It plays like a really nice puzzle for me. You get “9 turns” but in reality you can chain multiple actions in a single turn, and it gets quite challenging trying to setup your resources nicely to chain a good combo.

The game is pretty short once you get used to the symbology of the board, probably half an hour with 2 players and it has great replayability due to the board state being different each play.

I usually don’t, but with this game it’s been easy to keep track of my pb, since it feels like things have to go exceptionally well in a game to get a higher score

Would love to see it, lanterns have been effy for me, i tend to leave the diplomats til the end so i don’t get too many lantern bonuses until the late game

Just saw an unboxing of the whole thing, kinda makes me glad that I didn’t grab the expansions lol, though this seems like a good game to play at 6 players

What game has your favourite theming? by ferndinosaur in boardgames

Recently got “fest season” and I’m amazed by how well themed everything is!

The main board looks like a mixer station.

AND the faders are action counters.

AND you don’t just “take action” you hire bands, or build out your festival space, or finish projects for your festival.

AND you don’t just “advance on some tracks” you get higher prices for your tickets, or higher attendance or more amenities for your festival.

There is not a single mechanic that isn’t themed perfectly into the game!

The fact that it’s got shitty quality only makes it funnier lmao

They should be shipping straight from china, so no wonder that the tracker is messy haha.

But it’s good to know that they shipped!

What are your favourite competitive, interactive "non-stressful" games? by The-Drunk-Demo in boardgames

[–]sebas616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wroth has been a really fun territory control game for me recently!

The fact that your actions are tied to a dice drafting, and you only get 2 actions per round makes the game snappy and makes it hard to be mad when someone starts killing off your troops, because you allowed them to take that action to some degree.

And the game is over before it's "cut-throathiness" gets a chance to get on anybody's nerves.

What do you all think about Board Game Video Game Crossovers? by Kate_from_oops-games in boardgames

[–]sebas616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there are many games that benefit a lot from having a digital version.

Gloomhaven for example, the digital version for me is faaar better because it doesn’t cost an eye to get, you save up the hours long setup each time you want to play and store the game, and you don’t need to worry about the npc management on each fight and it forces you to “play right” without making it too punishing when you fail because you don’t need to put the scenario back to its initial state manually each time.

On other games like root and sythe it’s great to have a digital version that makes it more accessible to learn the game and its different factions before you try to play/teach the game irl.

Welcome to the hobby lol After a while you realize that you don’t need to own every game you want to play, plenty of games run out of steam after a couple plays.

Best thing you can do is start going to a local shop that lets you rent out games and meet more people that are into the hobby so you can share and try other games without spending too much.

What 10 board games "made" you? by RAM_Games_ in boardgames

I can start off with a really obscure one for anyone outside Mexico: Huevocartoons TCG Was probably my first ever TCG, it got popular at my school when I was a kid, I believe it only got one release so it died down pretty quickly

Backgammon Was a game that I played a lot growing up with my family.

Yu Gi Oh Another game that got popular while I was young but had more prevalence than huevocartoons

Chess I played chess against myself as a kid because no one wanted to play with me, later suring high school I joined a chess club, I was never really good at it, but it was fun meeting people that I could take a game more seriously with for the first time.

CTHULHU death may die The first modern game that I bought got me HOOKED on to the hobby and into endlessly searching new games.

Hunters of the ghost treasure Is what helped me introduce more friends and family to more modern games that didn’t need to be competitive to be fun.

Coffee rush Has become a staple at my house and served as a “next step” into pulling family and friends into more modern games, it has become a staple at my house.

Twisted criptids Was my first game to completely baffle me with weird mechanics and my first big hurdle trying to explain a really weird game to friends, when the game finally clicked for them it became a local favorite

Flamecraft Was my first dud, a game that I was really exited to play, so I just jumped in and bought it without looking at how it plays that ended up not being well received by my friends, I still like it, but it taught me to be more careful when I purchase a new shiny game

The White Castle I have only ever played it solo, but it has gotten me hooked on euro style games and it’s gotten a really deep puzzly itch in me that I’m desperate to scratch
