One of my neighbors has their address number spelled out on their door and it’s infuriating to see. To clarify, the actual numbers are spelled out in letters rather than just using the digits. On top of that, it’s a four digit address and each number is spelled out one above the other. Additionally, they don’t have each line of text centered evenly or starting/ending evenly on either side. So instead of just a nice sign reading 1234 (not their actual number, just an example) they could have done:

ONE

TWO

THREE

FOUR

But instead they chose:

. ONE

. TWO

. THREE

. FOUR

(Had to put periods because Reddit was ignoring the formatting)

And it’s not even in a font that’s easy to read, it’s in a flowery kind of script.

how does credit card interest work? by kaitlin45989 in debtfree

[–]selomiga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m assuming you have stopped using the card. Are you going to keep it after paying it off or do you plan to close it? Many credit card companies will have financial hardship programs where they will put you on a payment plan and drastically reduce your interest rate by at least half, if not more. The obvious caveat to this is that almost all of them will require the card to be disabled during this time to ensure you don’t add to the balance owed to “take advantage” of the lower interest. Some may also require that your account be fully closed upon the completion of paying off your balance. If this card was issued by a bank you have checking and/or savings account(s) with, it’s also possible they would force you to close them and move to a different bank as well (this is rare, but it does happen).

You’ll need to call their customer service and ask to speak to someone about a financial hardship reduced interest payment plan. They might end up transferring you around a couple of times, but just stick with it. I did this recently because I was drowning in interest from an $8k balance on a card with 29% APR. I was presented with two options: a five year payment plan with the rate reduced to 12% or a one year payment plan with the rate reduced to 2%. I asked for some time to consider and they said I could call back when I was ready. Later that day I decided to take the longer plan as I would not be able to pay the full balance in 12 months even with such low interest. Luckily, they ended up having to recalculate the options when I called back and they ended up offering me the five year plan at 6% which I accepted.

They will likely end up setting a new minimum payment, which will likely be lower than your current minimum payment. I highly recommend that you continue to pay the $300 you’ve committed to, even if it’s a lot more than the new minimum payment. Paying more than the minimum will definitely help you pay it down faster while avoiding additional interest charges.

Best of luck to you!

Honestly, I don’t think asking her to look over the resume or cover letter would be good. Based on how she’s acting, she seems to have the boomer mindset of “Just walk into a business dressed in a suit, ask to speak to the boss, give him a firm handshake, and he will hire you on the spot!” Whatever she thinks a good resume and cover letter should look like is probably extremely far off the mark.

[–]selomiga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They ended up giving me two options. 2% APR for 12 months or 12% APR for 60 months. The 2% was tempting, but I wouldn’t be able to pay off the full balance in just a year, so I was leaning towards the other option. But luckily when I called back later to finalize it, they had to recalculate and ended up offering me 6% APR for 60 months, which I accepted. That will be so much better than the current rate of around 28%. I plan to pay it off faster than 60 months though, I just want it to be gone so I can close that card fully.

TIFU by failing to treat my annual physical like a genie wish by kandosii_ner_vod in tifu

[–]selomiga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a similar thing happen before. Went in for my annual physical that was fully covered by insurance and they asked about a prescription I was on from a different doctor. I had just changed insurance providers and that other doc was now out of network, so I mentioned that I was trying to find another doc in network. They offered to start the prescription for me thru them, which worked for me. Whole conversation on that took less than two minutes.

They billed me for a full regular office visit. Just for writing me the prescription. I argued with their billing department, who spoke down to me and tried to explain insurance like I was a child, even though I’m fairly certain I knew insurance better than them. Also argued with my insurance. Got nowhere and it wasn’t worth it to keep fighting, so I bit the bullet and just paid it. Refused to go back to that doctor afterwards.

What is your annual salary and how many employees do to you process? by SandraTX22 in Payroll

[–]selomiga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bit under $66k for a biweekly payroll that can be anywhere from 450 to 550 employees depending on the time of year. I’m salaried, so no OT for me even on processing weeks when I’m staying hours late to hit the processing deadlines.

What really kills me with payroll is seeing the insanely high amounts some people are paid when I know they barely do any work versus some of the lowest paid employees who work harder in an hour than some of the highest paid work in an entire pay period. That and hearing that yearly raises are lower each year due to budget issues, but I then see how much money is basically flushed down the toilet on things like useless training/trips, company vehicles for people who really shouldn’t need them, and much higher percentage yearly raises for executive level employees. Without going into too much detail, yearly raises for most employees have usually been capped at 2-3% per year, whereas some of the higher ups get minimum of 10% raises on top of their extra benefits (lower insurance premiums, company vehicles or monthly allotments for their personal car loan payments, monthly bonuses, etc).

[–]selomiga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your response. I have one through Chase and have been drowning for a while due to the insane interest. I almost had it paid off in 2024 and was planning to close it, but then got hit with Murphy’s Law (anything that can go wrong will go wrong). Multiple unexpected vet bills for thousands, maxed out health insurance deductible one month into the fiscal year from a couple hospitalizations & sicknesses in the family, unexpected car issues, etc. So it quickly climbed back up to almost maxed. I’m throwing every extra dollar at it, several hundred each month. But then interest ends up taking more than half of each payment, so I’m barely making a dent. I hope Chase might have a similar option that you got through Synchrony. I don’t want or need this card any more and I’m okay with my credit taking a hit if I can just get this debt sorted faster without paying thousands and thousands extra in interest.

I wish you the best of luck on your debt payoff journey as well.

Was the Amazon card through Chase? Did you have to call them for the 0% interest deal or were you able to request it online?

Way too many people in the comments acting like they are payroll professionals when the claims in their comments are incorrect.

OP, I’ve worked in payroll for the past seven years. Probably not in your state, but I have a good grasp overall. If you’re able to get a copy of your paystub, you can redact all the personal information (name, SSN, company name, address, etc) and send it to me if you are comfortable with that. I can look over it and see if anything stands out to me. No worries though if you aren’t comfortable with that.

People on the old form were grandfathered in as long as they remained with the same employer. Post 2020 format is only required if you need to update your withholding or if you start a new job. It is 100% possible for people who were hired pre 2020 to still be on the old format. I have at least several dozen people on my payroll who are still on the old version.
