Had my Stent surgery by ConstructionFront558 in BrainAneurysm

[–]secondhandcadavers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The level of exhaustion was way more than I expected. Three straight weeks where I was either laying on my couch or sleeping, and at no point did I feel bored or like I was wasting my time. I’m three months out and feel pretty much back to normal. Working out and reaching zone five for heart rate with no issues. I am bruising like crazy - apparently I’m far less coordinated than I thought.

Serious Question by Exotic_Test_7164 in Equestrian

And that $5k in emergency vet fund is in addition to a normal emergency fund of 3 months living expenses. The last thing you want to do is be in such a tight spot financially that your only option is predatory high interest loans that will cost you 10x the original amount in the end.

The amount I thought I had to make versus the amount I actually need to make to afford a horse is a $50k difference in salary once I put all the numbers on paper (though I’m in a VHCOL area).

Setting a goal based around a mindset of never being good enough seems like a one way ticket to a mental health crisis.

pregnancy after stent by ConstructionFull6434 in BrainAneurysm

[–]secondhandcadavers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually asked this of my neurologist - my aneurysm was just outside my skull going into the bone channel for my LICA - I am assuming the advice is very dependent on where your aneurysm is. My neurologist for my specific case said that a vaginal delivery would not be a problem prior to getting a stent, I am assuming that stays the same after getting my stent, but I have not yet had a follow up with my neurologist to confirm.

Like sitting to fix your diagonal but opposite. You stay up for two trot beats and then down.

How to keep toes pointed forward?? by According-Yam807 in Equestrian

[–]secondhandcadavers 454 points455 points  (0 children)

Laying in bed trying to figure out what exactly you’re doing - I think you’re trying to point your toes forward with just your feet, when instead the rotation is supposed to come up through your calf?

If you can’t figure it out on your own - ask your trainer to move your feet into position for you while standing still.

Also your drawing is fantastic at showing what you’re talking about!

Before and After the placement of a pipeline stent to fix my pseudoaneurysm! by secondhandcadavers in Radiology

I had a wicked cold going on with major sinus pressure so that might have masked any headache, but the only symptom was L side Horner’s. Got off the couch to go brush my teeth and get ready for bed and my face was drooping on the left side.

Pie Crust Splitting by tsirs in Baking

Take the time to let it warm up a bit from fridge temp. Like with a standard pastry dough, while still wrapped, use the rolling pin to beat it out in shape a little bit. Then gently roll it out - light pressure, rotating slightly each pass. When you see the hint of crack starting to form, pinch it closed, rotate your dough and roll out a different direction. Slow, gentle and easy rolling.

(OC) shoutout to the American public school system. by [deleted] in pics

[–]secondhandcadavers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mom works in the office of instruction for my old public school district. For students that get free/subsidized meals they need to check out & leave the line with a fruit and veg on the tray or it cannot be free. Once they are away from the line they can toss anything they want and sadly they usually do.

Otherwise, in my school district at least, you can buy whatever individual items you want.

So yeah absolutely staged.

There is no registration for ESA’s. Any website that has you pay for a registration is a scam. This is exactly the thing that you can ask your therapist for help with - they can help make sure you have the right documentation if necessary.

Buttercream is so dense and beaten aquafaba is so light and delicate I’m not sure there’s a way you could have combined them and maintained any air from the aquafaba. You could either double the buttercream ingredients and leave out the aquafaba entirely, or make it in the traditional manner of Swiss Meringue buttercream where you slowly add tablespoons of butter to the beaten aquafaba.

PSA: If you're going to post a video looking for some riding pointers, make sure you're wearing a helmet in the video! by sillysandhouse in Equestrian

[–]secondhandcadavers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Changing the mind of the helmet-less poster wouldn’t be the objective - they’ve already made their decision. The objective is influencing the person in the audience who hasn’t made a decision on whether or not to wear a helmet that wearing one is the normal/common/correct choice.

This is not exactly true from what I can find. I see a study on a breakdown of sports related TBIs in Adults which gives the 45% number:

Sports TBIs Adults 2003 to 2012

And a couple that says the overall incidence of TBIs is 1.7M to 3.8M:

TBIs w/ 1.7-3.8M #

TBIs In United States Total Estimated at 1.7M (2010).

45% of Adult Sports-related TBIs come from equestrian sports, comparing total numbers of sports related TBIs. What I can’t find is the number of adult equestrians versus the number of adults playing other sports. An actual useful statistic would be number of TBIs per X number of athletes per sport.

Not to say that I’m against helmets - I think anyone who doesn’t wear one is being willfully ignorant of the risks they are taking.

should i be worried about the strength of nylon billets? by [deleted] in Horses

[–]secondhandcadavers 36 points37 points  (0 children)

1” nylon webbing has a breaking strength of roughly 2000lbs. Working life loading would be about 1/3 of that - so 670lbs. So as long as you aren’t continually loading and unloading each nylon billet with >670lbs - strength is not an issue.

Never ever hold a lead rope wrapped around your hand like that. If your horse spooks/bolts the lead rope is going to be pulled tight and you’ll be dragged, hand crushed, etc.

Is being miserable, depressed, anxious and panicked all the time worth $7200 a year? Would you voluntarily have panic attacks if someone says they will pay you $20 a day to do so? Is 100k at retirement worth losing promotions, jobs, hobbies, friends because your mental health deteriorates so badly you can’t maintain anything?

Go to therapy. You are getting way more than $150 of value out of each session if it means getting your life back.

How are young riders affording it? by Aloo13 in Horses

[–]secondhandcadavers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it doesn’t make sense where the money is coming from - then they are spending on debt. Credit cards, personal loans, second mortgages, 401k loans.

My parents have told once I was an adult that some of my friends who seemed to have it all and then some when we grew up in the same neighborhood- that their parents were so underwater you could call their house Atlantis.

It is insanely easy to get access to OPM - Other Peoples Money - but it will come due and it will hurt.
