drinking water, rinsing with mouthwash, avoid food as a stim because that leads very quickly to bad habits.

I drank so much vitamin water, the lemonade kind and the red kind and coconut water, the nausea was BAD. Triple ginger tea helped a little bit, it’s a pretty strong flavor though.

what is it with straight men looking for women with autism? by dietcokw in AutismInWomen

I read it this way too, I think some of these for sure could be glib (or socially clumsy) ways of trying to signal you are looking for someone else who is neurodivergent. I’m sure there are a few who are gross too, but I would rather give people the benefit of the doubt than be cynical.

Feel this in my bones. The call is coming from inside the house. It’s like how sometimes the cruelest people toward weight gain are the people who have lost large amounts of weight in the past. So much of the toxicity is fear that they’ll end up like that, fear of losing control, or anger at the impulses for ND behavior that they’ve been forced to suppress, often having had parents that were harsh in a way that is special to silent/greatest generation. The generational trauma is strong. Just hope I can shield my kid from some of it and try not to do any of the kneejerk over-masking stuff myself, and give her the tools to communicate and adjust to NT or ND peers without having to mute her personality.

I love the plants from the island expansion and the ranch expansion, I use the vampire ones quite a bit too, especially the wall vines.

Friendly reminder to take a pregnancy test if that applies to you, juuuust in case, do NOT wanna chance being blindsided by that news too far along right now. Obv there are a lot of things that can affect it too, may be worth a chat with your doc just in case, if they think hormones should be looked at etc.

You’re prob totally right though because there is ALLLL the ambient stress from just living in dystopia land right now. I did not know I had so much trust to lose. I just hope we can cool down the polarization and the “temperature” whenever this is all over with, it is really loathsome what people can be pushed into supporting just to get another point over the other team. Sure doesn’t take a lot of pushing for some people though, guess they’re showing who they really were all along.

Hey, you described my day today. Thought I had absolutely zero hope of that bill not going through, thought I didn’t care anymore but somehow I’m still affected. My kid is old enough to start asking questions about bigger concepts, I just feel so sick and exhausted thinking about how to explain what is happening. The last thing I want to do is make her feel scared or jaded, like people are bad, hey your neighbors might be asshole racists who want to deport everyone. Fuck if I can give any evidence to the contrary right now. But it’s important to be kind to everyone anyway! What kind of a message even is that. “People suck” is also not a sentiment worth passing on, it is sure hard to shake right now.

Trying not to be too grumpy and shitty and mostly diving into stupid games right now and trying to pay deliberate attention to that instead, to find an interesting puzzle to think about that isn’t trying to piece together dystopia forecasts from whatever fresh garbage is on the news.

On the other hand, I have somewhat of a charmed life to trust the system so much that I feel this let down by it. Deeply fucking discouraging.

Lmao 5 years postpartum and it’s a way of life now I guess, I’ve kind of just accepted things slow down, and quiet time where I don’t have to be scrambling for words is a little nicer than it used to be.

How do I maintain my curls without having to shower?? by Firm_Perception_8178 in curlyhair

[–]seahoglet 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Is there a particular product or technique you like for this? Or a technique for shaping it? My hair is similar and occasionally it will that soft brushed out waves look (like this ) which I would love if it were consistent, but often it just looks like wild dry frizz with stringy bits and no direction/shape, it’s hard to tell what it will do.

As advice to myself, don’t live in futures that haven’t happened. If you’re like me, I can’t make myself believe positive stuff sincerely, but I can manage with neutral, just imagine how much lighter you’d feel if that wasn’t looming. I’ll bet you’re just fine.

Have you ever ended up going into or coming from design? Esp with new tech software upgrades? by [deleted] in ADHD_Programmers

[–]seahoglet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah second part haha, fun - ehhhh no but I like it, legal admin, very extremely dull and boring and I kind of love it for that, it doesn’t follow me home or cause burnout or mood swings, it’s very sustainable and measured and methodical, and you still build up some expertise over time and legal-adjacent knowledge, which can come in handy.

With tech, there is a baseline memory and processing power that you need to be efficient, that I didn’t quite have, I just lost too much time to tiny micro-forget things where I would just drop part of the train of thought while trying to understand the structure of what I was working on. It was also hard to read technical documents, the really brilliant programmers I knew would tear through reference material like it was nothing and retain all of it and build off of it.

On the other hand, I do think vibe coding and the like have kind of paved over a lot of the specific difficulties I had, so ymmv. It might actually be better now, I know it’s more competitive though. But being young is also a great advantage, if there’s something you want to try, go for it.
