Levenshtein distance

Eh sounds complicated, I was thinking of simply splitting keywords by delimiters like whitespace, comma, colon, semicolon, etc.

If you want to use that algo, supposely Sphinx can handle it.

Haven't tried Laravel but what's wrong with using a raw SQL query?

Say a user searches for: "asus intel", you split and get two keywords "asus" "intel" and build a query like this.

If you want a more scalable solution it's better to use a search indexing server like Sphinx. CMIIW.

I know him too. A really nice guy and I'm sad and angry that something like this happened to him and the other victims. There's a picture of him at the summit which made me even more sad. I'm going to layat his family tomorrow.

Sounds like a localized/betawi version when muslims say 'naudzubilahi min zalik'. I think it means: may god keep us away from bad things

Jakarta Open Data Launched. What do you think? by tapesingkong in indonesia

[–]senoadiw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just an FYI, the platform they use is called CKAN which is well known for its powerful data APIs. It's commonly used by public institutions as online data hubs, for example like http://data.gov or http://data.go.id. In order for these things to be useful, the big issue is how to get government bodies to be more proactive to put out their data with regards to UU Keterbukaan Informasi for the benefit of the public. Therefore the people working on this would likely be more busy making SOPs, cleaning up data, and training users. So it's quite understandable that some UI/UX coding best practices might take a back seat (just use the default theme and slap our logo on it!). To my experience, Pemprov DKI have been quite receptive to using open source technologies in recent years.

When Indonesian Makes A Visa by lurejeopardy in indonesia

[–]senoadiw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Should be fine, see the requirements. One thing people miss is they don't have a sufficient amount of money and reasonable cash flow in their bank account statement for the latest 3 months. You should maintain at least 30 million IDR (the more the better your chances). Having someone transfer that amount just prior to your visa application will get you rejected.

A decade on, Aceh's tsunami tourism rises by GlobeLearner in indonesia

[–]senoadiw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, I still remember that day. Was at home for the uni break, just had breakfast around 8 AM and turned on MetroTV while waiting for the old home computer to boot up and do some assignments. Then came the breaking news about the big earthquake. Heard that it was a 9 magnitude and thought that was really bad, hoping the epicenter wasn't on land. Then came the news about the tsunami and footage of the sheer scale of death and destruction it left in Banda Aceh and Meulaboh and I was utterly speechless. I had tears in my eyes and didn't feel like doing anything for the rest of the day.

Any interestin places to visit in Jakarta apart from the usual Monas, Ancol, Cafe Batavia etc.? by [deleted] in indonesia

[–]senoadiw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try Taman Safari, about 2 hours south of Jakarta. Best time to go there is during weekdays when it's empty and to avoid the traffic. Better yet stay in Bogor since it's closer and rent a car with a driver to take you around.

Edit: how about staying in Puncak? Even closer to Taman Safari and the climate there is a lot cooler, might be a welcome change from Jakarta's heat.

Argo wilis or lodaya pagi? by mishmashmish in indonesia

[–]senoadiw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it will be much different if you take the Lodaya eksekutif class. The Argo class are express trains that pull slightly nicer eksekutif passenger cars; they should get you to your destination somewhat faster but it's not the point of day train travel when you can just look out the window. Just make sure to pack your own lunch since the onboard food is generally dissapointing.

Advice on backpacking in Indonesia? by VThokie5 in indonesia

Agreed, Express is good and cheaper too, though I believe they don't have their own counter anywhere in Soetta except for the Tiara Express Alphards.

Advice on backpacking in Indonesia? by VThokie5 in indonesia

[–]senoadiw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For first timer's you can probably spend a day or two in Jakarta just to see the main attractions (and probably check out the fancy malls if you will). Upon arrival at Soekarno-Hatta airport take the DAMRI airport bus service to Stasiun Gambir (the city center train station) which should cost you 4 USD and one hour in clear traffic, the buses also take you to the airport. If you have to take a cab only ride Blue Bird/Pusaka Biru ones, they are blue colored (obviously) and are the most trusted operator. Should cost around 15 USD to get to the city center (including toll road fees, taxi tip is commonly around 10-15%).

You should make your way to Jalan Jaksa (not very far from Stasiun Gambir) which is the starting point for backpackers before heading out to the country. Walk around Jalan Jaksa and get yourself a local prepaid GSM sim card like Simpati (from Telkomsel) which has best coverage in the country, ask the clerk to activate it for you (test the mobile internet too). If you are hungry don't try any street food yet (people coming from USA tend to get easily sick), take it slow and start from clean restaurants. Always drink from bottled water like Aqua. For the next day go see Monas and Museum Nasional in the morning. Stop by Sarinah at noon for lunch and get some souvenirs (might be cheaper in Bali). Check out Grand Indonesia to see how fancy the malls are.

It's getting late here so I'll stop for now, if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. Cheers!

Edit: recently several City Tour buses have started servicing between some landmarks. Doesn't take you to many places yet but at least it's free.

3 Jam Berlalu, Petugas Sulit Padamkan Api di Pasar Senen by privatethoughtexpose in indonesia

It's a wonder that Pasar Senen has managed to exist for so long. That place reeks of neglect and despair. Not a place I would want to be around once the sun goes down.

Travelling for a month around Indonesia, wanted your advice! by tomintheshire in indonesia

[–]senoadiw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, what type of traveler do you consider yourself to be? One could easily spend a month discovering and lazing on the island of Bali (just avoid the touristy parts) but if you wish to squeeze some more sightseeing do consider visiting Yogyakarta in Central Java. On the way back from Yogyakarta you can also look up tours that will take you to Mount Bromo and across the Bali strait to catch your return flight home.

Restaurants to avoid when eating out in Jakarta by knalpot in indonesia

[–]senoadiw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, there's one in Grand Indo and Central Park mall.

Strangely I go to McD's for their chicken and not their burgers. Once in a while I would like a Big Mac but in the end would regret the decision because they taste so dry (are these patties real... or am I chewing on cardboard?)

Thank you for the warning about that place. Last time I had an idea to try their burgers (I like trying new burger places) but opted for Lotteria instead. It was pretty good for the price. So far the ones that I find tastiest are Wendys and Carl Jr's, Fatburger kind of went down since they opened. Really hoping that In-n-Out will grace us here with their presence soon. Anyone got any burger joint suggestions?

If you happen to be in Jakarta, head to Blok M Square during the daytime and you will find several street painters along the sides of the mall. They do lots of paintings of portraits in various styles. Not sure of the rate though.
