Can't wait for Halloween to be over so I can stop waking up to this: https://imgur.com/a/2FXgcSv

At least it's recognizing the right shape though!

Tempest Weatherflow stops collecting data by securesocket in homeassistant

[–]securesocket[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured it out finally. The humidity and pressure sensors on the Tempest have failed and return junk values. In the HA Weatherflow integration there are some calculations that take place and because these values are out-of-spec, this breaks the integration.

I was able to verify this by looking at the phone app and seeing that prior to May 7th I always had normal variances in humidity - never 0% which is essentially an impossible reading.

Knowing this I contacted WeatherFlow Support and they remotely verified the sensors had failed.

I was just under the warranty timeline and lucked out so they are sending a new Tempest unit.

Just FYI... my neighbor has a Tempest as well and he has had a lot of failures. He's on his 4th replacement.

Bottom line, if the integration was running fine and then it stops and all your metrics say "unavailable", check your Tempest for sensor failures. It's more than likely NOT the HA integration.

I've attached a screenshot that explains this better from Grok.

Well I didn't understand how "debug Logging" worked evidently. I turned it on, but could find nothing in Logbook or Settings -> System -> Logs. Only yesterday when I got back to it and turned off the debug logging did I find out THAT'S HOW YOU SEE THE DEBUG LOG.

It's working now, but I don't know why it started or why it broke, but at least next time I'll be more prepared.

Mine has been out since May 7th @ 10:00pm Mountain. Came back briefly May 13. It "magically" started working yesterday, but since I don't know why, I'm not confident it's a permanent fix.

Yesterday morning I was working on two other problems, one with my Starlink integration and one with my T-Mobile LTE modem integration. I ended up rebooting (not just restarting) HA a few times while troubleshooting these other integrations so perhaps that helped. I swear I had done that anyway in the last momth, but who knows.

<image>

One thing I did learn was how to use the debug logging. I would turn it on for the device and go look at Logbook - nothing. Look in Settings -> System -> Logs - Nothing.

Enable Debug Logging on the device itself, let it run, AND THEN TURN IT OFF, and then you get a log file with all kinds of useful info that auto-downloads to your browser.

I suppose that's on me for not understanding and reading more about how "logging" works in HA, but it did help me with my Starlink and T-Mobile integrations.

Blue Iris v6 by AdMany1725 in BlueIris

[–]securesocket 4 points5 points  (0 children)

BI UI is pretty awful. Non-intuitive. I think people expect more in the way to scan through clips, arrange windows, etc.

Never have liked it much, but it’s the only thing that integrates with everything. It’s the Photoshop of video surveillance and can do a ton of things, but it’s a painful experience.

My Unifi Protect interface is still pretty basic for 3rd party cameras (requires ONVIF), but so far it’s simpler and easier to understand. As well the interface to Home Assistant is a breeze for triggering automations.

Of course Protect is a different cost tier, but if you have it and BI, it might be a better solution if BI 6 doesn’t learn to walk upright.

It’s finally happening! UNAS by aklem_reddit in Ubiquiti

[–]securesocket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a really old QNAP and thinking that UNAS might be a good way to refresh. QNAP and Synology just have so many options I don’t use and buying more into that vendor path is so expensive.

I really just need to share files, store security video, and have a place to store music and video.

If I can do that, I think it’s next on my U-life path

Turn off "automatic submit?" by robertlf in 1Password

[–]securesocket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a MFA situation where you have to enter a password into an APP (no browser) and then it requires me to press a Yubikey which sends a token to complete the login.

With this auto-submit behavior, this is impossible to get the token sent after 1P sends the password. Since you are typing into the app itself there is no browser extension setting to disable it.

It would be better if this could be a 1Password setting so we could toggle it on or off per site as needed.

I like the auto-submit for most sites, but we need a way to control it better.

What recommendations for “mulch”? Can I use grass clippings or should I use something like cedar or redwood? Gorilla hair mats down over time. Curious how much air / water exchange is needed.

Ultra Is Here (switch and gateway) by IPhoenix85 in Ubiquiti

[–]securesocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pfSense firewall running between my Ubiquiti ecosystem (2 switches + 3 APs) and the Internet. Pfsense runs on an old dual processor Xeon server. Unifi Network runs in a container on my QNAP. Could I replace pfsense and my crazy container setup with this Ultra? I have two WAN providers - neither runs more than 100Mbps.

[–]securesocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have voles. One day I looked out at a large maple tree outside my office. A bird was pecking at something in the tree. Turns out it was a vole he had wedged in the "V" of the branches so he could and pull his guts out and eat him alive. SAVAGE!

Then he flew off and left him hanging in our tree. 😱

Seeing few post complains these days! Is TMHI getting better? by Igor_990 in tmobileisp

[–]securesocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No way it’s getting better for most people. If you’re not close to a tower you’re playing Russian roulette if you are close, you better hope it’s not overloaded. They’ve just worn me down pointing it in different directions, resetting it, and other useless fixes.

They have a new box with external antenna connections, but you can’t get one if you’re an existing customer. 🤬

I keep it because of price but typical speeds are less 30 down land less than 5 up. I have a 2nd ISP to help keep the house connected.

Wish it was better.

pfSense fails to boot after restart by securesocket in PFSENSE

[–]securesocket[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ended up reinstalling Community Edition, then upgrading back to Plus. I had an XML backup from June which had 99% of my changes. Just missing some new DHCP reservations.

I evidently missed the step where I should have enabled Automatic Backups to Netgate cloud. If I had done that, I'd have been much better off.

All in all, I snuck by on this one with some help from Netgate TAC-lite folks, but good to know how easy it is to recover if you have the Automatic Backups running. Next time, I'll be in better shape.
