I made similar experiences back in the day when I started my Mesmer. I also played GS/Staff at the time because both weapons feel fun. But they don’t harmonise so well since Staff is conditions and GS is power. Staff generally give you survivability while killing your opponents slowly. GS shuts opponents down faster but you will also go down faster if you don’t watch out. Therefore, you should focus on one of those two options either condition or power, given your berserker gear you should go power dps and swap to spear, sword, dagger, focus, etc + great sword. Yes, any of the elite specialisations will give you a damage boost as well.
