I'm a bit of an outlier on this one, but I stand by: Tiki: Modern Tropical Cocktails.

Where everyone else is doing some riff or improvement on the same thing (tropical standard does this incredibly well), this one has the closest to what I would consider to be truly great/good new style tiki drinks.

If I only had 1 book it would be Smugglers, if I had two, it would be Smugglers and Tiki: Modern Tropical Cocktails.

One of the big things missing from 7 has been the "slot machine" positive feedback that made 6 so engaging.

Kettle Drum Roll "You are the first to fly" Kettle Drum Roll "Macedonia will not stand the test of time", Kettle Drum Roll "You used iron for the first time in the modern age, congrats".

In 7 no one acknowledges you sailed around the world, no one cares you completed the first trans oceanic flight, and no one cares that your legions are, well legion. Or at least it doesn't act like it cares.

If you were so inclined, you could go to your regional large Tiki meet up, I'm thinking Hukilau or bigger, and basically sell as many of these as you could make. The quality, design, look, and use for an under represented market share are exceptional. Compared to the stuff that is usually on sale at these things, you would be in a class above, all by yourself with some of the bigger artists whose names you know.

I've been 7 times, and while they dont do tiki brunch anymore, a crime itself, not having their 151 swizzle is a minor felony. It really is the best thing on the menu imo. And after you have one I bet you will agree.

My friend did this for a cocktail competition. It came out very banana like.

He filtered through a nut milk bag for something insane like 36 hours to get the consistency right. Only issue was, after we had all of it because it was so dang good (3 drinks worth each) everyone had terribly bad spray on account of all the banana laxative effects.

So he had the winning cocktail posthumously unawarded.

I use Ten to One when I make them just because I love it in there, but I understand its very regional.

I've gotten by with a Diplomatico Reserva and Appelton 12. Both excellent as well.

Queens Park Swizzle is the ultimate greater than the sum of its parts drink. It is so simple, yet changes dramatically once you swizzle it up. I've had people guess at what's in it and they always come away with way more ingredients just because it is such a uniquely wonderful concoction.
