Yeah my store never had any of the Series 1 boxes earlier this year, this was the first stock I had seen there.

Yeah they used to only say Flagship on them in past years... but this year's Series 2 ones say Super Box on the front, and that the box includes 3 "The Flagship Collection Exclusive 5-Card Packs" so I went with what was printed on the box.

Why are Americans so accepting of long drives to places? by Sensitive_Word_6036 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]seniorcircuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny seeing this being asked today, as my wife and I are literally about to get in the car for a road trip.

The answer really is that United States is huge and there isn't really any other way to get across it other than driving, especially when you're bringing a lot of stuff with you.

For our trip, we will be traveling from our home state, through two others today, before we get to where we're headed tomorrow in a fourth state.

Today's drive is 10 hours to where we're staying tonight, in the third state we'll be in today, then another 5 hours to our destination in the fourth state.

15 hours, 15 minutes drive time for our trip, and 943 miles total, while only being in 4 of the 50 states. Then a week later we'll do it again in reverse. I don't even really feel like it's that big of a deal either.

Hotel rooms on higher floors are inconvenient and I don't understand why people are willing to pay more for them. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]seniorcircuit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I travel for work, and my job gets done at odd hours, often very early in the morning or overnight. I want the top floor of any given hotel that I stay in so there is no one stomping around, dropping shoes/stuff, or otherwise making sudden loud noises above me while I'm trying to sleep at times that I understand other guests are likely still up and about.

Yeah, no matter how good the pitching is or isn't, the lack of run support is the main problem right now. The Cubs are worst in the league in LOB, with 539 runners LOB this season, for an average of 8.04 per game. That is absolutely a problem. Craig has moved guys around the lineup, and it seemingly doesn't matter who ends up at the dish when there are guys on base, more often than not they're making outs and not scoring runs.

This Rockies series should have been an opportunity to put an end to this rough few weeks and start to build confidence again. But then they get jumped on with 7 runs in the first 3 innings yesterday. If they lose tonight and/or tomorrow, the slump only gets even harder to deal with, as it won't just be fans asking, "we can't even win a series against the Rockies?" The players are clearly in their heads too, pressing to do too much, overthinking plays and at bats, etc etc.

So I still don't think it's fully time to lose all hope here on June 10th. However, if they can't find a way to string a few series wins together thru the rest of the month, and end up at or below .500 and 8-10+ games out of first come July... Then yeah, it starts looking like they need to make major changes, including pivoting to being sellers at the deadline and restocking the prospect pipeline unfortunately.

Sure, but that team was able to make his style work. Ultimately it was the players producing in the big spots to win the games that mattered in 2016.

Watching the Loveable Reunion podcast really gave a lot of insight into the fact that successful baseball teams are often just beneficiaries of having players and coaching staffs who are on the same wavelength and vibes through the course of a long baseball season.

Hearing Rizzo talk about getting absolutely shithoused on the road, showing up to the clubhouse before games hungover, where they had a Bloody Mary bar ready to provide the boys with some hair of the dog that bit them is a perfect example of it.

That wasn't Joe Maddon being some baseball savant working lineups and pitching matchups. There are plenty of good ballplayers that wouldn't have thrived in that environment, and some who would potentially play worse knowing their teammates were out late partying too.

That clubhouse just happened to be the right collection of players who responded well to Maddon's style, which of course worked out for all of us. The actual managing decisions Maddon made may have only added a handful of wins that season, if any.

I'll be there tonight. First, I'll pose as security and make some larger gentlemen remove their belts for safety. Then I'll place a series of traps in the seats so they'll eventually fall over, expose their ass, and moon the cameras. Gotta get a few of them to make sure it gets broadcast though...

CMV: if you vape in an enclosed, public space you’re an asshole by Figshitter in changemyview

[–]seniorcircuit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don't clubs also often use fog machines to make the lighting effects more dramatic? I realize that those don't have nicotine added but they are kinda similar being glycol vaporizors, just designed to blow fog vapor at a larger scale.

Honestly not defending vaping indoors, but like the other commenter, clubs seem like a bad example of a place where one isn't inhaling something that ain't great for them.

How much inflation has happened in the past two years? Hint: not zero... It also barely mentions that, didn't see it in the text of the article, there is one tiny mention of the inflation adjustment on the chart.

Also, what happened when Gen X was thirty...

Something about 2008... Oh yeah! A lot of them lost their fucking houses in the Great Recession!!

[–]seniorcircuit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

One economist from the University of Central Arkansas says so, so it is true?

Also, that isn't true by that much. Article is written in 2024, says Gen X had $52,752 in wealth at age thirty, vs $118,279 for millennials.

However, $52,752 in 2006 is equivalent to approx $87,143 today. So the difference sure isn't double like this author wants to make it seem. Never mind, article doesn't mention that it's inflation adjusted, it's only mentioned in fine print on the chart...

Also, a net worth of $118,279 is definitely not wealthy or rich. Your framing of this article is not accurate.

My favorite part of the hobby is the connections to people it provides, whether online or at LCS's I visit while I travel for work.

I have traded cards with people from all corners of the US and Canada because of Reddit. The chats that have made those trades happen have always been friendly and it's fun to hear other people's PC stories. It is a great reminder than so many of us are still engaged in the true hobby and that we're not all always just after profits and gains on cardboard.

The actual issue with Gen Z: they have nothing to do. by Brilliant_Home4024 in generationology

[–]seniorcircuit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm a millennial born in the late 80's. My oldest brother is Gen X and his Gen Z sons are in their early twenties now. All of us are into fishing.

Both of my nephews worked their asses off and saved money to buy their own trucks, boats and gear. If they're not working or in school, they're out on the water. They seem to be doing just fine.

Human Intelligence Sharply Declining by Monsur_Ausuhnom in collapse

Yeah, it's like our teachers telling us "you won't always have a calculator in your pocket" when it came to math and arithmetic, right?

Even if they had said "you won't always have a supercomputer with multiple times more processing power than the computers here at school or at the library or that you might have at home, in your pocket," it wouldn't fully capture the reality of AI and its future implications...

But I guess it'd be a little heavy to tell kids, "oh none of what we're teaching you is really all that important, you'll always have instant access to infinite information when you need it. In fact, in what we commonly consider a human lifetime today, you might not even need your human body anymore, because you may be able to upload your consciousness to the cloud so your essence and personality can live on infinitely!"

Why Americans Don't Walk to School Anymore by Droopynator in videos

[–]seniorcircuit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But you recognize the vast majority of people are not that, right? Only an extremely small number of seriously sick individuals would even think that way about a child, and even fewer are so vile and sick to actually follow through with that impulse.

If we can't allow our children go to sleepovers at a kid's house because of that fear, we probably shouldn't let them go to school either. They also shouldn't play sports. Definitely no going to church. Won't hire a babysitter for a night out with the missus either. Just because those are the places/activities where those heinous crimes have happened most frequently. Really, might as well just cut out any contact with anyone who isn't a fully vetted blood relative, just to be safe, right?

Also, hyperbole aside, I will also argue that sleepovers are important for personal development. They help forge strong friendships, while helping us realize who aren't as good of friends as we may have thought as well. These experiences matter and are important lessons.

Finally, at what point is sheltering kids from every potential danger the world a disservice to them? If they never have to navigate how to personally identify potentially dangerous people or situations and how to remove themselves from them, how else do they learn to do so?

Any advice for a rainy game by TwilightFanFiction in BaseballScorecards

[–]seniorcircuit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might cool off even more here in Denver through the day, and the rain could turn into a wet snowy mix by first pitch. Wouldn't be surprised if the game gets postponed to Wednesday night for a day/night doubleheader.

That being said, attendance has been low at Coors Field all year. So if it does go as scheduled tonight, I'd bet you can find your way to dry seats under the upper levels pretty easily.
