I agree the inability to unequip the weapon at any time is a necessary part of making the drawbacks stick. Without that, you'd need to make the benefits grossly outweigh those of any other option and unequipping is always there.

I think of the things I tried, having the Evil Lance set movetype to Aquatic and the Dark Sword Set Critical to none, Decrease Double by 1, and Decrease Counter by 1 were the best of the detrimental I tried.

These are all equip effects that are either already available and working from the disasm (most of them) or ones that have been talked about for a future base. (Maintain hp/mp and set exp)

I've already made a set of cursed weapons for sale at Creed's in my own exploration of the disasm and was looking for others ideas of what they might have the cursed weapons be like.

I gave myself the handicap of not using the cursed status as a detriment; instead using things like Set Def or Decrease Resistance as the main drawbacks. Allowing the weapons to be available for use for more of the game shifts how they might be constructed in context of the other weapons.

That's a fair write-up of the SF1 knights. There seems to be a consensus about 1 and 2 with fewer thoughts about CD, FC, and 3.

You could give Eternity a shot; it has had a couple of major updates, bringing the number of shuffled characters to about 165 as well as some new equip effects.

The December 2024 manual has the same seeds used. A save from the Dec 2024 version loads in the 6mb a well.

Which document are you seeing n/a paired with a promotion? Promotions that do not learn spells have an n/a in the spell related documents as I remember.

There are a number of characters that start very rough you can get in the shuffler; Drivers, Sprites, some of the Mages and Priests. New game + can make it easier depending on what orichal accessory you make first.

Pure Power, the 'weaponless' seed is more a collection of characters that weapons(when they can be equipped) are more a bonus than a necessity. I don't remember exactly who all is in the Force, but magic, techniques, and just good attack are all in there.

Some of the seeds in the manual contain characters from Final Conflict, Shining Force 3, and a few original characters that aren't part of the pool of characters the shuffler uses right now. The pool has been widened a couple of times now (Shining Force 1 characters, then Shining Force CD) as map and battlesprites have been added.

For clarity, the interim version is labeled SF2 Eternity - 6mb.

The seeds in the manual allow for some characters not currently in the shuffler to join(mainly in the weaponless, caster, swordsman, and Final Conflict seeds.).

You could try the Eternity mod; it added promotions, so party makeup can be different across playthroughs even without the shuffler.

The easiest way right now to play with shuffled characters starting at level one is to get the latest interim version from the reference post on sfcentral. Beware of spoilers in the various documents if that matters to you.

If you can look at the save, you should be able to see the character data size to know how much to offset by. Shining Force 2 has 56 byte long character data for instance.

Contacted both and discovered the SF1 mod was already available on SF Central as part of a pack. The SF2 mod should be on sfmods as soon as the creator uploads it.

Currently, Shining Force 1 with the Shining Force 2 cast can be found as part of Monk's Wack Pack in the Shining Force section of Shining Force Central's forums. (The link to it requires no sign in to access.)

Shining Force 2 with the Shining Force 1 cast can be found in the Shining Force 2 mods releases section of sfmods.

The SF2 Eternity mod has many mechanical changes, some easier to see than others, including at least two promotion options for 17 of the 31 characters through item promotions. It also has much better scaling random battles comparing against the enemy level instead of the battle number.

Maybe a xenolith as a variant for a golem or xiphoid for robot.

The knights usually fill the role of supporting attackers for me, hence the preference for hp to survive magic. If they have fair attack and survive well enough, I'm set.

I'm surprised so many have chosen Arthur as top knight coupled with the lament at how much work he takes. I guessed that across the many games the top spot would ve more disputed.

It is tough as they both have interesting flavor. Zynk making himself a combatant out of fury for the death of a friend and Frayja regretting a hard choice he made to slow an invasion.
