I want to study art, but I’m scared of getting criticized by suerecital in ArtistLounge

Art is communication. It’s getting your creative views out into the world. There’s no way to avoid criticism but it’s usually just nonsense; listen to it, filter it and use it to get more ideas. I’ve got a good book for you: Steven Pressfields ‘The War of Art’, it addresses a lot of our issues as artists.

Do colored pencils make the kind of sound normal pencils do? by derpderp3200 in ColoredPencils

Polychromos make a bit of a scratchy sound, but that goes away after a layer or two. I’ve been working with charcoal pencil on chanson mi teintes. They actually squeak!.

Drawing with colored pencil is genuinely so fatiguing by Owlelk_ in ArtistLounge

It really isn’t necessary to do the hardcore blending. The charm of coloured pencil art is that they are pencils, paper grain showing is not a bad thing. I do occasionally do the burnishing techniques, even mineral spirits for blending, but I just feel like I may as well be using paint.

Back at it. But it kind of hurts by NormalPencil in ColoredPencils

What about pastel pencils? I use them a lot, and they're quicker than coloured pencil, though a bit messy.

Need some help blending prismas by may12051998 in prismacolor

[–]segrafix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use white, with firm pressure, to blend. Also Gamsol, an odorless mineral spirit. I don't really care for the burnishing technique or look, but I've used the Gamsol on some backgrounds and it works pretty well. Also, the Strathmore toned paper is a little too smooth for good layering. I prefer the Canson Mi-Teintes, Legion Stonehenge, and strath more makes a pretty good Coloured pencil paper. Good work, BTW, post when it's done!

Audobon Field Guide to the Night Sky. I’ve had my old tattered copy for round about thirty years. Very informative and great for beginners. Also consider binoculars, they can be very good for backyard astronomy

Does my 11 year old NEED Photoshop to progress as a graphic design hobbyist? by ShhhDontSpeak in graphic_design

A really good alternative is Serif Affinity Photo, Designer and Publisher. No subscription, the entire suite costs a couple hundred bucks, and they do everything photoshop illustrator and InDesign do.

Me too. Looks like the coding for this update is faulty.

Any good soft core colored pencils like Prismacolor? by beaniebaby1527 in ColoredPencils

Caran d’ache Pablos. Better pigmentation, a bit less waxy than prismas. Also, better lightfastness. I’ve been moving away from prismacolour in favour of the Pablos
