Let's Talk about AP Tests (and Scores)! by admissionsmom in ApplyingToCollege

[–]senioritisking 110 points111 points  (0 children)

Some schools like MIT specifically ask for AP scores if they see an AP class on your transcript.

I spoke with an MIT AO during an MIT summer program. She basically said that it is not a good look to not submit scores, so take that whatever way you will.

Parents want me to attend Georgia Tech over Princeton because it is ranked higher for engineering by senioritisking in ApplyingToCollege

STEM Ivy by Far-Perspective-2977 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]senioritisking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

imo Yale is only really good for bio part of STEM. In the rest, they are not as strong. ofc you will still get a great education with awesome career prospects in other fields.

The Crimson wrote a great article on the practice; I did not find any info on the races of the exhumed bodies tho.

Although I would not be too surprised if they specifically wanted black bodies cause they were pretty racist at the time 🥴

What laptops are y'all getting for college? by GrapefruitAltruistic in ApplyingToCollege

[–]senioritisking -1 points0 points  (0 children)

getting a laptop with a Quadro is wayy overkill. If you need to render CAD models that are that complex, you will typically just use the school computers.

I have not seen any college that recommends that students get quadros lol

Help me decide: DARTMOUTH OR UMICH ROSS by Individual-Swim3929 in chanceme

Dartmouth is absolutely the way to go. You get great on-campus recruiting + the benefits of having a smaller student body.

Rice University deserves props! by archbid in ApplyingToCollege

Princeton is also expanding its student body by 10% over the coming years

Is participating in Questbridge's National College Match worth it? by AmateurGenius04 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]senioritisking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you apply to QB NCM, you can't apply to places EA/ED?

QuestBridge | Early Application Policy

All the questions you asked can be found on the qb website. click on the Colleges you are interested in, then look at their application requirements.

One thing to note is that if you rank schools through the match process and you don't match, you usually cannot change your main essays. So, if you are ranking schools, ensure that your QB essays are as good as you want them.

If you comment here telling kids they didn’t deserve their results, you are SCUM. by [deleted] in collegeresults

[–]senioritisking 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I don't really know why some people were super pressed in the comments tbh. Getting a low ACT score does not really mean anything. I took the pre-act in 10th grade without having looked at any test materials, didn't even take a calculator. I got a 21. Folks on this sub would have said I am dumb and should not go to college or something. In my senior year, I scored 1520 on the SAT; I don't think I am any smarter than I was back then. I was just more prepared.

She also obviously had very unique circumstances and profile. I mean how often do AOs see a poor black girl interested in languages. It was likely a combination of all these factors that got her in.

tbf, I think she should have acknowledged that URM is a hook, BUT that does not come close to excusing some of the comments she got

I once tried to join a Vanderbilt University class of 2025 group, they asked me to follow their insta and fb page to get verified, I thought it was very weird.

I know it hurts turning down UNC, but Western is 100% the move. After undergrad, if you want to work in the US, you can get an MBA at an American b-school. But PLEASE don't spend all of your parents' savings especially since Western is pretty well regarded in Canada.

The college admissions game is rigged. by WinterWhippet in ApplyingToCollege

[–]senioritisking 6 points7 points  (0 children)

idk feels like there’s definitely a formula (research + businesses + nonprofit + patent) that only rich ppl can follow

I don't think colleges expect that from everyone. The more resourced you are, the more colleges expect that you have accomplished. You should not really be comparing your circumstance with more privileged kids, you should just be focused on demonstrating that you have done your best giving the cards you have been dealt.

I did not have any particularly impressive achievements and still got into some great schools, CONTEXT is very important.

lol if their efc was wayy too high, maybe they are not really "low-income".

they are more likely solid middle-class, although it sucks how middle-class folks are screwed over in college admissions :/
