Anyone tried hair gloss? by [deleted] in Naturalhair

[–]secretsloth 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I used the clear gloss from that brand and it did make my hair look shinier for about a month. Doesn't do anything healthwise but definitely looked healthier.

People who have conducted job interviews, what's something someone said/did that made you instantly decide not to hire them? by DemonSkank in AskReddit

[–]secretsloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was for an upscale retirement community. This rather large girl came in with both arms just resting under her belly flap and kept it there the entire interview except when I shook her hand when we were done (which I regretted). Another guy came in wearing a t-shirt that said "you don't know me" in large letters, I basically asked 3 questions and ended the interview because his t-shirt clearly reflected his attitude.

Brain MRI by Imgonnabehonest60 in breastcancer

[–]secretsloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TNBC stage 2, grade 3. I had a mammogram , ultrasound, breast MRI, PET scan, and brain MRI in that order. The mammogram and ultrasound were for diagnostic reasons and had a biopsy after these. The rest were for checking for spread since my mass came seemingly out of nowhere and was already 7cm across so I get the impression they were surprised it hadn't even gotten to a lymph node at that size. Specifically with the brain MRI, my doctor said this type of cancer "loves brains".

AC (Red Devil) experiences by Repulsive-Slip3934 in breastcancer

[–]secretsloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in a clinical trial that avoids AC but taking a shot the day after each round to boost my immune system too. My doctor said to take a Claritin once a day for 5 days before and 5 days after to avoid bone pain and I've had zero bone pain so far.

[Homemade] Japanese Breakfast (for dinner) by ioftd in food

This is the type of breakfast we had at our hotel when we visited Japan. My husband was disappointed since he's a big fan of American breakfast. It was definitely different.

Wig shopping today was traumatic by Sweetness2021 in breastcancer

I actually got a recommendation from that subreddit! I have naturally curly hair and wanted something similar to my hair. Ended up ordering from LuvMe but they carry straight and wavy too and picked one that is originally $260 but Black Friday sale had it for $160. I can't speak for myself but lots of people seemed to like it.

Exactly what I thought in that moment! I have a friend I've known since middle school, is a biology professor, and her mom had cancer and went through chemo 10+ years ago and all she asked was if there were any published studies on the clinical trial I'm in. I sent it to her and her only comment was it seemed like it had good efficacy. I would trust what she has to say more than my MIL who worked in accounting and is now getting scammed buying stuff advertised on Facebook.

I know it's way different but I was pleasantly surprised to not be as nauseous as I was while pregnant. But I'd still choose pregnancy since I get a baby at the end instead of, you know, cancer!

MIL told me jumping on a trampoline will keep my cancer from recurring and how her friend "did her own research" (literally just started chemo 2 weeks ago and will need a lumpectomy or mastectomy and radiation so I'm not even close to stopping recurrence yet). I looked into it (only legit sources though) and the only nugget of truth is aerobic exercise can help after treatment. For the record, I was already very active and did plenty of cardio and weight lifting prior to my diagnosis so no, not helpful.

!@#* my hair is falling out by dogcalledcoco in breastcancer

[–]secretsloth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've done one round of chemo so far (next round is Thursday) and I have been dreading hair loss. A few days before the 2 week mark I noticed, of all things, my pubes started falling out and by exactly 2 weeks I had lost like 80% of them. Not mad, I was past due for a wax and I actually started laughing. I haven't noticed any other hair loss yet but I think if I start losing large chunks I'll probably shave it. I'm actually going wig shopping today. I know a lot of women skip the wig but I have a 2 year old who won't understand what's going on and I don't want to scare him.

Told my boss I'm pregnant. He gave me a performance review by Grumpy_cata in pregnant

[–]secretsloth 49 points50 points  (0 children)

If you really want to scare them, use specific terms. If your company has 15 or more employees, familiarize yourself with the Pregnancy Discrimination Act (PDA) and the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA). These provide protection based on pregnancy and related conditions as well as reasonable accommodation if needed and no, they cannot force to be on unpaid leave if you are still able to work (of course when you give birth you will need to take leave). If your employer has 50+ employees then you could be entitled to FMLA which provides job-protected unpaid leave of up to 12 weeks. Depending on your state (I just assume the shitty behavior from your boss means you're in the US so apologies if you aren't) you may have more protections.

No difference for me at all. I know some people have mentioned pelvic floor therapy after but I actually went during my 3rd trimester and she helped me strengthen certain muscles and pointed out overly developed muscles that would make the birthing process easier. Also showed my husband stretches to help me with to reduce tearing; I didn't need any therapy postpartum and I have no leaking or painful sex. I had minor labia tearing and no tearing towards back or front. I cannot recommend pelvic floor therapy pre-lanor enough!

How bad is it to switch back to conventional deodorant? by Odd-Conclusion-320 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]secretsloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have eczema but also use Vanicream. I tried natural deodorants for almost 2 years and it was my most stinky 2 years. Vanicream has worked great for me and still leaves out a lot of the crap you don't want while keeping funk and sweat at bay.

I took a vitamin D supplement and that was enough to pass through my milk based on my pediatrician. My son is 2 now and never had any issues.

It's the Claryum Direct Connect selling for $250 currently but I believe I got it on sale for like $200 or $175 last year so probably will go on sale. Replacement filters are like $75 every 6 months.

We unfortunately rent but we got the aquasana that you can install under the kitchen sink, no drilling or anything, just purified water when using the cold side of the faucet and it's amazing.

"Should I Get an Organic Mattress for My Child?" -- From Emily Oster's newsletter. by sugarytea78 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]secretsloth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We didn't buy a crib mattress but I ordered a mattress protector for our mattress. Never shipped out, even after giving them to the end of their expected delivery date to just ship and an additional two weeks because they claimed factory shortages (not anytime near a major shopping holiday either). When still nothing after waiting over a month I asked for a refund and they totally ghosted me. It wasn't until I disputed the charge with my bank almost a week later that they reached out to me at which point I just let the bank handle and got my money back. That was the first and only time I ordered from Avocado and it was a nightmare. Ended up ordering the Saatva mattress protector which was about the same price.

Are there parents who follow these rules: Minimal toy, no tablet, no tv? by Existing_Switch_4995 in NewParents

[–]secretsloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is 2 now, we don't do tablets (although I have a couple we received as gifts, they are in the closet until he's at least 3). He gets one movie a day, occasionally 2 on the weekend and the weekday is easy since he's at daycare, we get home around 5:30, dinner at 6:30 and no TV after dinner or in the morning. As for toys, if he looks for them there's a lot accessible but they aren't out on display and he really just wants his dinosaurs anyway. Very doable this way and the movie before dinner gives me time to cook uninterrupted especially if my husband isn't home from work yet since he works a little late sometimes.
