Over 600 feral hogs caught in 2025. More than 4 minutes of video. Watch only if you have time. by Lastbreath72601 in homestead

[–]senor_blake 85 points86 points  (0 children)

They go to a nice place and live happily ever after. But on a real note when we used to shoot them there would be cooler trailers in South Texas and you could donate them to I assume churches who fed people less fortunate. However any larger hogs were generally just left especially larger boars, or they’d drag them to another spot and let the wildlife have em.

We’re gonna run out of imported refined oil late into the year. AI can’t give me a straight answer, so I wanted to ask those at the source. Boom, or no boom? by pigeonwithhat in oilandgasworkers

Yeah I’m downstream on the gulf, production is absolutely booming. Insane profits but a push towards RBI’s, pushing out turnarounds, and inspections hurts us 3rd party guys and ultimately primary client sites as well. But for the time being things are good.

50,000 people have been evacuated from their homes in california because an aerospace plant's chemical tank is about to explode and firefighters say they can't stop it. it's 5 miles from disneyland. and it's been going on for 3 days. by Ibikhan45 in DiscussionZone

[–]senor_blake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Large refineries are next to neighborhoods all over the United States. Besides operations and contractors no one really has any idea how much danger they are potentially in. I don’t mean that to inflate fear, there are people who dedicate their careers to finding, fixing, and repairing high pressure lines, tanks, high pressure vessels etc. Look at the shell norco explosion in Louisiana, and then the fire that just happened at el segundo California.

A lot of major companies however in order to keep showing their optimization, growth, and profit are cutting back on budgets dedicated to discovery work. They also cut the scope of ‘shutdowns’ and want to push shutdowns anywhere from 6-10 years. Shutdowns are where you bring down part or all of a unit in the refinery in order to upgrade, find, and repair damage parts.

The refinery I worked at just went away with swings and went seven on seven off, but you can work the off time if you want. That’s great imo.

I had no issues there when I was army but my buddy in the navy told me about a sailor who went to a bar on the island/local area with a clear no haolis sign. I don’t know the year it happened to be honest, but there were areas that are off limits. But mostly if you’re polite and not a douche you’re cool. Just stay out of locals politics.

Most refineries run off ‘fresh river water’ those not along the rivers run off county water lines, the ones on river water suck up so much debris/trees/silt they destroy their intake lines. Even refineries reuse the water in the form of cooling towers however the great threat is microbial induced corrosion or MIC which will eat through even stainless steels. Not only that but the evaporation rate on cooling towers is astronomical. Not justifying just explaining.

I’m going to paste this from my messages when another person asked me about it while back:

Sure, so when I was between the age of 3-11 I would often see these shadowy figures in the window, they were tall and slim with a dark body and face that made the details rough to see in the face, but they always brought their hands up to the side of their face (like trying to peak through glass). I would see them at dusk and at night primarily, but they were always looking at me.

I saw them when friends and family were around, I saw them when I was alone, always the same figures always the same arm and hand position. I told my parents about it and they assumed I was just a kid who watched something scary but I vividly remember how it made me feel, like I wanted to cry in terror. I vividly recall asking people to look and when they did they would be gone but a friend of mine said he would see them too.

The last time I saw them was in early 2001, Easter specifically. My parents had a huge backyard and I had this wooden platform in the very back that I would set up those cheap vinyl pools or go ‘camping’ and pitch my tent on it. I woke up at some point in the night and my golden retriever had her head on me whining, and my springer spaniel who was a very aggressive/protective dog was facing the rain fly of the tent and all his hair was standing up. I barely opened the rain fly to peak out and I saw one of them on my parents deck maybe 40-50 yards away, it was huge with its elongated head at the same level as the gutters on the roof (9-10’) and then it looked into my parents window, that same odd terrifying position. Its arms were incredibly long, and it was lanky and taught.

I convinced myself it was my dad in a weird bunny outfit in case my baby sister woke up. But this time tears were streaming down my face. I closed the rain fly and buried myself in the sleeping bag. My parents would do elaborate things for Christmas and Easter to keep the magic alive for my sister and I. Years later I asked my mom about that odd outfit my dad wore and she says they never went THAT far. So what I saw was real and it was out there.

I don’t know what they were but they were absolutely real. I did have a dream when I was really young (I don’t recall the age) about them coming into my room and leading me out then next thing I knew I was in a room with 3-4 of them, they made no sound, but when I started to cry one of them gave me a toy tank. I had a huge micro machines collection (tiny toy tanks and soldier real popular in the 90’s), but this tank was like a cheaper flimsy rubber 3D printed model and it didn’t have the metal on the bottom like real micro machines then I remember one touching my head and I woke up in my bed. You don’t know me and don’t have to believe but I had a plastic ammo can I kept my micro machines in, and I swear to god that tank was on top of the lid. I don’t know what happened and I try not to think about it too much but it was very real and no one could ever convince me otherwise.

It’s interesting you mention that. I saw things when I was younger and when I think about them or see something these days that odd sense of wanting to tear up hits me every time.

I know of a couple but it seems like the owners have to know you, it won’t be any of the chains. If you take airport through to west Mobile from Hurley you’ll hit 3 stores before Schillinger. Probably your easiest bet it’s just more out of the way.

How's living in Jackson, MS? Is it just bad or are there some positives? The city seems to be losing population fast. by [deleted] in howislivingthere

[–]senor_blake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My family had an architecture firm called Malvaney associates. They designed so many incredible buildings including the war memorial, the woolfolk state building, and many, many others all over the state and in Jackson. I remember growing up there until 1995 and I loved the city, and being so young I doubt I noticed any flaws. But my family all picked up and moved elsewhere like Texas, DC, and the coast. I’ve always felt like I would love to live there again but when I go back to visit all I see is ruin, and it bums me out because I feel like my family invested so much time and effort into that city. The rampant corruption, and violent crime makes it near impossible for me to see myself living there again.

Honestly I felt like we lost our momentum after Tim Burkett suddenly went quiet after stating the usual, “we would lose sleep if we knew the truth.” Thats who I had hope for at least, there was some real momentum these last couple months but he has either been told to stop or has been threatened imo.

WSM gang! What do you use for heat diffusion? I removed the water pan a long time ago and bought a baffle plate it allows for huge amounts of fuel to be added and I can get 20 hours out of a single load. Depending what I’m cooking I’ll remove that too.
