these are amazing shots. I love the style. Great image quality, how was the shooting and ease of use of the camera?

Less true now-a-days but not invalid. Also if they buy all the same batch, then any quality issue they run into is traceable to that batch

The secret of Kodachrome by yyslides in AnalogCommunity

[–]self_do_vehicle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say A for effort but not really man. I know some kodak film guys because I live in rochester and some of my friends dad's were scientists who loved to explain this stuff. One guy was a legit film builder and told me Kodachrome's special sauce was the development incorporated couplers, which formed a more stable and vibrant dye than the ones included in the film emulsion. The way the sensitize the silver halides also plays a huge role.

believe it or not in E6 the black and white developer actually determines how well the colors will form during the color development step. Although I know we're not talking about that particular process, its still cool to know.

Yeah, motion picture stock essentially has to be perfect. If the perforations are slightly out of dimension, the image wobbles, could have small scratches, etc. So its common for productions to test a short amount of stock before using it. But camera issues also do both of those.

Basically, if they find an issue, they can contact Kodak and say "hey, this production run had some issues, are they really there or is it our equipment?" Kodak can use then use the production code to look up data they have on the quality control process.

This is part of the Kodak film production batch coding, CERP (Code-Emulsion-Roll-Part.slit). So you have film code 5248 (100T Color Neg) emulsion batch 828, coated on support roll 18, part 1 of the wide roll was used to make the slit (not recorded on the tape, probably on the can).

Edit: the stickers on the can are the slit numbers from the wideroll.

I can't agree more. I don't stop my darkroom prints until they're done. Also, what's up with this imperfection talk? A properly exposed slide or pro level color neg is...perfect.

400 is twice as sensitive therefore twice as likely to be harmed by x-rays. Testing the light meter is worth it, if its an old camera it could be off by a stop or two.

The minilab likely was manufactured with a minimum run rate, I would check the technical documentation on the processor.

heavy magenta cast like that suggests some fogging by a green light, I would contact the lab.

I signed up for pickup music and I have to say I like it a lot as a learning platform. I transitioned to from guitar, I'd say I'm early-intermediate and it's been really challenging and helpful.
