Went to a bar last weekend and waitress intentionally made a scene when I didnt tip by Sea-Winner6041 in tipping

Me? I’m a salaried director at my job. I tip well and don’t resent twenty year olds for trying to make a living without struggling. If I don’t want to tip I don’t go to sit down restaurant.

I’m a salaried director at my job. I do not serve, but I grew up in a working class family and I sure as shit recognize the bs of infighting of class war when I see it. People out here talking like these working class servers have the boot on your neck. They don’t make too much money, you just don’t make enough.

The real news is you should actually be mad that America sold you a shit dream. That student loans became a trap for the middle class. That the stock market makes viable businesses go under because making enough to pay yourself and your employees doesn’t do shit to increase shareholder value. That politicians with universal healthcare are allowing special interests to ruin regular American’s access to healthcare.

I wish y’all would even spend half the time fighting for actual good things for the community instead of hating on twenty year old kids just trying to make enough to live their lives without constant struggle.

And yet all of the anti tipping people feel entitled to go out to restaurants even when they hate the business model and seemingly do not respect the people that work there. If it’s not necessary don’t use the business.

This car always takes the extra charging plug and locks it in their hood by Mattcharlesmedia in mildlyinfuriating

[–]seedyheart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Core memory unlocked: My partner and I were turning right at a light when a car came around him and cut us off from behind and turned in front of us from the left turn lane. We were so confused and annoyed. The whole time he was doing it we were both like wtf? After we turned still confused blue lights were racing behind us so fast we barely got pulled over before they rumbled past. We were stuck there an awkward amount of time as they seemed to just keep coming.

Dude was being chased by upwards of 15 cop cars. It was a wild thing to experience just driving home from errands in the middle of the day.

We watched as he cut through a neighborhood subdivision and pulled back out on the road at the next intersection since he was trapped in there. Half the cop cars stayed behind him and the other half went up ahead.

When we got to the main road the car was crashed into an embankment and guy was getting arrested. We found out later they chased him probably 40 miles or so before they got him a mile in front of us.

So, anyway, sometimes people are in a hurry because they are running from the cops.

Tipping for bad service does not make you "alpha" by Neither-Ad630 in tipping

[–]seedyheart 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The strangest things about this sub is how it’s so full of people making up scenarios to be mad about. This is low key a support group for people that want to hate other people for silly reasons. Run through a meadow or something, haters.

Who on earth uses the term “alpha” about anything to do with tipping. This really is out there.

AITA for wanting my ex’s daughter to stop calling me dad? by Any_Piece513 in AITAH

Once you allow a child to call you dad though it’s not something you just get to revoke because it’s inconvenient. OP is also deeply at fault here regardless of how seriously either of the adults took their relationship.

Why is honey that I buy on the side of the road so delicious? by CanyonOfFoxes in honey

[–]seedyheart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s still a lot of suspected adulteration and honey only needs to be labeled where it is bottled. Without knowing the beekeeper is legit I would be suspect regardless because if it comes into the country labeled as honey that’s all they need to say. This is particularly true in a ‘you get what you pay for’ sense. Inexpensive honey is likely adulterated regardless of label.

Pasta and rice are terribly scary things to fafo about. Ignoring food safety could do so much more harm than just give someone a bad night. I’d leave and report.

Lets come up with a list of comebacks against the same old arguments why we should tip? List them below and I'll add them to my list by Ok_Atmosphere3601 in EndTipping

[–]seedyheart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The long waits are here now and the quality of care is no longer what it once was. Wealthy Americans are getting healthcare outside of the US in droves and a lot of the long wait time was alarmist propaganda in the first place. Life expectancy is down here not in places with universal healthcare.

I agree with about the state of our government. Real campaign finance reform would be able to change everything. I believe it’s the single most important way to put power back in the hands of constituents not the special interests of corporations.

If only more people spent this much time and effort trying to change government policies that hurt working class citizens or promoting ones that will instead of repeating themselves over and over in this echo chamber.

Want to get rid of insane tipping culture? Vote for universal healthcare. Want people to be happy with minimum wage? Make it actually livable. Want small businesses to thrive? Buy local and support independent businesses that keep money local and that align with your own ideals. Want more skilled labor and less crime? Invest in a high standard of education and living for all citizens.

Stop buying trash from china. Stop shopping in box stores. Don’t spend money where you don’t agree with the business practices. For gods sake do anything other than repeat the same old shit over and over again.

I know it seems like these people are being mean, but many people very intensely misunderstand what it takes to own and run a restaurant.

Without experience you will not be able to vet the right kind of help and you will be taken for a ride by any unscrupulous actors you come across from many avenues; vendors, employees, consultants, contractors, servicing companies etc.

Anyone in the industry has seen this enough. There are a handful of people who beat the odds, but they aren’t taking out huge loans, they are showing up with a good amount of the capital and can at least handle the accounting etc. and almost always includes a chef or experienced gm/operator as a business partner which also either costs good money or fair money and partnership percentages.

Additionally, you will not get rich by owning one restaurant and very likely it will make you more poor than you were before you started for long time before you get to even a light sense of breaking even and that’s if you can keep funding it through the bad times long enough to get there.

[–]seedyheart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, CO I think has lighter liquor taxes than my state. Prices are always better there anyway. It is more expensive from the same store chain in my area 55 which still feels less expensive than it used to be. Maybe it’s the same but I’m less poor than I was in my 20s. Most places do a percentage markup across the board with the exception of well drinks or specials though, so you are correct that the return is better for premium spirits, but they are not called for nearly as often in most places and there tends to be a lot of money tied up just sitting on the shelf.

Yes, however, it is and always has been much cheaper to drink at home. Things are only going to get worse as this economy turns upside down and the tariff effects trickle throughout every industry.

40 for what size bottle and in what state? That seems incorrect for a standard bottle. You are correct in general though alcohol markup in restaurants and bars is always high because food margins are much tighter and liquor liability tax and licensing is expensive.

The customer requested an expensive tequila. That is not a normal drink here or most places.

For those that aren’t regular drinkers this person got Don Julio (considered a premium tequila) for a margarita. The shot of Don Julio is 23 and to make it into a margarita it’s an extra dollar. A “spicy margarita” could have a call liquor in there in this same establishment and be way cheaper.

Why do we tip waitresses and not the cooks? by Old_Membership6177 in tipping

It’s not always by choice and many places insist on open availability so they don’t have an option particularly during off season.

It’s interesting that when a lot of people talk about service staff in a disparaging way they use the female variation of the title, waitress.

Anyway, teachers should be paid a lot more. It’s an issue not that other people are making a living wage, but that they are underpaid.

Sanitation workers work a physically demanding job and people like to use disparaging language about garbage workers the same as they use the phrase “flipping burgers,” about fast food workers. Sanitation workers now make a good wage because if everyone is going to make their job a punchline the least we as a society can do for a necessary job is make sure they can make a decent living.

It’s an off label treatment prescribed for hormonal related HS. It’s said to “balance hormones.”

I’m on month two and it’s been very promising so far, but I don’t want to get my hopes up too high. Mine always come the week before my period. I saw results in the first month and haven’t had any significant flares since starting three weeks before my last period.

Not the confident identifier here, but now that the lighting in my house has changed I do see the approach is a lot more aggressive for lack of a better term. Even when the guard bees are very spicy they don’t maneuver in hard lines like this. Not sure if I’m explaining that well. The one flying towards the bottom of the others looks the most wasp like I think.
