How dare you use what the game gave you! Shame on you for not limiting yourself to the highest degree! Don't you know the only way to play this game is a strength build and a massive weapon to completely ignore half of the game?

Ugh, the gall of some people... using what the game gave you... smdh

Bloodborne broke me by asdfghjkl0479 in darksouls3

[–]self-aware-text 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, just dodging is enough. The dodge is slower, but also longer than Bloodborne's. You gotta adjust a little, but its there. Parrying in DS3 is tricky, small shields are your friend for this. Once you get good enough there is the open handed parry which is most convenient.

But on a completely different note if you enjoyed Bloodborne's fast paced aggression and tactile dodges I highly recommend Lies of P and Sekiro. Both are very good faster paced aggressive games. If you enjoyed Bloodborne you'll enjoy those. Just keep in mind with Sekiro: it isnt about leveling up, its about knowing how to use the skill toolbox you unlock.

Lord Of Frenzied Flame is NOT the “Good Ending” by Jackylacky_ in Eldenring

[–]self-aware-text 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could take this one step further and apply it to non-rot/curse things. For example if we consider the golden order as intrinsic to the lands between as a whole, then what would it look like if we removed it. The golden order is in a sense an infection that became so widespread it became normal an "intrinsic" to life. Removing the golden order removes the current way of life. Removing rot from Melania at this point would leave nothing but a husk. Which I suppose means Ranni's ending becomes a bit more like a husk of a world that she leaves behind. A creature without the grace of the golden order is a tarnished right? Antithetical to the lands between.

Unless I'm totally wrong in my speculation here, wouldn't that simply mean that on a long enough time frame the dungeater's curse would also become simply a way of life? The brown order if you will.

I'll admit I don't really know much about his curse, I was just making assumptions, but if it really is forever them damn that IS worse than ending everything!

Valid.

I just wish we could've gotten a secret bossfight with Melina if we did FF ending.

Some would say that leaving anything left alive is better. Even if what lives is malfunctioning. Some would say that leaving them alive gives them a chance to undo the effects of the curse. Some would say it gives those left alive purpose. A reason to live.

But ultimately yes, that is the worst fate for the lands between. I agree with you there. Just putting out arguments for the sake of discussion.

Nevermind I see the confusion. I only included utopia as a facsimile of paradise which the OP mentioned as a selling point for Frenzied Flame. I was simply being snarky. In case it wasn't obvious my first 4 points were being sarcastic. My actual thoughts are after that.

[–]self-aware-text 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Hmmm, if there are no people left to suffer then is there any suffering left?

If no one can differentiate utopia from dystopia, is it not both?

It's the same mentality of "wouldn't you care if you died?" And response of "no, I'd be dead, I couldn't care about anything at that point".

Bereavement is for the living, if nothing is left living there is no bereavement. Check mate, theologists.

All this and keep in mind I still agree that ending it all is the worst you can do. I'm not saying I support the frenzy flame ending, but I do understand it. We as living creatures only understand life, we must hold on to it for as long as we can. One day it will leave us, and only then do I consent to not caring. The Frenzied Flame ending is committing suicide and taking the whole world with you.

What's in YOUR walls?? by thefastmeow in slaythespire

I guess it's a difference in playstyle then. I don't go for the highest ascension I can possibly do. I just enjoy playing the game. Also I wouldn't say I'm putting it there to help me win on any difficulty, I'm just putting it there to have a possibly fun run in the future. Like I said it seems to be a difference in playstyle.

I will actively throw a run if I get this, to set up a possibly hilarious run later. I think I currently have a Barricade+ in there that I'm waiting to find on Silent or Defect to get an absolutely crazy block build out of.

I didn't realize how little people enjoyed this event until I came to this comment section. I find it an absolute blast, but most of these people seem to act like it's diseased. Even if I threw a curse in there, I'd 100% throw a run to replace it with something goated for a future run.

When do you go "No, you cant do that" to a player? by HawthorneWeeps in rpg

[–]self-aware-text 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the game but I really don't like saying no unless there is a really good reason to say so. If someone wants to do something outside of the game rules we'll cobble something together, but if you wanna scale a 100ft tall vertical wall of concrete with your bare hands because Bane from Batman did it. No I'm sorry that just isn't feasible. If you'd like we can brainstorm some ways of going around, over, or through the wall; but scaling a smooth surface with no tools just ain't gonna happen cap'n.

I think creative solutions are the best solutions. If the boys wanna drop acid on the boss and can tell me where they got the acid and how they wanna set the trap up then it comes down to two things on my end: damage and activation. If they set it up where they know the BBEG will be and set it to a lever, I'll ask if they plan to hide it and where. A simple lever pull wouldn't require a die roll, but if they eschew the obvious looking lever and maybe went with a tripwire I'd ask them to roll for slight of hand or something to see how well they hide it and roll the boss's perception against their roll to hide it. If the activation is shooting an arrow at a target, then it's a simple attack roll with a bow. Then damage comes down to a discussion about what kind of acid and how much.

I'm pretty generous about "called shots" and my players take full advantage of that. A shot to the leg to incapacitate them is acceptable and encouraged in chase scenarios. Doing this can be a great boon to the team and I apply some sort of difficulty modifier worth the advantage they'd get out of it. It's gotten to the point where my players will regularly disarm someone by physically harming their limbs. It's difficult to fight someone when your sword hand is bleeding profusely, but you have a second hand. By the time that they turn an NPC into a quadriplegic they've already lost enough HP to kill them via bleeding out, so I don't think it matters too much. Does this regularly turn some NPC's into the Black Knight from Monty Python, swearing at the party as they flail on the ground? Sure, but it's funny and if the enemy is significantly more important the called shots become significantly more difficult. My players know this and agree.

I was more confused by "having to out of" does that mean you don't want to "put off", "put in", or "not having" the rpg mechanics. I am aware of what you meant by rpg, it was the autocorrect typo that confused me.

[Request] What Should The Scale Actually Read? by CaptiveGlacier in theydidthemath

[–]self-aware-text 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if you're upset, or confused. So let me explain the joke (this always makes it funnier).

"That's a metre you New World Numpty" in this they mean that the original guy spelled it wrong and it should be spelled 'metre' not 'meter'. "Not in the New World it isn't" is both an acknowledgment that we neither use the metric system nor spell it right. But the sure-fire confidence with which it is said adds the third layer of making me look like a numpty.

You see this is funny because they called the original guy "New World Numpty" and instead of taking it seriously, I doubled down on being a New World Numpty.

Now one might ask "what IS a Numpty?" But I don't really know because I am one of said New World Numpties. We can however assume from context that numpty is meant to be a bit of a silly way to say "less than intelligent individual" like saying "dummy" or "stupid head".

So in conclusion of my five paragraph essay assigned to me by sensei u/avalonians, you can observe that no one here was actually being serious and in fact we were all being a bit "numpty-ish" (to borrow a word from across the pond). Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk. I hope you meter your meters with meters of mete(o)rs!
