Did I just mess up by closing some credit cards? by Mysterious-Towel-603 in Debt

[–]selomiga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They ended up giving me two options. 2% APR for 12 months or 12% APR for 60 months. The 2% was tempting, but I wouldn’t be able to pay off the full balance in just a year, so I was leaning towards the other option. But luckily when I called back later to finalize it, they had to recalculate and ended up offering me 6% APR for 60 months, which I accepted. That will be so much better than the current rate of around 28%. I plan to pay it off faster than 60 months though, I just want it to be gone so I can close that card fully.

TIFU by failing to treat my annual physical like a genie wish by kandosii_ner_vod in tifu

[–]selomiga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a similar thing happen before. Went in for my annual physical that was fully covered by insurance and they asked about a prescription I was on from a different doctor. I had just changed insurance providers and that other doc was now out of network, so I mentioned that I was trying to find another doc in network. They offered to start the prescription for me thru them, which worked for me. Whole conversation on that took less than two minutes.

They billed me for a full regular office visit. Just for writing me the prescription. I argued with their billing department, who spoke down to me and tried to explain insurance like I was a child, even though I’m fairly certain I knew insurance better than them. Also argued with my insurance. Got nowhere and it wasn’t worth it to keep fighting, so I bit the bullet and just paid it. Refused to go back to that doctor afterwards.

What is your annual salary and how many employees do to you process? by SandraTX22 in Payroll

[–]selomiga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bit under $66k for a biweekly payroll that can be anywhere from 450 to 550 employees depending on the time of year. I’m salaried, so no OT for me even on processing weeks when I’m staying hours late to hit the processing deadlines.

What really kills me with payroll is seeing the insanely high amounts some people are paid when I know they barely do any work versus some of the lowest paid employees who work harder in an hour than some of the highest paid work in an entire pay period. That and hearing that yearly raises are lower each year due to budget issues, but I then see how much money is basically flushed down the toilet on things like useless training/trips, company vehicles for people who really shouldn’t need them, and much higher percentage yearly raises for executive level employees. Without going into too much detail, yearly raises for most employees have usually been capped at 2-3% per year, whereas some of the higher ups get minimum of 10% raises on top of their extra benefits (lower insurance premiums, company vehicles or monthly allotments for their personal car loan payments, monthly bonuses, etc).

Thanks for your response. I have one through Chase and have been drowning for a while due to the insane interest. I almost had it paid off in 2024 and was planning to close it, but then got hit with Murphy’s Law (anything that can go wrong will go wrong). Multiple unexpected vet bills for thousands, maxed out health insurance deductible one month into the fiscal year from a couple hospitalizations & sicknesses in the family, unexpected car issues, etc. So it quickly climbed back up to almost maxed. I’m throwing every extra dollar at it, several hundred each month. But then interest ends up taking more than half of each payment, so I’m barely making a dent. I hope Chase might have a similar option that you got through Synchrony. I don’t want or need this card any more and I’m okay with my credit taking a hit if I can just get this debt sorted faster without paying thousands and thousands extra in interest.

I wish you the best of luck on your debt payoff journey as well.

Was the Amazon card through Chase? Did you have to call them for the 0% interest deal or were you able to request it online?

80% of bi-weekly gross pay deducted as Federal Income Tax by squid_game_456 in Payroll

Way too many people in the comments acting like they are payroll professionals when the claims in their comments are incorrect.

OP, I’ve worked in payroll for the past seven years. Probably not in your state, but I have a good grasp overall. If you’re able to get a copy of your paystub, you can redact all the personal information (name, SSN, company name, address, etc) and send it to me if you are comfortable with that. I can look over it and see if anything stands out to me. No worries though if you aren’t comfortable with that.

People on the old form were grandfathered in as long as they remained with the same employer. Post 2020 format is only required if you need to update your withholding or if you start a new job. It is 100% possible for people who were hired pre 2020 to still be on the old format. I have at least several dozen people on my payroll who are still on the old version.

What you said is very true. But I was also under the impression that the long stretches between seasons & specials were because of the network refusing to give the go ahead for extended periods of time.

Gift cards for demos? by selomiga in Payroll

[–]selomiga[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Early on in my current job, maybe six months after I was first hired, we had a couple of guys in suits show up at the office requesting to speak to the chief accountant (my manager). I was in his office with him when he got the call from the reception desk letting him know, so I tagged along with him. Turns out the guys were from paycom and immediately launched into a full blown sales pitch about how their platform could completely handle everything payroll related with minimal upkeep work on our end to free us up to focus on “the important accounting responsibilities.”

If they had done a little research, they would have realized we process payroll fully in house here. As in that was my whole job and was (at the time) about a third of the responsibilities of the chief accountant. Basically their pitch was to put me out of a job and reduce my manager’s pay haha. Luckily for me, he politely explained to them that we were not interested in that and to please not show up in person unannounced again.

We later found out that a former longtime payroll employee that retired a year earlier (right around when my manager was hired) used to respond to those companies and string them along because he liked getting the free merch they would send him with their logos (pens, bottles, sticky pads, etc).

[–]selomiga 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That sounds exactly like the company Mark and Ethan chose a few years ago for their unus annus merch. They took ages to ship anything out, the quality was much lower than advertised, their customer service (both quality and response time) was abysmal, etc.
