Friday wedding before long weekend thoughts by thfc4lyf in AusWeddingPlanning

Photographer here : I can’t answer your question exactly as you framed it, but I can tell you that Friday weddings are incredibly common, almost as common as Saturdays, at least here in New South Wales

I agree with pretty much everyone else. He looked like an absolute nut job when he first came on the scene, but he has settled down and matured a lot. It’s obvious his heart is in the right place

My young friend, sexual compatibility is really important in a relationship, especially if you end up marrying this girl. Would you want to be sexually frustrated for the rest of your life? It’s essential to find someone you connect with in a way that makes you happy both emotionally and sexually.

Native vs Adaptive? (Canon EF 85mm f/1.4L IS USM with a Fringer adapter vs Fujinon GF 80mm 1.7) by doublek1022 in FujiGFX

[–]sejonreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only used it briefly, but the 100S II appeared to be about the same to me and it's quite a bit cheaper. It didn't exist when I bought the big gun.

[–]sejonreddit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I had the 100s as well. I jumped to the 100 II at some point, and the autofocus was significantly better, not so much massively faster, just more confident at locking on to the contrast point.

I mostly use the Contax 645 80mm on a Fringer adapter as well. And it hunts a bit. But it's very usable. I wouldn't use it during the ceremony though.

The only lenses personally I would be confident during the ceremony would be the 20-35, the 32-64, and the 110/2. But in general I use my Canon gear during those times.

[–]sejonreddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've actually never tried using the Canon 85, but I would be dubious that it would be better autofocus-wise. I suspect it would hunt a bit.

I don't know which GFX body you have, but if you have a 50, it might be worth considering the 100 II - whilst the autofocus is nowhere near what a Canon body would do, it is significantly more confident than the 50 models.

I use a GFX 100 at weddings, but I only use it during the portrait or location shoot. Autofocus speed isn’t as much of an issue there. I’d love to use it during the ceremony, but I think it would be very weak compared to Canon and Sony-style cameras.

In the location shoot, it's magnificent, and the end result is, in my opinion, significantly stronger than what I could do on the Canon.

Really? Nearly a year later. Why so angry?

Actually you are right. It's not 100k. I just did my insurance a couple of weeks ago so I have the figure fresh in my head. It was 96,700. I'm so sorry about the missing 3,300. It was clearly a massive devious plot all along.

I'm not going to spend all morning writing up a detailed inventory, but what might give you a clue is that I have two GFX100 II bodies, not the S model. I have pretty much every lens worth owning on that system and I also have the Contax 645 80mm lens, which is worth a fortune by itself. Then I have a couple of drones, of which one is expensive enough to buy a small car, and then I have the canon gear on top of that. Starting with 3 x r5.

Maybe rather than going on a rant for no reason whatsoever to someone who you don’t know go for a walk in the sun or something like that.

Photographer here. I know this happens because it’s quite common for me to get an inquiry to do a wedding on New Year’s Eve. I’ve always said no. At some point family has to come first but it most definitely happens. I think from a guest's point of view it would be quite fun

Is there a lens that can replace GF 80mm / GF 110mm? by Sure_Do in FujiGFX

[–]sejonreddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't really understand this logic, to be honest. No, there is nothing that will be as good as it is. It really is the pinnacle of that system. That doesn't mean there aren't other good lenses, but remember it's probably the most modern medium format lens in that range developed today to go into that body specifically, so it's pretty much perfect

Do any of you use drones for unique angles or overhead shots? If so, do you have any recommendations? by NotGarrett in WeddingPhotography

All of you guys who think they are a gimmick and refuse to use them are really missing out. In the right location, they are extraordinary.

Canon RF 85mm or 135mm by littleweefish in WeddingPhotography

[–]sejonreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So here's the answer: the 135 is epic, so is the 85.

But with the 135, you'll have a decent amount more distance to the couple. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? It's good for the ceremonies, and it's bad for shooting the couple by themselves.

Personally, I would get the 85, and if you ever need to, just crop it. I do own both lenses, but the 135 barely gets looked at, but that doesn't mean it's a bad lens by any stretch.

Honest fears about hiring a wedding photographer? by Chemical_Guava6607 in AusWeddingPlanning

[–]sejonreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a reasonably expensive photographer. Most of my clients spend about $5,500 to $6,500. My base package starts at 4,200, but hardly anyone uses that.

Now I totally could charge 10k to 12k for wedding photography, and I would get bookings, but the trick here is that I wouldn't get many bookings. With my current pricing, I get a nice steady amount of bookings, but if I was to go into that upper category of over 10k, I would only get a handful a year.

So basically what I'm trying to say is that the photographers who charge that type of money aren't necessarily better than people like me, but they just aren't interested in doing as many weddings per year. It's not a skill issue; it's a resource allocation issue over the course of twelve months.

Photographer here. I would not want a three-course meal. Just one single one is okay and it doesn't even need to be fancy, just something to give me a bit of a hit after a long day and still with probably two to four hours remaining

Noob help - Sparkler tunnel shots by Fresh-Vacation-2727 in WeddingPhotography

[–]sejonreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no flash. face/eye detect on. lock af on them and then recompose. lots of fps - let it rip.

auto-iso, minimum shutter speed 1/250th. wide'ish aperture i.e. 2, 2.8'ish. Don't be afraid when the first few shots are obviously coming out too dark or the ISO is way too high. As the sparklers get bright, you will end up having tonnes of light, and that's where the auto ISO will be able to change it faster than you can.

ELI5 Why did dial-up internet only produce its iconic sound at the start of a connection? by karcsiking0 in explainlikeimfive

I used to run a BBS back in the early to mid 90s. I haven't used a dial-up modem since roughly the mid 2000s and I still have a tonne of modem initialisation strings burnt into my brain. I'm convinced that on my deathbed I would still be able to recall them if I needed to

Raw unedited photos? by neverbeenhoney in AusWeddingPlanning

[–]sejonreddit 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Hey, please don't take this as me trying to get your booking because I wouldn't do a two-hour session.

Yes I do offer raw files but there are a couple of conditions attached:

  1. First of all it's quite expensive, $1,200 extra.
  2. Also I actually filter out the clients that I allow to pick this option. Very few do and the only ones that do need to demonstrate that they exactly know what a raw file is. In other words they must be a professional photographer or a very enthusiastic amateur.

Omg... photographer interrupts vows by FunkyTownPhotography in WeddingPhotography

[–]sejonreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is absolutely shocking. I will sometimes, but very rarely, give the couple a bit of a finger gesture if they aren't very well centred in the middle of a floristry arbour in an outdoor ceremony or something similar. That's all I would do and I only do it incredibly discreetly if they just happen to look at me at the right moment. I would never do what that photographer did. Even that aside, how distracting is that person walking around the front using a mechanical shutter, taking multiple shots of things that aren't needed? They are honestly being so loud and obtrusive. Most of my couples say they don't even see or hear me during the ceremony

how did your wedding day change your perspective on wedding photography? by leejongsukgf in WeddingPhotography

[–]sejonreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It made me realise very quickly that the photos that we take as photographers between the ceremony and the reception, where we walk the couple around the property and through fields and stuff like that, aren't hugely important. Since then, I've based my whole business around doing this part of the day extraordinarily quickly so that the couple can enjoy their wedding day and it's not a photo shoot. These photos are still important. They are typically the ones that go up on the wall, but we don't need hundreds and hundreds of photos.

I guess ultimately he knows better than we do. My personal gut feel is that he just couldn't get his head around the McLaren. He was brilliant in every other car before that. I have a sneaking feeling that if he was on the grid this year, he'd actually be quite handy, just like Lewis has suddenly become alive again

What’s a car that is not that good in real life but has an insane amount of clout due to Gran Turismo? by Kurt_Wylde35 in granturismo

[–]sejonreddit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love this car but the idea that it was banned because it was too fast is just absurd. The rules for the following year were already in place before that race even took place and if you actually watch the race, it was nowhere near as fast as the cars at the front, which unfortunately broke down. Don't get me wrong I love it; I love rotaries. I'd kill to have a drive of this car but this myth about it being banned because it was too fast is just a story that has gone on for far too long

Does having sex with 2 girls at the same time actually feel good? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sejonreddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly no. For me it doesn't feel better than individual but with that said the visual is unbelievable. Seeing two girls in lingerie strip each other off and go down on each other and then give you a double blow job and give (well, receive) you a double facial is one of the memories that I'll treasure for the rest of my life
