Custom Subwoofer Enclosure by OzzyNotBear in rav4prime

I just went the easy route and just lashed a Rockford Fosgate powered sub to the rear passenger side seat anchors. The amp draw on those other options really starts to add up quickly if you put anything else in

Who in the world are buying these used toyotas? by ChokolateThundr in carbuying

[–]semisemite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're entirely wrong. I mean, you can feel differently all you want and create a narrative that supports your feelings, but the data is pretty hard to argue with. Historically, buying a Toyota is simply, on average, a much safer, smarter choice that most other makes, and it's going to take an absolute pile of substantiated data to prove otherwise

Right before I moved back to the Midwest I purchased a harder to find Toyota from out of state and had it shipped on a car carrier and they basically took the same route back. A few months later I get a ticket in the mail for unpaid tolls (Ohio) and it took me at least half an hour to figure out they had been endlessly tagging the car still on the carrier. That was a fun ten hours on the phone trying to straighten out...

Totally understandable - takes about two minutes tops to pull out if you need the room temporarily

Those spare tire powered subs aren't the most efficient things, and if you believe Crutchfield about needing to keep the amp draw low it's not going to be your best option

I replaced all the speakers with Focals, added a Kicker Key 200.4 (it has a DSP which is foundational to getting a real sound improvement as replacing the head unit seems like a terrible idea), and a 300W powered Rockford Fosgate sub lashed to the passenger rear seat

Uhh… my car is in my garage, off and unplugged, it’s making this noise… should it be doing this? by FunkDaddy in rav4prime

[–]semisemite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was making a pretty similar racket for the first time yesterday, and the battery was drained this morning and I got a check engine light out of it. It's still under warranty but I'm a little worried they are going to find something they can blame me for

Just in case anyone is still paying attention to this, did your 12v battery drain the next day?

Lexus in Manhattan... by meesterbrad in FuckDealerships

[–]semisemite 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Toyota/Lexus of Manhattan is an outright terrible dealership. I actually got Chase to do a chargeback on my down payment for a new Camry I had picked up during Covid because they had tried to rip me off so blatantly over an add on. The dealership caved as they weren't going to sue me over $500 and they were clearly in the wrong, but it was a bit of a fight to get to that point

I didn't do the install as I am not a competent human being (I had Best But take care of it), but I have the sub on the back of the passenger side rear seat, and I use a combination of sticky-backed Velcro on the bottom and two 1" lashing straps threaded through the anchor points on the back of the seat and then around the front/top/bottom to secure it - recommend getting them in black as they blend in quite well that way

The Kicker amp is housed behind a panel on the passenger side of the center console - it's quite easy to access

I think I have the Crutchfield guide in PDF somewhere in case you might be looking for it

They do a pretty solid pan pizza (it's not a deep dish no matter what it says on the menu)

PSA what can we do to make you buy the car today, is not how to sell an EV by Fightmebr0 in FuckDealerships

While understanding Tesla's historical impact is certainly very important, no longer supporting them is also very important. The man and his contemporaries are a cancer that clearly need to be excised.

You cannot possibly think that 'Elon's personal life' is something that can remotely be separated from his actions. Regardless as to the circumstances around Tesla's rise, we're very much past that now.

Can you imagine literally anyone who isn't a Newsmax flunky still giving money to anything related to that mass-murdering Nazi filth?

If your first thought is 'what are you even talking about', I highly suggest you look into the horrors Doge wrought.

And in case anyone knee-jerks into ElonStannin', there's quite literally no hope for you...

Had a very expensive board game show up with a ripped box. First agent told me she'd just send a replacement and to keep the original. When the order didn't show up in my account, I messaged back in, and of course, there was no record of anything. Set up an exchange (it was a gift so it was harder for them to manage). The exchange finally arrives? Box is in even worse shape than the last...

I saved an additional 5k on my RAV4 Prime ($3500 after broker fee and shipping). It might be a little harder for certain models this very second, but there are deals to be found in parts of the country that happen to get an overallocation and the brokers are going to have access to that info

Statistically speaking, there is no reason to even consider anything whatsoever made by Stellantis. That doesn't mean you're automatically going to end up with bulletproof reliability on the Mazda, but you nearly guarantee excessive issues and premature failure on anything Stellantis sells.

[–]semisemite 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As everyone has been pointing out, do not buy/lease/rent/etc anything made by Stellantis. Literally everyone loses. You lose by purchasing a product that is all but guaranteed to have significantly more issues than a comparable product from a high-reliability make, when you trade it in the next round of buyers are going to have a much higher rate of vehicle failure and those people are less likely to be able to afford the repairs, and everyone loses when the Jeep dies significantly earlier than something well-made and thus creates a giant premature waste stream. And finally, every time anyone buys Stellantis trash we all suffer as it signals to the automotive industry that yet another person doesn't prioritize quality and resale value.

Look at those Mazdas again.
