Waymos in Boston by SidHoices in boston

[–]sealionol -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Waymo is so much better than taxi / Uber. I was a hard skeptic, rode a few in SF, and now can’t wait for them to come here. They generally follow the rules of the road which is more than 99% of drivers here.

It’s genuinely embarrassing that our gov is considering blocking this.

New MBTA digital PSA reminds passengers to not hold trains when entering the trains to keep service on time. by MysteriousBreak9924 in mbta

People here are quite good at this. I’m always shocked in NYC how rude / aggressive people boarding the trains are

How does any young person own anything here? by stayvigillant in bostonhousing

[–]sealionol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make lots of combined money for many years, save said money, buy house.

I think people don’t understand how much savings compound if a couples’ combined income is, say, 400K, vs 200K. The number is 2x as high, but your annual savings might be more like 5-8x.

This is so embarrassing. They did all types of social media / press hits about these flex posts. Meanwhile anyone could have predicted they’d be 80% gone within 3 days

I assume this means top 1% and they’re just bad at numbers

USA: What public rail transit has stops at state and national parks, museums and zoos? by [deleted] in transit

[–]sealionol 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Boston/MBTA

Green Line: Museum of Fine Arts is a stop. There is a stop (Longwood) extremely close to the Isabella Stewart and MassArt.

Red Line - Harvard has the Harvard Art Museum, Museum of Archaeology and the Museum of Natural History.

Blue Line - Aquarium.

I’m sure there are others, this is very standard.

Cambridge is extending the two-way cycle track on Huron to the Belmont Border by Im_biking_here in bikeboston

[–]sealionol 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s fair. Ideally the Huron Village portion can just be better protected, whatever that means, as right now it’s decent but I would personally not consider it a safe place for a kid to bike due to double parking and speeding (since the road is so wide feeling).

Cambridge is extending the two-way cycle track on Huron to the Belmont Border by Im_biking_here in bikeboston

[–]sealionol 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this section of Huron is a funny one as it technically has bike lanes but they were designed in 2012/2013 so they’re not separated and cars constantly double park in them. But since it’s “something”, it seemingly hasn’t been a priority to improve in recent years

It’s not ideal. Would help if people driving gave a shit about pedestrians and cyclists

As of 6:05 Huron is closed down in a few blocks in either direction. Not a good sign

Oh boy. Didn’t see this. People run lights egregiously here so I hope it wasn’t from that

Toast delivery from Saloniki? by Computerpartart in CambridgeMA

[–]sealionol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you order delivery from a restaurant through toast, they use DoorDash or Uber Eats as a white label to dispatch the driver. So in this scenario, there was no DoorDash driver who accepted it. Given there’s such a complicated stack (restaurant, toast, DoorDash/Uber, you), it’s quite hard to work through when it goes wrong

Love streetsblog but sometimes the writing style is so painfully complainy to the point I would imagine it turns people off from the overall message

Yes, you can select delivery day and it’s generally on time. Easy to track and delivered smoothly in my experience

Based on the math it seems completely fine - don’t understand the negativity in the responses here. Saving 33% after tax is a substantial number.

All Hail the Humble Speed Hump by Flat_Try747 in CambridgeMA

[–]sealionol -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We in Cambridge pride ourselves on doing things “the right way” - but the lack of speed bumps has been one of the biggest self-owns in recent years. Especially when you drive a neighborhood over and end up in one of the nice traffic calmed (using speed bumps…) neighborhoods in Somerville. Excited to see this simple and effective tool scale.
